Four-fifths laws in incompressible and magnetized fluids: Helicity, Energy and Cross-helicity

In this paper, we are concerned with the Kolmogorov's scaling laws of conserved quantities. By means of Eyink's longitudinal structure functions and the analysis of interaction of different physical quantities, we extend celebrated four-fifths laws from energy to helicity in incompressible fluid and, energy and cross-helicity in magnetohydrodynamic flow. In contrast to pervious 4/5 laws of energy and cross-helicity in magnetized fluids obtained by Politano and Pouquet, they are in terms of the mixed three-order structure functions rather than the structure coupling correlation functions.

Kinetic Helicity in the Earth's atmosphere

An overview is given of the helicity of the velocity field (``kinetic'' helicity to distinguish it from the ``magnetic'' helicity used in magnetohydrodynamics, astrophysics, and solar physics; or simply \emph{helicity} in this Chapter) and of the role, which this concept plays in the modern research in atmospheric physics and atmospheric turbulence. General information on helicity is presented including some historical comments and a brief description of the fundamental role that helicity plays in fluid dynamics. Different applications of the helicity concept are discussed to the analysis of various dynamic atmospheric processes, including applications to intense atmospheric vortices, such as tropical cyclones, tornadoes and dust devils, and also to Ekman boundary layer dynamics. Emphasized are helicity balance conditions and the important role that helicity fluxes play in their maintenance. Fundamentals of helical turbulence theory are briefly discussed, and then emphasis is placed on the helical properties of atmospheric turbulence within the atmospheric boundary layer. In particular, the pioneering effort of the research team from the Obukhov Institute of Atmospheric Physics (Moscow) to measure turbulent helicity in natural atmospheric conditions is described.

Four-thirds law of energy and magnetic helicity in electron and Hall magnetohydrodynamic fluids

In this paper, by exploiting the feature of the Hall term, we establish some local version four-thirds laws for the dissipation rates of energy and magnetic helicity in both electron and Hall magnetohydrodynamic equations in the sense of Duchon-Robert type. New 4/3 laws for the dissipation rates of magnetic helicity in these systems are first observed and four-thirds law involving the dissipation rates of energy for the Hall magnetohydrodynamic equations generalizes the work of Galtier.

On triple correlations in isotropic electron magnetohydrodynamic turbulence

The evolution of the correlation characteristics in three-dimensional isotropic electron magnetohydrodynamic turbulence is investigated. Universal exact relations between the longitudinal and transverse two-point triple correlations of the components of the fluctuational magnetic fields and the rates of dissipation of the magnetic helicity and energy are obtained in the inertial range.

On the triple correlations in helical turbulence

The evolution of correlation characteristics in homogeneous helical turbulence is considered. Additional K'arm'an-Howarth type equations, describing the evolution of the mixed correlation tensor of the velocity and vorticity are obtained. In the helical scaling region, the solution of obtained equation gives the exact relation between antisymmetric component of a rank-three tensor and the average dissipation of helicity. This relation is a helical analogue of Kolmogorov's known 4/5 law.
