Statement from the American Linear Collider Committee to the P5 subpanel

This statement from the American Linear Collider Committee to the P5 subpanel has three purposes. It presents a brief summary of the case for an $e^+e^-$ Higgs factory that has emerged from Snowmass 2021. It highlights the special virtues of the ILC that are shared with other linear colliders but not with circular colliders. Finally, it calls attention to the resources available in the ILC White Paper for Snowmass (arXiv:2203.07622). The ALCC urges P5 to move the Higgs factory forward as a global project by assigning the idea of an $e^+e^-$ Higgs factory high priority, initiating a global discussion of the technology choice and cost sharing, and offering the option of siting the Higgs factory in the U.S.

A Run Scenario for the Linear Collider

We outline a run plan and examine the precision with which supersymmetric and Higgs parameters may be determined in 1000 inverse femtobarns of running at the nominal 500 GeV electron-positron linear collider, assuming the Snowmass benchmark mSUGRA point SM2 (similar to the SPS1 benchmark).

Linear Collider Workshop 2000 Summary

We summarize some of the main physics questions that will serve to define the linear e+e- collider program, and comment on issues that confront the world community in making such a collider a reality.

Search for the Top Quark: Results from the D-Zero Experiment

We review the search for the top quark conducted by the D-Zero collaboration using data from the Fermilab pbar-p collider. Based upon a preliminary analysis of an integrated luminosity of about 13.5 pb-1, we have searched for t-tbar production and decay in the experimental channels involving a pair of dileptons (electron or muon) plus jets, or single leptons plus jets. Summed over all channels, we observe 7 events in our data, to be compared with an expectation from background processes of 3.2 +/- 1.1 events. The t-tbar ~cross-section deduced from the small excess of events is presented as a function of the top quark mass. The statistics are sufficiently limited that no clear evidence for the existence of the top quark can be obtained. We also comment upon contributions to the Parallel session devoted to the top quark at this conference.
