Constructive nonlocal games with very small classical values

There are few explicit examples of two player nonlocal games with a large gap between classical and quantum value. One of the reasons is that estimating the classical value is usually a hard computational task. This paper is devoted to analyzing classical values of the so-called linear games (generalization of XOR games to a larger number of outputs). We employ nontrivial results from graph theory and combine them with number theoretic results used earlier in the context of harmonic analysis to obtain a novel tool -- {\it the girth method} -- allowing to provide explicit examples of linear games with prescribed low classical value. In particular, we provide games with minimal possible classical value. We then speculate on the potential unbounded violation, by comparing the obtained classical values with a known upper bound for the quantum value. If this bound can be even asymptotically saturated, our games would have the best ratio of quantum to classical value as a function of the product of the number of inputs and outputs when compared to other explicit (i.e. non-random) constructions.

Broadened profiles of Diffuse Interstellar Bands

The paper describes profile broadening and peak wavelength variation of diffuse interstellar bands (DIBs) measured for 46 lines of sight, probably caused by physical properties of intervening clouds. Full width at half maximum of four studied diffuse bands (5780, 5797, 6196 and 6614 Å) demonstrate strong variability sometimes doubling the features' width. Despite the high magnitude of the effect, our current analysis is restricted to the strongest diffuse bands because the weaker ones require a much higher S/N ratio. The profile broadening in the studied DIBs moves the profile's centers towards longer wavelengths, probably due to the excitation of higher levels of the P branch of the unknown molecular carrier. Moreover, diffuse bands are broader in clouds with abundantly populated vibrationally excited states of the hydrogen molecules, i.e. DIB's broadening correlates with the rotational temperature estimated on H$_2$ $ν$=2 vibrational level. However, objects demonstrating extremely broadened profiles of DIBs are scarce. The extreme peculiarity of DIBs' profiles was detected in Herschel~36. Here we show the gradual growths of the widths of diffuse bands, confirmed in spectra from different instruments.

Keplerian rotation of our Galaxy?

It is common to attribute a flat rotation curve to our Galaxy. However Galazutdinov et al. (2015) in a recent paper have obtained a Keplerian rotation curve for interstellar clouds in outer parts of the Galaxy. They have calculated the distances from equivalent widths of interstellar CaII lines. The radial velocity was also measured on the interstellar CaII absorption line. We verify the result by Galazutdinov et al. (2015) basing on observations of old open clusters. We propose, that the observations of flat and Keplerian rotation curves may be caused by the assumption of circular orbits. The application of formulas derived with the assumption of circular orbits to elliptical ones may mimics the flat rotation curve. The interstellar clouds with cross-sections larger than stars may have almost circular orbits, and the derived rotation curve will be Keplerian.

Consistent system of oscillator strengths of A$^{2}Δ$ -- X$^{2}Π$ (0, 0) and B$^{2}Σ^{-}$ -- X$^{2}Π$ (0, 0) bands of CH molecule

Detailed analysis of intensity ratios of unsaturated methylidyne (CH) A--X and B--X bands suggests consistency of the recently published oscillator strengths of A$^{2}Δ$ -- X$^{2}Π$ (0, 0) -- 4300 Å and B$^{2}Σ^{-}$ -- X$^{2}Π$ (0, 0) -- (3878, 3886 and 3890 Å) bands (ie. 506, 107, 320 and 213$\times$10$^{-5}$ respectively). This result is based on extremely high S/N ratio spectra of 45 stars, acquired with three high-resolution spectrographs, situated in Chile: ESO LaSilla (HARPS), ESO Paranal (UVES) and Las Campanas (MIKE) and MAESTRO instrument situated in Northern Caucasus (Russia). The calculated methylidyne column densities, obtained using the consistent system of the oscillator strengths toward the observed targets, are given as well. We verify oscillator strengths of the CH+ A-X (0, 0) and (0, 1) bands at 4232 Å and 3957 Å equal to 545 and 342$\times$10$^{-5}$ respectively. We also confirm the lack of correlation between abundances of neutral CH and CH$^{+}$ which the fact demonstrates that they are originated in different environments.
