A path model for Whittaker vectors

In this paper we construct weighted path models to compute Whittaker vectors in the completion of Verma modules, as well as Whittaker functions of fundamental type, for all finite-dimensional simple Lie algebras, affine Lie algebras, and the quantum algebra $U_q(\mathfrak{sl}_{r+1})$. This leads to series expressions for the Whittaker functions. We show how this construction leads directly to the quantum Toda equations satisfied by these functions, and to the $q$-difference equations in the quantum case. We investigate the critical limit of affine Whittaker functions computed in this way.

Arctic curves of the octahedron equation

We study the octahedron relation (also known as the $A_{\infty}$ $T$-system), obeyed in particular by the partition function for dimer coverings of the Aztec Diamond graph. For a suitable class of doubly periodic initial conditions, we find exact solutions with a particularly simple factorized form. For these, we show that the density function that measures the average dimer occupation of a face of the Aztec graph, obeys a system of linear recursion relations with periodic coefficients. This allows us to explore the thermodynamic limit of the corresponding dimer models and to derive exact "arctic" curves separating the various phases of the system.

The Non-Commutative $A_1$ $T$-system and its positive Laurent property

We define a non-commutative version of the $A_1$ T-system, which underlies frieze patterns of the integer plane. This system has discrete conserved quantities and has a particular reduction to the known non-commutative Q-system for $A_1$. We solve the system by generalizing the flat $GL_2$ connection method used in the commuting case to a 2$\times$2 flat matrix connection with non-commutative entries. This allows to prove the non-commutative positive Laurent phenomenon for the solutions when expressed in terms of admissible initial data. These are rephrased as partition functions of paths with non-commutative weights on networks, and alternatively of dimer configurations with non-commutative weights on ladder graphs made of chains of squares and hexagons.

T-systems, networks and dimers

We study the solutions of the T-system for type A, also known as the octahedron equation, viewed as a 2+1-dimensional discrete evolution equation. These may be expressed entirely in terms of the stepped surface over which the initial data are specified, via a suitably defined flat $GL_n$ connection which embodies the integrability of this infinite rank system. By interpreting the connection as the transfer operator for a directed graph or network with weighted edges, we show that the solution at a given point is expressed as the partition function for dimers on a bipartite graph dual to the "shadow" of the point onto the initial data stepped surface. We extend the result to the case of other geometries such as that of the evaporation of a cube corner crystal, and to a reformulation of the Kenyon-Pemantle discrete hexahedron equation.

An inhomogeneous Lambda-determinant

We introduce a multi-parameter generalization of the Lambda-determinant of Robbins and Rumsey, based on the cluster algebra with coefficients attached to a T-system recurrence. We express the result as a weighted sum over alternating sign matrices.

Q-systems, Heaps, Paths and Cluster Positivity

We consider the cluster algebra associated to the $Q$-system for $A_r$ as a tool for relating $Q$-system solutions to all possible sets of initial data. We show that the conserved quantities of the $Q$-system are partition functions for hard particles on particular target graphs with weights, which are determined by the choice of initial data. This allows us to interpret the simplest solutions of the Q-system as generating functions for Viennot's heaps on these target graphs, and equivalently as generating functions of weighted paths on suitable dual target graphs. The generating functions take the form of finite continued fractions. In this setting, the cluster mutations correspond to local rearrangements of the fractions which leave their final value unchanged. Finally, the general solutions of the $Q$-system are interpreted as partition functions for strongly non-intersecting families of lattice paths on target lattices. This expresses all cluster variables as manifestly positive Laurent polynomials of any initial data, thus proving the cluster positivity conjecture for the $A_r$ $Q$-system. We also give an alternative formulation in terms of domino tilings of deformed Aztec diamonds with defects.

The solution of the $A_r$ T-system for arbitrary boundary

We present an explicit solution of the $A_r$ $T$-system for arbitrary boundary conditions. For each boundary, this is done by constructing a network, i.e. a graph with positively weighted edges, and the solution is expressed as the partition function for a family of non-intersecting paths on the network. This proves in particular the positive Laurent property, namely that the solutions are all Laurent polynomials of the initial data with non-negative integer coefficients.

Discrete non-commutative integrability: the proof of a conjecture by M. Kontsevich

We prove a conjecture of Kontsevich regarding the solutions of rank two recursion relations for non-commutative variables which, in the commutative case, reduce to rank two cluster algebras of affine type. The conjecture states that solutions are positive Laurent polynomials in the initial cluster variables. We prove this by use of a non-commutative version of the path models which we used for the commutative case.

Positivity of the T-system cluster algebra

We give the path model solution for the cluster algebra variables of the $A_r$ $T$-system with generic boundary conditions. The solutions are partition functions of (strongly) non-intersecting paths on weighted graphs. The graphs are the same as those constructed for the $Q$-system in our earlier work, and depend on the seed or initial data in terms of which the solutions are given. The weights are "time-dependent" where "time" is the extra parameter which distinguishes the $T$-system from the $Q$-system, usually identified as the spectral parameter in the context of representation theory. The path model is alternatively described on a graph with non-commutative weights, and cluster mutations are interpreted as non-commutative continued fraction rearrangements. As a consequence, the solution is a positive Laurent polynomial of the seed data.

Blocked edges on Eulerian maps and mobiles: Application to spanning trees, hard particles and the Ising model

We introduce Eulerian maps with blocked edges as a general way to implement statistical matter models on random maps by a modification of intrinsic distances. We show how to code these dressed maps by means of mobiles, i.e. decorated trees with labeled vertices, leading to a closed system of recursion relations for their generating functions. We discuss particular solvable cases in detail, as well as various applications of our method to several statistical systems such as spanning trees on quadrangulations, mutually excluding particles on Eulerian triangulations or the Ising model on quadrangulations.

Proof of the combinatorial Kirillov-Reshetikhin conjecture

In this paper we give a direct proof of the equality of certain generating function associated with tensor product multiplicities of Kirillov-Reshetikhin modules for each simple Lie algebra g. Together with the theorems of Nakajima and Hernandez, this gives the proof of the combinatorial version of the Kirillov-Reshetikhin conjecture, which gives tensor product multiplicities in terms of restricted fermionic summations.

Correlation Functions of Harish-Chandra Integrals over the Orthogonal and the Symplectic Groups

The Harish-Chandra correlation functions, i.e. integrals over compact groups of invariant monomials prod tr{X^{p_1} Omega Y^{q_1} Omega^dagger X^{p_2} ... with the weight exp tr{X Omega Y Omega^dagger} are computed for the orthogonal and symplectic groups. We proceed in two steps. First, the integral over the compact group is recast into a Gaussian integral over strictly upper triangular complex matrices (with some additional symmetries), supplemented by a summation over the Weyl group. This result follows from the study of loop equations in an associated two-matrix integral and may be viewed as the adequate version of Duistermaat-Heckman's theorem for our correlation function integrals. Secondly, the Gaussian integration over triangular matrices is carried out and leads to compact determinantal expressions.

Quantum Knizhnik-Zamolodchikov equation: reflecting boundary conditions and combinatorics

We consider the level 1 solution of quantum Knizhnik-Zamolodchikov equation with reflecting boundary conditions which is relevant to the Temperley--Lieb model of loops on a strip. By use of integral formulae we prove conjectures relating it to the weighted enumeration of Cyclically Symmetric Transpose Complement Plane Partitions and related combinatorial objects.

Quantum Knizhnik-Zamolodchikov Equation, Totally Symmetric Self-Complementary Plane Partitions and Alternating Sign Matrices

We present multiresidue formulae for partial sums in the basis of link patterns of the polynomial solution to the level 1 U_q(\hat sl_2) quantum Knizhnik--Zamolodchikov equation at generic values of the quantum parameter q. These allow for rewriting and generalizing a recent conjecture [Di Francesco '06] connecting the above to generating polynomials for weighted Totally Symmetric Self-Complementary Plane Partitions. We reduce the corresponding conjectures to a single integral identity, yet to be proved.

Open boundary Quantum Knizhnik-Zamolodchikov equation and the weighted enumeration of Plane Partitions with symmetries

We propose new conjectures relating sum rules for the polynomial solution of the qKZ equation with open (reflecting) boundaries as a function of the quantum parameter $q$ and the $τ$-enumeration of Plane Partitions with specific symmetries, with $τ=-(q+q^{-1})$. We also find a conjectural relation à la Razumov-Stroganov between the $τ\to 0$ limit of the qKZ solution and refined numbers of Totally Symmetric Self Complementary Plane Partitions.

Around the Razumov-Stroganov conjecture: proof of a multi-parameter sum rule

We prove that the sum of entries of the suitably normalized groundstate vector of the O(1) loop model with periodic boundary conditions on a periodic strip of size 2n is equal to the total number of n x n alternating sign matrices. This is done by identifying the state sum of a multi-parameter inhomogeneous version of the O(1) model with the partition function of the inhomogeneous six-vertex model on a n x n square grid with domain wall boundary conditions.
