Carroll-Field-Jackiw term in nonlocal Lorentz-violating QED

We investigate the radiative generation of the Carroll--Field--Jackiw (CFJ) term in nonlocal Lorentz- and CPT-violating extensions of quantum electrodynamics. Nonlocality is introduced in the fermionic sector through entire form factors depending on the Dirac operator. Using the Fréchet and derivative expansions of the one-loop fermionic determinant, we derive the induced CFJ contribution and analyze its ultraviolet behavior after Wick rotation. For one class of form factors, the loop integrals are absolutely convergent at finite nonlocality scale $Λ$, without requiring an additional UV regulator. For another class of form factors, the CFJ coefficient is defined through an Abel regularization prescription. In both cases, the CFJ structure is preserved and its coefficient is continuously modulated by the ratio between the fermion mass and the nonlocality scale. Thus, nonlocality removes the routing-, surface-term-, and UV-evanescent ambiguities of the finite-$Λ$ loop amplitude, although UV convergence alone does not imply complete prescription independence of the finite functional determinant.

Nonlocal four-fermion theory

In this work, we formulate and analyze a nonlocal four-fermion theory in which the usual Dirac operator is deformed by an entire nonlocal form factor. After introducing an auxiliary scalar field, we derive the mean-field effective action and the corresponding gap equation for the dynamical mass. A central technical point of the analysis is that the nonlocal form factor is a matrix function of the Dirac operator, so the inverse propagator must be treated as an element of the closed algebra generated by the identity and $\not{\!p}$ operators, rather than as a purely scalar quantity. We obtain explicit expressions for the gap kernel for two representative choices of a form factor, $f_{I}(\not{\!\partial})=e^{-\not{\partial}/Λ}$ and $f_{II}(\not{\!\partial})=e^{-i\not{\partial}/Λ}$. Following the IR/UV matching method used in the recent Dirac-like nonlocal spinor theory [1], the momentum integral is split at an intermediate scale $M\ll Ω\ll Λ$, expanded analytically in the infrared and ultraviolet regions, and compared with the usual local NJL/Gross-Neveu result. We show that the hyperbolic form factor enhances the gap integral and lowers the critical coupling, whereas the oscillatory form factor suppresses it and raises the critical coupling. The finite-temperature and finite-density extension is formulated through Matsubara sums and a corrected contour representation, with the local thermal gap equation recovered in the limit $Λ\to\infty$.

Dual equivalence between the Maxwell-Chern-Simons theory and two self-dual massive models interacting with matter in $\mathcal{N}=2$, $d=3$ superspace

We investigate the $\mathcal{N} = 2$ supersymmetric generalization of the dual equivalence between the Maxwell-Chern-Simons model and two massive self-dual models. One of the self-dual models is described by a real scalar superfield, while the other is described by a chiral spinor superfield. The equivalence is analyzed in the presence of dynamical matter chiral superfields. Initially, we establish the duality by demonstrating the existence of master actions that interpolate between the models. We then show that the field equations are identical when the proper identifications are made. Finally, we confirm the dual equivalence by defining a master generating functional, which, after changing the variables, provides the generating functionals of the Maxwell-Chern-Simons model and the two massive self-dual models coupled to matter.

Gravitational lensing by $k-n$ generalized black-bounce space-times

We study gravitational lensing by $k-n$ generalized black-bounce space-times both in regimes of weak and strong field approximations. These metrics interpolate between regular black holes and one-way or traversable wormholes. First, we investigate the light-like geodesic trajectories and derive an analytical expression for the deflection angle in terms of the bounce parameter in the weak-field gravitational regime. We then turn to the strong-field gravitational regime and display the behavior of the bending angle as a function of both the impact parameter and the bounce parameter. Next, using the lens equations, we analyze how the observables for \textit{Sagittarius} A* behave concerning the bounce parameter. We obtain the shadow's radii for some black-bounce metrics and plot the graph of their sizes, comparing them with the Schwarzschild one.

One-loop corrections in Maxwell-metric-affine bumblebee gravity

In this paper, we consider the coupling of the metric-affine bumblebee gravity to the Abelian gauge field and obtain the effective model corresponding to the weak gravity limit of this theory. The effective bumblebee theory displays new unconventional couplings between the bumblebee field and its field strength, and the $U(1)$ gauge field along with its respective field strength, as a result of the non-metricity effects. Thus, being a new gauge-bumblebee theory, it represents an example of vector-vector couplings which are very rarely considered, if not entirely overlooked, in the Abelian case. For this theory we calculate the lower perturbative corrections. We close the paper with discussions of other possible vector-vector couplings.

On metric-affine bumblebee model coupled to scalar matter

We consider the coupling of the metric-affine bumblebee gravity model to scalar matter and calculate the lower-order contributions to two-point functions of bumblebee and scalar fields in the weak gravity approximation. We also obtain the one-loop effective potentials for both scalar and vector fields.

Gödel-type solutions within the $f(R,Q,P)$ gravity

In this work, we scrutinize the consistency of spacetime homogeneous Gödel-type metrics within $f(R,Q,P)$ theories of gravity for well-motivated matter sources. As it is well known, such geometries allow for causality violation. We provide general conditions to engender completely causal solutions in a manner completely different from general relativity. We take some specific models, for instance, $f(R,Q,P)=R -\dfrac{μ^{4n+2}}{\left(a R^2+b Q+c P\right)^n}$, to illustrate the general results. Notably, we also find an unusual completely causal vacuum solution in the presence of a non-trivial cosmological constant which corresponds to the case $m^2=4ω^2$.

Softly higher-derivative massive gravity

In this work, we study the higher-derivative massive gravity in $D$-dimensional space-time with the mass term arisen due to a 2-brane embedded in a $4D$ Minkowski spacetime. We consider the effect of a resonance mass term from the DGP braneworld model for the higher-derivative massive gravity. Moreover, we add the gravitational Chern-Simons and Ricci-Cotton terms to this model and evaluate the graviton propagator using a basis of Barnes-Rivers spin projectors. Using the obtained propagator, we proceed with discussing the consistency of the model, writing the dispersion relations, and analyzing causality and unitarity.

Spontaneous Lorentz symmetry breaking and one-loop effective action in the metric-affine bumblebee gravity

The metric-affine bumblebee model in the presence of fermionic matter minimally coupled to the connection is studied. We show that the model admits an Einstein frame representation in which the matter sector is described by a non-minimal Dirac action without any analogy in the literature. Such non-minimal terms involve unconventional couplings between the bumblebee and the fermion field. We then rewrite the quadratic fermion action in the Einstein frame in the basis of 16 Dirac matrices in order to identify the coefficients for Lorentz/CPT violation in all orders of the non-minimal coupling $ξ$. The exact result for the fermionic determinant in the Einstein frame, including all orders in $ξ$, is also provided. We demonstrate that the axial contributions are at least of second order in the perturbative expansion of $ξ$. Furthermore, we compute the one-loop effective potential within the weak field approximation.

Gravitational lensing in a black-bounce traversable wormhole spacetime

In this work, we calculate the deflection angle of light in a spacetime that interpolates between regular black holes and traversable wormholes, depending on the free parameter of the metric. Afterwards, this angular deflection is substituted into the lens equations which allows to obtain physically measurable results, such as the position of the relativistic images and the magnifications.

Global Monopole in Palatini f(R) gravity

We consider the space-time metric generated by a global monopole in an extension of General Relativity (GR) of the form $f(\mathcal{R})=\mathcal{R}-λ\mathcal{R}^2$. The theory is formulated in the metric-affine (or Palatini) formalism and exact analytical solutions are obtained. For $λ<0$, one finds that the solution has the same characteristics as the Schwarzschild black hole with a monopole charge in Einstein's GR. For $λ>0$, instead, the metric is more closely related to the Reissner-Nordström metric with a monopole charge and, in addition, it possesses a wormhole-like structure that allows for the geodesic completeness of the space-time. Our solution recovers the expected limits when $λ=0$ and also at the asymptotic far limit. The angular deflection of light in this spacetime in the weak field regime is also calculated.

Effective Potential in the 3D Massive 2-form Gauge Superfield Theory

In the $\mathcal{N}=1$, $d=3$ superspace, we propose a massive superfield theory formulated in terms of a spinor gauge superfield, whose component content includes a two-form field, and a real scalar matter superfield. For this model, we explicitly calculate the one-loop correction to the superfield effective potential. In particular, we show that the one-loop effective potential is independent the gauge-fixing parameters.

Spontaneous Symmetry Breaking in the Nonlocal Scalar QED

We investigate the spontaneous symmetry breaking in a nonlocal version of the scalar QED. When the mass parameter $m^2$ satisfies the requirement $m^2>0$, we find that all fields, including the Nambu-Goldstone field, acquire a non-zero mass dependent on the nonlocal scales. On the other hand, when $m^2=0$, we find that the nonlocal corrections to the masses are very small and can be neglected.

Traversable wormholes in Chern-Simons modified gravity

In this paper, we examine the existence of traversable wormhole solutions within the Chern-Simons modified gravity. We find a non-trivial solution in the theory with dynamical Chern-Simons coefficient in the absence of matter sources. This result displays a situation opposite to GR where the matter sources violating the energy conditions are required.

Gödel-type solutions within the f(R,Q) gravity

In this paper, we deal with the $f(R,Q)$ gravity whose action depends, besides of the scalar curvature $R$, on the higher-derivative invariant $Q=R_{μν}R^{μν}$. In order to compare this theory with the usual General Relativity (GR), we verify the consistency of Gödel-type solutions within the $f(R,Q)$ gravity and discuss the related causality issues. Explicitly, we show that in the $f(R,Q)$ gravity there are new Gödel-type completely causal solutions having no analogue in the general relativity. In particular, a remarkable Gödel-type solution corresponding to the conformally flat space and maximally symmetric for physically well-motivated matter sources, with no necessity of cosmological constant, has been considered. We demonstrate that, in contrast to GR framework, $f(R,Q)$ gravity supports new vacuum solutions with the requirement for the cosmological constant to be non-zero. Finally, causal solutions are obtained for a particular choice $f(R,Q)=R+αR^2+ βQ$.
