Kundt solutions of Minimal Massive 3D Gravity

We construct Kundt solutions of Minimal Massive Gravity theory and show that, similar to Topologically Massive Gravity (TMG), most of them are constant scalar invariant (CSI) spacetimes, that correspond to deformations of round and warped (A)dS. We also find an explicit non-CSI Kundt solution at the merger point. Finally, we give their algebraic classification with respect to the traceless Ricci tensor (Segre classification) and show that their Segre-types match with the types of their counterparts in TMG.

All timelike supersymmetric solutions of three-dimensional half-maximal supergravity

We first classify all supersymmetric solutions of the 3-dimensional half-maximal ungauged supergravity that possess a timelike Killing vector coming from the Killing spinor bilinear by considering their identification under the complexification of the local symmetry of the theory. It is found that only solutions that preserve $16/2^n, 1 \leq n \leq 3$ real supersymmetries are allowed. We then classify supersymmetric solutions under the real local symmetry of the theory and we are able to solve the equations of motion for all of them. It is shown that all such solutions can be expressed as a direct sum of solutions of the integrable Liouville and SU(3) Toda systems. This completes the construction of all supersymmetric solutions of the model since the null case has already been solved.

A supersymmetric reduction on the three-sphere

We present the embedding of three-dimensional SO(4)$\ltimes\mathbb{R}^6$ gauged $N=4$ supergravity with quaternionic target space SO(4,4)$/$(SO(4)$\times$SO(4)) into $D=6$, $N=(1,0)$ supergravity coupled to a single chiral tensor multiplet through a consistent reduction on AdS$_3\times S^3$.

Stationary Lifshitz black holes of R^2-corrected gravity theory

In this short note, I present a generalization of a set of static D-dimensional (D >= 3) Lifshitz black holes, which are solutions of the gravitational model obtained by amending the cosmological Einstein theory with the addition of only the curvature-scalar-squared term and that are described by two parameters, to a more general class of exact, analytic solutions that involves an additional parameter which now renders them stationary. In the special D=3 and the dynamical exponent z=1 case, the parameters can be adjusted so that the solution becomes identical to the celebrated BTZ black hole metric.

On the thermodynamics of Lifshitz black holes

We apply the recently extended conserved Killing charge definition of Abbott-Deser-Tekin formalism to compute, for the first time, the energies of analytic Lifshitz black holes in higher dimensions. We then calculate the temperature and the entropy of this large family of solutions, and study and discuss the first law of black hole thermodynamics. Along the way we also identify the possible critical points of the relevant quadratic curvature gravity theories. Separately, we also apply the generalized Killing charge definition to compute the energy and the angular momentum of the warped AdS_3 black hole solution of the three-dimensional New Massive Gravity theory.

Conserved Killing charges of quadratic curvature gravity theories in arbitrary backgrounds

We extend the Abbott-Deser-Tekin procedure of defining conserved quantities of asymptotically constant-curvature spacetimes, and give an analogous expression for the conserved charges of geometries that are solutions of quadratic curvature gravity models in generic D-dimensions and that have arbitrary asymptotes possessing at least one Killing isometry. We show that the resulting charge expression correctly reduces to its counterpart when the background is taken to be a space of constant curvature and, moreover, is background gauge invariant. As applications, we compute and comment on the energies of two specific examples: the three dimensional Lifshitz black hole and a five dimensional companion of the first, whose energy has never been calculated beforehand.

On The Supersymmetric Solutions of D=3 Half-maximal Supergravities

We initiate a systematic study of the solutions of three-dimensional matter-coupled half-maximal (N=8) supergravities which admit a Killing spinor. To this end we analyze in detail the invariant tensors built from spinor bilinears, a technique originally developed and applied in higher dimensions. This reveals an intriguing interplay with the scalar target space geometry SO(8,n)/(SO(8) x SO(n)). Another interesting feature of the three-dimensional case is the implementation of the duality between vector and scalar fields in this framework. For the ungauged theory with timelike Killing vector, we explicitly determine the scalar current and show that its integrability relation reduces to a covariant holomorphicity equation, for which we present a number of explicit solutions. For the case of a null Killing vector, we give the most general solution which is of pp-wave type.

Self-dual solutions of Yang-Mills theory on Euclidean AdS space

We find non-trivial, time-dependent solutions of the (anti) self-dual Yang-Mills equations in the four dimensional Euclidean Anti-de Sitter space. In contrast to the Euclidean flat space, the action depends on the moduli parameters and the charge can take any non-integer value.

Comment on the new AdS universe

We show that Bonnor's new Anti-de Sitter (AdS) universe and its D-dimensional generalization is the previously studied AdS soliton.

Finite mass gravitating Yang monopoles

We show that gravity cures the infra-red divergence of the Yang monopole when a proper definition of conserved quantities in curved backgrounds is used, i.e. the gravitating Yang monopole in cosmological Einstein theory has a finite mass in generic even dimensions (including time). In addition, we find exact Yang-monopole type solutions in the cosmological Einstein-Gauss-Bonnet-Yang-Mills theory and briefly discuss their properties.

Cotton flow

Using the conformally invariant Cotton tensor, we define a geometric flow, the "Cotton flow", which is exclusive to three dimensions. This flow tends to evolve the initial metrics into conformally flat ones, and is somewhat orthogonal to the Yamabe flow, the latter being a flow within a conformal class. We define an entropy functional, and study the flow of nine homogeneous spaces both numerically and analytically. In particular, we show that the arbitrarily deformed homogeneous 3-sphere flows into the round 3-sphere. Two of the nine homogeneous geometries, which are degenerated by the Ricci flow, are left intact by the Cotton flow.

Another proof of the positive energy theorem in gravity

We show that gravitational energy expression simplifies when a new set of coordinates that satisfies a certain asymptotic gauge condition is used. Compared to the ADM formula, positivity of the energy is more transparent in this new construction. Our proof relies on the asymptotic symmetries (specifically supertranslations) of the asymptotically flat spacetimes at spatial infinity in four dimensions.

Gravitational charges of transverse asymptotically AdS spacetimes

Using Killing-Yano symmetries, we construct conserved charges of spacetimes that asymptotically approach to the flat or Anti-de Sitter spaces only in certain directions. In D dimensions, this allows one to define gravitational charges (such as mass and angular momenta densities) of p-dimensional branes/solitons or any other extended objects that curve the transverse space into an asymptotically flat or AdS one. Our construction answers the question of what kind of charges the antisymmetric Killing-Yano tensors lead to.

Topologically massive gravity as a Pais-Uhlenbeck oscillator

We give a detailed account of the free field spectrum and the Newtonian limit of the linearized "massive" (Pauli-Fierz), "topologically massive" (Einstein-Hilbert-Chern-Simons) gravity in 2+1 dimensions about a Minkowski spacetime. For a certain ratio of the parameters, the linearized free theory is Jordan-diagonalizable and reduces to a degenerate "Pais-Uhlenbeck" oscillator which, despite being a higher derivative theory, is ghost-free.

New Supersymmetric Solutions in N=2 Matter Coupled AdS_3 Supergravities

We construct new 1/2 supersymmetric solutions in D=3, N=2, matter coupled, U(1) gauged supergravities and study some of their properties. We do this by employing a quite general supersymmetry breaking condition, from which we also redrive some of the already known solutions. Among the new solutions, we have an explicit non-topological soliton for the non-compact sigma model, a locally flat solution for the compact sigma model and a string-like solution for both types of sigma models. The last one is smooth for the compact scalar manifold.

Negative Mass Solitons in Gravity

We first reconstruct the conserved (Abbott-Deser) charges in the spin connection formalism of gravity for asymptotically (Anti)-de Sitter spaces, and then compute the masses of the AdS soliton and the recently found Eguchi-Hanson solitons in generic odd dimensions, unlike the previous result obtained for only five dimensions. These solutions have negative masses compared to the global AdS or AdS/Z_p spacetimes. As a separate note, we also compute the masses of the recent even dimensional Taub-NUT-Reissner-Nordstrom metrics.

Closed timelike curves and geodesics of Godel-type metrics

It is shown explicitly that when the characteristic vector field that defines a Godel-type metric is also a Killing vector, there always exist closed timelike or null curves in spacetimes described by such a metric. For these geometries, the geodesic curves are also shown to be characterized by a lower dimensional Lorentz force equation for a charged point particle in the relevant Riemannian background. Moreover, two explicit examples are given for which timelike and null geodesics can never be closed.
