Improved measurements of the coherence factors and strong-phase differences in $D\to K^-π^+π^+π^-$ and $D\to K^-π^+π^0$ with quantum-correlated $D\bar{D}$ decays

Improved measurements of the coherence factors and strong-phase differences in $D\to K^-π^+π^+π^-$ and $D\to K^-π^+π^0$ decays are reported, using quantum-correlated $D\bar{D}$ pairs produced in $e^+e^-$ annihilation at a center-of-mass energy of $3.773\,\mathrm{GeV}$, where $D$ denotes a quantum superposition of the flavour-specific $D^{0}$ and $\bar{D}^{0}$ mesons. The analysis employs a dataset collected by the BESIII experiment, corresponding to an integrated luminosity of $7.93~\rm fb^{-1}$. The observables sensitive to the coherence factors and strong-phase differences are measured by reconstructing one $D$ meson in the signal mode and the other in a tag mode. These parameters provide essential inputs to the measurement of the angle $γ$ of the Cabibbo-Kobayashi-Maskawa Unitarity Triangle in the LHCb and Belle II experiments. The coherence factors are determined to be $R_{K3π}=0.51\pm0.04$ and $R_{Kππ^0}=0.75\pm0.03$, and the strong-phase differences are $δ_D^{K3π}=\left(182^{+14}_{-13}\right)^\circ$ and $δ_D^{Kππ^0}=\left(209^{+7}_{-8}\right)^\circ$, where the uncertainties include both statistical and systematic contributions. For $D\to K^-π^+π^+π^-$, the parameters have been further determined in four phase-space bins with improved precision compared to the previous BESIII results. The uncertainty on future $γ$ measurements from the knowledge of $D\to K^-π^+π^+π^-$ parameters is expected to be reduced to approximately 3.5$^\circ$.

First observation of the $\overline{B}_{s}^{0}\toΛ_{c}^{+}\overlineΛ_{c}{}^{-}$ decay and evidence for the $\overline{B}^{0}\toΛ_{c}^{+}\overlineΛ_{c}{}^{-}$ decay

A search is presented for the two-body charmed baryonic decays $\overline{B}_{(s)}^{0}\toΛ_{c}^{+}\overlineΛ_{c}{}^{-}$, using a data sample collected by the LHCb experiment during 2011--2012 and 2015--2018 corresponding to an integrated luminosity of $9\,\mathrm{fb}^{-1}$. The first observation of the $\overline{B}_{s}^{0}\toΛ_{c}^{+}\overlineΛ_{c}{}^{-}$ decay is reported with $6.2σ$ significance, along with $4.3σ$ evidence for the $\overline{B}^{0}\toΛ_{c}^{+}\overlineΛ_{c}{}^{-}$ decay. The branching fractions are measured to be $\mathcal{B}{}(\overline{B}^{0}\toΛ_{c}^{+}\overlineΛ_{c}{}^{-}) = (1.01^{+0.27}_{-0.28} \pm 0.08 \pm 0.15) \times 10^{-5}$ and $\mathcal{B}{}(\overline{B}_{s}^{0}\toΛ_{c}^{+}\overlineΛ_{c}{}^{-}) = (5.0 \pm 1.3 \pm 0.5 \pm 0.8) \times 10^{-5}$, where the first uncertainty is statistical, the second systematic, and the third due to external inputs. These results provide novel experimental inputs for the theoretical framework describing two-body baryonic decays of $B$ mesons via $W$-emission and $W$-exchange mechanisms.

The decay $ψ(3686)\toγπ^+π^-π^0$ is studied using a sample of $(2712.4\pm14.3)\times10^6$ $ψ(3686)$ events collected with the BESIII detector. The decay $η(1405)\toπ^+π^-π^0$ is observed for the first time in $ψ(3686)$ decays via the intermediate state $f_0(980)$ and the product branching fraction $\mathcal{B}(ψ(3686)\toγη(1405))\times\mathcal{B}(η(1405)\to f_0(980)π^0)\times \mathcal{B}(f_0(980)\toπ^+π^-)$ is determined to be $(3.77\pm0.43\pm0.29)\times10^{-7}$, where the first uncertainty is statistical and the second is systematic. The isospin-violating decay of $ψ(3686)\toγf_1(1285)\toγf_0(980)π^0\toγπ^+π^-π^0$ has been observed with signal significance of $2.9σ$. And the branching fraction $\mathcal{B}(ψ(3686)\toγf_1(1285)\toγf_0(980)π^0\toγπ^+π^-π^0)$ is determined to be $ (7.36\pm2.25\pm2.26)\times 10^{-8}$. Since no $η_c$ signal is evident in either the $π^+π^-π^0$ or $f_0(980)π^0$ mass spectrum, upper limits are set to be $\mathcal{B}(ψ(3686)\toγη_c)\times\mathcal{B}(η_c\toπ^+π^-π^0)<3.09\times10^{-7}$ and $\mathcal{B}(ψ(3686)\toγη_c)\times\mathcal{B}(η_c\to f_0(980)π^0)\times\mathcal{B}(f_0(980)\toπ^+π^-)<7.97\times10^{-8}$ at 90\% confidence level, respectively.

Search for the electromagnetic Dalitz decays $χ_{cJ}\to e^{+}e^{-}ϕ$

Using a data sample of $(2.712 \pm 0.014)\times10^{9}$ $ψ(3686)$ events collected at $\sqrt{s}=3.686$ GeV by the BESIII detector, we search for the rare electromagnetic Dalitz decays $χ_{cJ}\to e^+e^-ϕ~(J=0,\,1,\,2)$ via the radiative transitions $ψ(3686)\toγχ_{cJ}$. No statistically significant $χ_{cJ}\to e^+e^-ϕ$ signals are observed. The upper limits on the branching fractions of $χ_{cJ}\to e^+e^-ϕ~(J=0,\,1,\,2)$, excluding the $ϕ$ resonance to $e^+e^-$ final states, are set to be $2.4\times10^{-7},~6.7\times10^{-7}$ and $4.1\times10^{-7}$ at 90\% confidence level, respectively. This is the first search for the electromagnetic Dalitz transition of P-wave charmonium $χ_{cJ}$ states to a light vector meson.

Using a data sample of $(2712.4\pm14.3)\times10^6\ ψ(3686)$ events collected with the BESIII detector, a partial-wave analysis of $ψ(3686)\to\bar{p}K^+Σ^0+c.c.$ is performed. A new excited $Σ$ baryon state is observed with a statistical significance of $11.9σ$, and the mass and width are measured as $(2334.7\pm7.9\pm16.0)\;\mathrm{MeV}/c^2$ and $(206.3\pm9.5\pm18.4)\;\mathrm{MeV}$, respectively. The spin-parity of the new state is favored to be $3/2^-$, and the branching fraction of $ψ(3686)\to\barΣ(2330)^0Σ^0+c.c.$ is determined to be $(4.47\pm0.58\pm1.52)\times10^{-6}$. In addition, the branching fraction of $ψ(3686)\to\bar{p}K^+Σ^0+c.c.$ is determined to be either $(2.44\pm0.20\pm0.08)\times10^{-5}$ or $(1.73\pm0.29\pm0.06)\times10^{-5}$ by considering two solutions. The first uncertainties are statistical and the second systematic.

Measurement of the singly Cabibbo-suppressed decay $Λ_c^+\to pη'$ with Deep Learning

Using $4.5$ fb$^{-1}$ of $e^+e^-$ collision data collected with the BESIII detector at center-of-mass energies from 4.600 to 4.699 GeV, we report a measurement of the singly Cabibbo-suppressed decay $Λ_c^+ \to pη'$ with the single-tag method. To effectively distinguish the signal from the large backgrounds, we exploit a deep-learning classifier built on a Transformer-based neural network. Extensive validation and uncertainty quantification are carried out. The $Λ^+_c\to pη'$ signal is observed with a statistical significance of $3.4 σ$. The ratio of branching fractions of $\mathcal{B}{Λ^+_c\to pη'}/\mathcal{B}{Λ^+_c\to pω}$= $0.55\pm 0.22_{\rm{stat.}} \pm 0.05_{\rm{syst.}}$ is obtained, where the first uncertainty is statistical and the second systematic.

Observation of the rare baryonic decay $B^{+}\rightarrow p \bar{\itΛ}$ and measurement of its weak decay parameter

The first observation of the decay $B^{+}\rightarrow p \bar{\itΛ}$ is presented, using proton-proton collision data collected by the LHCb experiment between 2016 and 2018 at a center-of-mass energy of 13 TeV, corresponding to an integrated luminosity of $5.4\,\mathrm{fb}^{-1}$. The signal significance exceeds seven standard deviations. Using the $B^{+} \rightarrow K^{\mathrm{0}}_{\mathrm{S}} π^{+}$ decay as a normalization channel, the branching fraction is measured and combined with previous LHCb results based on data collected at 7 and 8 TeV in 2011 and 2012, yielding $\mathcal{B}(B^{+}\rightarrow p \bar{\itΛ})=(1.24\pm 0.17\pm 0.05\pm 0.03)\times 10^{-7}$, where the first uncertainty is statistical, the second is systematic, and the third comes from the uncertainty on the branching fraction of the normalization channel. The $B^{+}\rightarrow p \bar{\itΛ}$ weak decay parameter is measured to be $α_B = 0.87_{-0.29}^{+0.26} \pm 0.09$, indicating the presence of comparable S-wave and P-wave decay amplitudes.

Search for a hypothetical gauge boson and dark photons in charmonium transitions

We report a direct search for a new gauge boson, $X$, with a mass of $17~\text{MeV}/c^2$, which could explain the anomalous excess of $e^+e^-$ pairs observed in the $^8\text{Be}$ nuclear transitions. The search is conducted in the charmonium decays $χ_{cJ}\to X J/ψ~(J=0,1,2)$ via the radiative transition $ψ(3686)\toγχ_{cJ}$ using $\left(2712.4\pm 14.3 \right)\times 10^6$ $ψ(3686)$ events collected with the BESIII detector at the BEPCII collider. No significant signal is observed, and the updated upper limit on the coupling strength of charm quark and the new gauge boson, $ε_c$, is set to be $|ε_c|<1.2\times 10^{-2}$ at $90\%$ confidence level. We also report new constraints on the mixing strength $ε$ between the Standard Model photon and dark photon $γ^\prime$ in the mass range from $5~\text{MeV}/c^2$ to $300~\text{MeV}/c^2$. The upper limits at $90\%$ confidence level vary within $(2.5-17.5)\times 10^{-3}$ depending on the $γ^\prime $ mass.

Study of $\barΛ$-$p$ Annihilation into Light Mesons

The annihilation of $\barΛ$-$p$ into light mesons is studied using $(10.087\pm0.044)\times10^{9}$ $J/ψ$ events collected with the BESIII detector at the BEPCII storage ring. The $\barΛ$ baryons are produced in the process $J/ψ\rightarrowΛ\barΛ$ and interact with the protons in the hydrogen nuclei in the cooling oil of the beam pipe. The reactions $\barΛp\rightarrow K^+π^+π^-$ and $K^+2π^+2π^-$ are observed for the first time, evidence for the reaction $\barΛp\rightarrow K^0_S2π^+π^-$ is found, and no significant signals are seen for the reactions $\barΛp\rightarrow K^0_Sπ^+$, $K^+3π^+3π^-$ and $2K^+K^-$. The cross sections of these reactions are also measured at $P_{\barΛ}\approx 1.074$ GeV/$c$. Furthermore, no significant structures are observed in the combinations of the final state particles for these reactions. The annihilation of $\barΛ$-$p$ into light mesons presents the similar behavior as $\bar{n}$-$p$ reactions in this energy region. These new measurements will serve as important inputs for the theoretical understanding of the antihyperon-nucleon interaction, and further contribute to understanding antibaryon-baryon interaction in a unified perspective.

The branching fraction of $η\rightarrowπ^+π^-e^+e^-$ is measured to be $\mathcal{B}(η\rightarrowπ^+π^-e^+e^-)=(3.07\pm0.12_{\rm{stat.}}\pm0.19_{\rm{syst.}}) \times10^{-4}$. No signal events are observed for the $η\rightarrowπ^{+}π^{-}μ^{+}μ^{-}$ decay, leading to an upper limit on the branching fraction of $\mathcal{B}(η\rightarrowπ^{+}π^{-}μ^{+}μ^{-})<4.0\times10^{-7}$ at the 90\% confidence level. Furthermore, the $CP$-violation asymmetry parameter is found to be $\mathcal{A}_{CP}(η\rightarrowπ^{+}π^{-}e^{+}e^{-})=(-4.04\pm4.69_{\rm{stat.}}\pm0.14_{\rm{syst.}})\%$, showing no evidence of $CP$-violation with current statistics. Additionally, we extract the transition form factor from the decay amplitude of $η\rightarrowπ^+π^-e^+e^-$. Finally, axion-like particles are searched for via the decay $η\rightarrowπ^+π^-a, a\rightarrow e^+e^-$, and upper limits on this branching fraction relative to that of $η\rightarrowπ^+π^-e^+e^-$ are presented as a function of the axion-like particle mass in the range $5-200\ \mathrm{MeV}/c^{2}$.

First Measurement of the Absolute Branching Fraction of $η_c \to γγ$
