Cosmology Based on Finsler and Finsler-like Metric Structure of Gravitational Field

In this article, we review some aspects of gravitational field and cosmology based on Finsler and Finsler-like generalized metric structures. The geometrical framework of these spaces allows further investigation of locally-anisotropic phenomena related to the gravitational field and cosmological considerations, e.g the extracted geodesics, deflection of light, Finsler-Einstein gravitational field equations , the Friedmann equations and the Raychaudhuri equations include extra anisotropic terms that in the Riemannian framework of General Relativity (GR) are not interpreted. This approach gives us the opportunity to extend the research with more degrees of freedom on the tangent bundle of a spacetime manifold. In the above mentioned generalizations omitting the extra anisotropic terms we recover the framework of GR. In addition, we study the gravitational Magnus effect in a generalized metric framework. Based on this approach, we describe further properties of Finsler-Randers (FR) and Schwarzschild Finsler Randers (SFR) cosmological models which are useful for the description and evolution of the universe.

Finsler-Randers-Sasaki gravity and cosmology

We present for the first time a Friedmann-like construction in the framework of an osculating Finsler-Randers-Sasaki geometry. In particular, we consider a vector field in the metric on a Lorentz tangent bundle, and thus the curvatures of horizontal and vertical spaces, as well as the extra contributions of torsion and non-linear connection, provide an intrinsic richer geometrical structure, with additional degrees of freedom, that lead to extra terms in the field equations. Applying these modified field equations at a cosmological setup we extract the generalized Friedmann equations for the horizontal and vertical space, showing that we obtain an effective dark energy sector arising from the richer underlying structure of the tangent bundle. Additionally, as it is common in Finsler-like constructions, we obtain an effective interaction between matter and geometry. Finally, we consider a specific model and we show that it can describe the sequence of matter and dark-energy epochs, and that the dark-energy equation of state can lie in the quintessence or phantom regimes, or cross the phantom divide.

Raychaudhuri equations, Tidal forces and Weak field Limit in Schwarzshild-Finsler-Randers spacetime

In this article, we study the form of deviation of geodesics (tidal forces) and Raychaudhuri equation in a Schwarzshild-Finsler-Randers (SFR) spacetime which has been investigated in previous papers. This model is obtained by considering the structure of a Lorentz tangent bundle of spacetime and in particular the kind of the curvatures in generalized metric spaces where there is more than one curvature tensor, such as Finsler-like spacetimes. In these cases, the concept of the Raychaudhuri equation is extended with extra terms and degrees of freedom from the dependence of internal variables as the velocity or an anisotropic vector field. Additionally, we investigate some consequences of the weak field limit on the spacetime under consideration and study the Newtonian limit equations which include a generalization of the Poisson equation.

Schwarzschild-Finsler-Randers spacetime: Dynamical analysis, Geodesics and Deflection Angle

In this work, we extend the study of Schwarzschild-Finsler-Randers (SFR) spacetime previously investigated by a subset of the present authors (Triantafyllopoulos et al. in Eur Phys J C 80(12):1200, 2020; Kapsabelis et al. in Eur Phys J C 81(11):990, 2021). We will examine the dynamical analysis of geodesics which provides the derivation of the energy and the angular momentum of a particle moving along a geodesic of SFR spacetime. This study allows us to compare our model with the corresponding of general relativity (GR). In addition, the effective potential of SFR model is examined and it is compared with the effective potential of GR. The phase portraits generated by these effective potentials are also compared. Finally we deal with the derivation of the deflection angle of the SFR spacetime and we find that there is a small perturbation from the deflection angle of GR. We also derive an interesting relation between the deflection angles of SFR model and the corresponding result in the work of Shapiro et al (Phys Rev Lett 92(12):121101, 2004). These small differences are attributed to the anisotropic metric structure of the model and especially to a Randers term which provides a small deviation from the GR.

Applications of the Schwarzschild-Finsler-Randers model

In this article, we study further applications of the Schwarzschild-Finsler-Randers (SFR) model which was introduced in a previous work. In this model, we investigate curvatures and the generalized Kretschmann invariant which plays a crucial role for singularities. In addition, the derived path equations are used for the gravitational redshift of the SFR-model and these are compared with the GR model. Finally, we get some results for different values of parameters of the generalized photonsphere of the SFR-model and we find small deviations from the classical results of general relativity (GR) which may be ought to the possible Lorentz violation effects.

Dark Gravitational Sectors on a Generalized Scalar-Tensor Vector Bundle Model and Cosmological Applications

In this work we present the foundations of generalized scalar-tensor theories arising from vector bundle constructions, and we study the kinematic, dynamical and cosmological consequences. In particular, over a pseudo-Riemannian space-time base manifold, we define a fiber structure with two scalar fields. The resulting space is a 6-dimensional vector bundle endowed with a non-linear connection. We provide the form of the geodesics and the Raychaudhuri and general field equations, both in Palatini and metrical method. When applied at a cosmological framework, this novel geometrical structure induces extra terms in the modified Friedmann equations, leading to the appearance of an effective dark energy sector, as well as of an interaction of the dark mater sector with the metric. We show that we can obtain the standard thermal history of the universe, with the sequence of matter and dark-energy epochs, and furthermore the effective dark-energy equation-of-state parameter can lie in the quintessence or phantom regimes, or exhibit the phantom-divide crossing.

Schwarzschild-like solutions in Finsler-Randers gravity

In this work, we extend for the first time the spherically symmetric Schwarzschild and Schwarzschild-De Sitter solutions with a Finsler-Randers-type perturbation which is generated by a covector $A_γ$. This gives a locally anisotropic character to the metric and induces a deviation from the Riemannian models of gravity. A natural framework for this study is the Lorentz tangent bundle of a spacetime manifold. We apply the generalized field equations to the perturbed metric and derive the dynamics for the covector $A_γ$. Finally, we find the timelike, spacelike and null paths on the Schwarzschild-Randers spacetime, we solve the timelike ones numerically and we compare them with the classic geodesics of general relativity. The obtained solutions are new and they enrich the corresponding literature.

Weak field equations and generalized FRW cosmology on the tangent Lorentz bundle

We study field equations for a weak anisotropic model on the tangent Lorentz bundle $TM$ of a spacetime manifold. A geometrical extension of General Relativity (GR) is considered by introducing the concept of local anisotropy, i.e. a direct dependence of geometrical quantities on observer $4-$velocity. In this approach, we consider a metric on $TM$ as the sum of an h-Riemannian metric structure and a weak anisotropic perturbation, field equations with extra terms are obtained for this model. As well, extended Raychaudhuri equations are studied in the framework of Finsler-like extensions. Canonical momentum and mass-shell equation are also generalized in relation to their GR counterparts. Quantization of the mass-shell equation leads to a generalization of the Klein-Gordon equation and dispersion relation for a scalar field. In this model the accelerated expansion of the universe can be attributed to the geometry itself. A cosmological bounce is modeled with the introduction of an anisotropic scalar field. Also, the electromagnetic field equations are directly incorporated in this framework.

Finsler-Randers Cosmology: dynamical analysis and growth of matter perturbations

We study for the first time the dynamical properties and the growth index of linear matter perturbations of the Finsler-Randers (FR) cosmological model, for which we consider that the cosmic fluid contains matter, radiation and a scalar field. Initially, for various FR scenarios we implement a critical point analysis and we find solutions which provide cosmic acceleration and under certain circumstances we can have de-Sitter points as stable late-time attractors. Then we derive the growth index of matter fluctuations in various Finsler-Randers cosmologies. Considering cold dark matter and neglecting the scalar field component from the perturbation analysis we find that the asymptotic value of the growth index is $γ_{\infty}^{(FR)}\approx\frac {9}{16}$, which is close to that of the concordance $Λ$ cosmology, $γ^{(Λ)} \approx\frac{6}{11}$. In this context, we show that the current FR model provides the same Hubble expansion with that of Dvali, Gabadadze and Porrati (DGP) gravity model. However, the two models can be distinguished at the perturbation level since the growth index of FR model is $\sim18.2\%$ lower than that of the DPG gravity $γ^{(DGP)} \approx \frac{11}{16}$. If we allow pressure in the matter fluid then we obtain $γ_{\infty}^{(FR)}\approx\frac{9(1+w_{m})(1+2w_{m})}{2[8+3w_{m}% (5+3w_{m})]}$, where $w_{m}$ is the matter equation of state parameter. Finally, we extend the growth index analysis by using the scalar field and we find that the evolution of the growth index in FR cosmologies is affected by the presence of scalar field.

Relativistic Finsler geometry

We briefly review some basic concepts of parallel displacement in Finsler geometry. In general relativity, the parallel translation of objects along the congruence of the fundamental observer corresponds to the evolution in time. By dropping the quadratic restriction on the measurement of an infinitesimal distance, the geometry is generalized to a Finsler structure. Apart from curvature a new property of the manifold complicates the geometrodynamics, the color. The color brings forth an intrinsic local anisotropy and many quantities depend on position and to a "supporting" direction. We discuss this direction dependence and some physical interpretations. Also, we highlight that in Finsler geometry the parallel displacement isn't necessarily always along the "supporting" direction. The latter is a fundamental congruence of the manifold and induces a natural 1+3 decomposition. Its internal deformation is given through the evolution of the irreducible components of vorticity, shear and expansion.

Covariant kinematics and gravitational bounce in Finsler space-times

The similarity between Finsler and Riemann geometry is an intriguing starting point to extend general relativity. The lack of quadratic restriction over the line element (color) naturally generalize the Riemannian case and breaks the local symmetries of general relativity. In addition, the Finsler manifold is enriched with new geometric entities and all the classical identities are suitably extended. We investigate the covariant kinematics of a medium formed by a time-like congruence. After a brief view in the general case we impose particular geometric restrictions to get some analytic insight. Central role to our analysis plays the Lie derivative where even in case of irrotational Killing vectors the bundle still deforms. We demonstrate an example of an isotropic and exponentially expanding cross-section that finally deflates or forms a caustic. Furthermore, using the 1+3 covariant formalism we investigate the expansion dynamics of the congruence. For certain geometric restrictions we retrieve the Raychaudhuri equation where a color-curvature coupling is revealed. The condition to prevent the focusing of neighboring particles is given and is more likely to fulfilled in highly curved regions. Then, we introduce the Levi-Civita connection for the osculating Riemannian metric and develop a (spatially) isotropic and homogeneous dust-like model with a non-singular bounce.

Imperfect fluids, Lorentz violations and Finsler Cosmology

We construct a cosmological toy model based on a Finslerian structure of space-time. In particular, we are interested in a specific Finslerian Lorentz violating theory based on a curved version of Cohen and Glashow's Very Special Relativity. The osculation of a Finslerian manifold to a Riemannian leads to the limit of Relativistic Cosmology, for a specified observer. A modified flat FRW cosmology is produced. The analogue of a zero energy particle unfolds some special properties of the dynamics. The kinematical equations of motion are affected by local anisotropies. Seeds of Lorentz Violations may trigger density inhomogeneities to the cosmological fluid.

The General Very Special Relativity in Finsler Cosmology

General Very Special Relativity (GVSR) is the curved space-time of Very Special Relativity (VSR) proposed by Cohen and Glashow. The geometry of GVSR possesses a line element of Finsler Geometry proposed by Bogoslovsky. We calculate the Einstein field equations and derive a modified FRW cosmology, for an osculating Riemannian space. The Friedman equation of motion leads to an explanation of the cosmological acceleration in terms of an alternative non-Lorentz invariant theory. A first order approach for a primordial spurionic vector field introduced into the metric, gives back an estimation of the energy evolution and inflation

Friedmann Robertson-Walker model in generalised metric space-time with weak anisotropy

A generalized model of space-time is given, taking into consideration the anisotropic structure of fields which are depended on the position and the direction (velocity). In this framework a generalized FRW-metric the Raychaudhouri and Friedmann equations are studied.A long range vector field of cosmological origin is considered in relation to the physical geometry of space-time in which Cartan connection has a fundamental role. The generalised Friedmann equations are produced including anisotropic terms. The variation of anisotropy $z_t$ is expressed in terms of the Cartan torsion tensor of the Finslerian space-time.A possible estimation of the anisotropic parameter $z_t$ can be achieved with the aid of the de-Sitter model of the empty flat universe with weak anisotropy. Finally a physical generalisation for the model of inflation is also studied.

A Geometric Anisotropic Model of Space-Time Based on Finsler Metric

In this work we study an anisotropic model of general relativity based on the framework of Finsler geometry. The observed anisotropy of the microwave background radiation is incorporated in the Finslerian structure of space-time. We also examine the electromagnetic (e.m.) field equations in our space. As a result a modified wave equation of e.m. waves yields.
