Teleparallel Equivalent of Lovelock Gravity, Generalizations and Cosmological Applications

We consider the teleparallel equivalent of Lovelock gravity and its natural extension, where the action is given by an arbitrary function $f(T_{_{L_1}}, T_{_{L_2}},\cdot \cdot \cdot , T_{_{L_n}})$ of the torsion invariants $T_{_{L_i}}$, which contain higher order torsion terms, and derive its field equations. Then, we consider the special case of $f(T_{_{L_1}}, T_{_{L_2}})$ gravity and study a cosmological scenario by selecting a particular $f(T_{_{L_1}}, T_{_{L_2}})$, and derive the Friedmann equations. Also, we perform a dynamical systems analysis to extract information on the evolution of the cosmological model. Mainly, we find that the model has a very rich phenomenology and can describe the acceleration of the universe at late times

Quasinormal modes of three-dimensional rotating Hořava AdS black hole and the approach to thermal equilibrium

We compute the quasinormal modes (QNMs) of a massive scalar field in the background of a rotating three-dimensional Hořava AdS black hole, and we analyze the effect of the breaking of the Lorentz invariance on the QNMs. Imposing on the horizon that there are only ingoing waves and at infinity the Dirichlet boundary conditions and the Neumann boundary condition, we calculate the oscillatory and the decay modes of the QNMs. We find that the propagation of the scalar field is stable in this background and employing the holographic principle we find the different times of the perturbed system to reach thermal equilibrium for the various branches of solutions.

Motion and collision of particles near DST Black holes

We consider Deser-Sarioglu-Tekin (DST) black holes as background and we study such the motion of massive particles as the collision of two spinning particles in the vicinity of its horizon. New kinds of orbits are allowed for small deviations of General Relativity, but the behavior of the collision is similar to the one observed for General Relativity. Some observables like bending of light and the perihelion precession are analyzed.

Spontaneous Momentum Dissipation and Coexistence of Phases in Holographic Horndeski Theory

We discuss the possible phases dual to the AdS hairy black holes in Horndeski theory. In the probe limit breaking the translational invariance, we study the conductivity and we find a non-trivial structure indicating a collective excitation of the charge carriers as a competing effect of momentum dissipation and the coupling of the scalar field to Einstein tensor. Going beyond the probe limit, we investigate the spontaneous breaking of translational invariance near the critical temperature and discuss the stability of the theory. We consider the backreaction of the charged scalar field to the metric and we construct numerically the hairy black hole solution. To determine the dual phases of a hairy black hole, we compute the conductivity. When the wave number of the scalar field is zero, the DC conductivity is divergent due to the conservation of translational invariance. For nonzero wave parameter with finite DC conductivity, we find two phases in the dual theory. For low temperatures and for positive couplings, as the temperature is lower, the DC conductivity increases therefore the dual theory is in metal phase, while if the coupling is negative we have the opposite behavior and it is dual to an insulating phase. We argue that this behavior of the coupling of the scalar field to Einstein tensor can be attributed to its role as an impurity parameter in the dual theory.

Deflection of light by rotating regular black holes using the Gauss-Bonnet theorem

In this paper, we study the weak gravitational lensing in the spacetime of rotating regular black hole geometries such as Ayon-Beato-García (ABG), Bardeen, and Hayward black holes. We calculate the deflection angle of light using the Gauss-Bonnet theorem (GBT) and show that the deflection of light can be viewed as a partially topological effect in which the deflection angle can be calculated by considering a domain outside of the light ray applied to the black hole optical geometries. Then, we demonstrate also the deflection angle via the geodesics formalism for these black holes to verify our results and explore the differences with the Kerr solution. These black holes have in addition to the total mass and rotation parameter, different parameters as electric charge, magnetic charge, and deviation parameter. Newsworthy, we find that the deflection of light has correction terms coming from these parameters which generalizes the Kerr deflection angle.

Hawking radiation and propagation of massive charged scalar field on a three-dimensional Gödel black hole

In this paper we consider the three-dimensional Gödel black hole as a background and we study the vector particle tunneling from this background in order to obtain the Hawking temperature. Then, we study the propagation of a massive charged scalar field and we find the quasinormal modes analytically, which turns out be unstable as a consequence of the existence of closed time-like curves. Also, we consider the flux at the horizon and at infinity, and we compute the reflection and transmission coefficients as well as the absorption cross section. Mainly, we show that massive charged scalar waves can be superradiantly amplified by the three-dimensional Gödel black hole and that the coefficients have an oscillatory behavior. Moreover, the absorption cross section is null at the high frequency limit and for certain values of the frequency.

Motion and collision of particles in rotating linear dilaton black hole

We study the motion of particles in the background of a four-dimensional linear dilaton black hole. We solve analytically the equations of motion of the test particles and we describe their motion. We show that the dilaton black hole acts as a particle accelerator by analyzing the energy in the center of mass (CM) frame of two colliding particles in the vicinity of its horizon. In particular we find that there is a critical value of the angular momentum, which depends on the string coupling, and a particle with this critical angular momentum can reach the inner horizon with an arbitrarily high CM energy. This is known as the Bañados, Silk and West (BSW) process. We also show that the motion and collisions of particles have a similar behavior to the three-dimensional BTZ black hole. In fact, the photons can plunge into the horizon or escape to infinity, and they can not be deflected, while for massive particles there are no confined orbits of first kind, like planetary or circular orbits.

Particle collisions near a three-dimensional warped AdS black hole

In this paper we consider the warped AdS$_{3}$ black hole solution of topologically massive gravity with a negative cosmological constant, and we investigate the possibility that it acts as a particle accelerator by analyzing the energy in the center of mass (CM) frame of two colliding particles in the vicinity of its horizon, which is known as the Bañados, Silk and West (BSW) process. Mainly, we show that the critical angular momentum $(L_c)$ of the particle decreases when the parameter that controls the stretching deformation ($ν$) increases. Also, we show that despite the particle with $L_c$ can exist for certain values of the conserved energy outside the horizon, it will never reach the event horizon; therefore, the black hole can not act as a particle accelerator with arbitrarily high CM energy on the event horizon. However, such particle could also exist inside the outer horizon being the BSW process possible on the inner horizon. On the other hand, for the extremal warped AdS$_{3}$ black hole, the particle with $L_c$ and energy $E$ could exist outside the event horizon and the CM energy blows up on the event horizon if its conserved energy fulfill the condition $E^{2}>\frac{(ν^{2}+3)l^{2}}{3(ν^{2}-1)}$, being the BSW process possible.

Quasinormal modes of a scalar field in the Einstein--Gauss--Bonnet-AdS black hole background: Perturbative and non-perturbative branches

It has recently been found that quasinormal modes of asymptotically anti-de Sitter (AdS) black holes in theories with higher curvature corrections may help to describe the regime of intermediate 't Hooft coupling in the dual field theory. Here, we consider quasinormal modes of a scalar field in the background of spherical Gauss--Bonnet--anti-de Sitter (AdS) black holes. In general, the eigenvalues of wave equations are found here numerically, but at a fixed Gauss-Bonnet constant $α= R^2/2$ (where $R$ is the AdS radius), an exact solution of the scalar field equation has been obtained. Remarkably, the purely imaginary modes, which are usually appropriate only to some gravitational perturbations, were found here even for a test scalar field. These purely imaginary modes of the Einstein--Gauss--Bonnet theory do not have the Einsteinian limits, because their damping rates grow, when $α$ is decreasing. Thus, these modes are nonperturbative in $α$. The real oscillation frequencies of the perturbative branch are linearly related to their Schwarzschild-AdS limits $Re (ω_{GB}) = Re (ω_{SAdS}) (1+ K(D) (α/R^2))$, where $D$ is the number of spacetime dimensions. Comparison of the analytical formula with the frequencies found by the shooting method allows us to test the latter. In addition, we found exact solutions to the master equations for gravitational perturbations at $α=R^2/2$ and observed that for the scalar type of gravitational perturbations an eikonal instability develops.

Motion of magnetically charged particles in a magnetically charged stringy black hole spacetime

We study the motion of massive particles with electric and magnetic charges in the background of a magnetically charged Garfinkle-Horowitz-Strominger stringy black hole. We solve analytically the equations of motion of the test particles and we describe the orbital motion in terms of the Weierstrass elliptic functions. We find that there are critical values of the magnetic charge of the black hole and the magnetic charge of the test particle which characterize the bound and unbound orbits and we study two observables, the perihelion shift and the Lense-Thirring effect. The trajectories depend on the electric and magnetic charges of the test particle. While the angular-motion depends on the electric charge of the test particle, the $r$ and $t$-motion depends on the mass and the magnetic charge of the test particle.

Fermionic field perturbations of a three-dimensional Lifshitz black hole in conformal gravity

We study the propagation of massless fermionic fields in the background of a three-dimensional Lifshitz black hole, which is a solution of conformal gravity. The black hole solution is characterized by a null dynamical exponent. Then, we compute analytically the quasinormal modes, the area spectrum, and the absorption cross section for fermionic fields. The analysis of the quasinormal modes shows that the fermionic perturbations are stable in this background. The area and entropy spectrum are evenly spaced. At the low frequency limit, it is observed that there is a range of values of the angular momentum of the mode that contributes to the absorption cross section, whereas it vanishes at the high frequency limit. In addition, by a suitable change of variables a gravitational soliton can also be obtained and the stability of the quasinormal modes are studied and ensured.

Superradiant Instability of Near Extremal and Extremal Four-Dimensional Charged Hairy Black Hole in anti-de Sitter Spacetime

We study the instability of near extremal and extremal four-dimensional AdS charged hairy black hole to radial neutral massive and charged massless scalar field perturbations. We solve the scalar field equation by using the improved asymptotic iteration method and the time domain analysis and we find the quasinormal frequencies. For the charged scalar perturbations, we find the superradiance condition by computing the reflection coefficient in the low-frequency limit and we show that in the superradiance regime, which depends on the scalar hair charge, all modes of radial charged massless perturbations are unstable, indicating that the charged hairy black hole is superradiantly unstable. On the other hand, calculating the quasinormal frequencies of radial neutral scalar perturbations in this background, we found stability of the charged hairy black hole.

Four-dimensional black holes with scalar hair in nonlinear electrodynamics

We consider a gravitating system consisting of a scalar field minimally coupled to gravity with a self-interacting potential and a U(1) nonlinear electromagnetic field. Solving analytically and numerically the coupled system for both power-law and Born-Infeld type electrodynamics, we find charged hairy black hole solutions. Then, we study the thermodynamics of these solutions and we find that at a low temperature the topological charged black hole with scalar hair is thermodynamically preferred, whereas the topological charged black hole without scalar hair is thermodynamically preferred at a high temperature for power-law electrodynamics. Interestingly enough, these phase transitions occur at a fixed critical temperature and do not depend on the exponent $p$ of the nonlinearity electrodynamics.

Quasinormal modes of non-Abelian hyperscaling violating Lifshitz black holes

We study the quasinormal modes of scalar field perturbations in the background of non-Abelian hyperscaling violating Lifshitz black holes. We find that the quasinormal frequencies have no real part so there is no oscillatory behavior in the perturbations, only exponential decay, that is, the system is always overdamped, which guarantees the mode stability of non-Abelian hyperscaling violating Lifshitz black holes. We determine analytically the quasinormal modes for massless scalar fields for a dynamical exponent $z=2$ and hyperscaling violating exponent $\tildeθ>-2$. Also, we obtain numerically the quasinormal frequencies for different values of the dynamical exponent and the hyperscaling violating exponent by using the improved asymptotic iteration method.

Also, we consider different values of the dynamical exponent, the nonlinear exponent and the hyperscaling violating exponent.

Three-Dimensional Hairy Black Holes in Teleparallel Gravity

We consider three-dimensional gravity based on torsion. Specifically, we consider an extension of the so-called Teleparallel Equivalent of General Relativity in the presence of a scalar field with a self-interacting potential, where the scalar field is non-minimally coupled with the torsion scalar. Then, we find asymptotically AdS hairy black hole solutions, which are characterized by a scalar field with a power-law behavior, being regular outside the event horizon and null at spatial infinity and by a self-interacting potential, which tends to an effective cosmological constant at spatial infinity.

Fermionic greybody factors of two and five-dimensional dilatonic black holes

We study fermionic perturbations in the background of a two and five-dimensional dilatonic black holes. Then, we compute the reflection and transmission coefficients and the absorption cross section for fermionic fields, and we show numerically that the absorption cross section vanishes in the low and high frequency limit. Also we find that beyond a certain value of the horizon radius $r_0$ the absorption cross section for five-dimensional dilatonic black hole is constant. Besides, we have find that the absorption cross section decreases for higher angular momentum, and it decreases when the mass of the fermionic field increases.

Hawking Radiation for Scalar and Dirac Fields in Five Dimensional Dilatonic Black Hole via Anomalies

We study massive scalar fields and Dirac fields propagating in a five dimensional dilatonic black hole background. We expose that for both fields the physics can be describe by a two dimensional theory, near the horizon. Then, in this limit, by applying the covariant anomalies method we find the Hawking flux by restoring the gauge invariance and the general coordinate covariance, which coincides with the flux obtained from integrating the Planck distribution for fermions.
