Quantum violation of entropic non-contextual inequality in four-dimension

Using joint Shannon entropy, we propose an inequality for a four-level system, which is satisfied in any non-contextual realist hidden variable model. We show that this entropic inequality is violated by quantum mechanics for a range of entangled, as well as product states. Our inequality can be experimentally tested using the existing technology.

Conserved Correlation in PT -symmetric Systems: Scattering and Bound States

For one-dimensional PT -symmetric systems, it is observed that the non-local product obtained from the continuity equation can be interpreted as a conserved corre- lation function. This leads to physical conclusions, regarding both discrete and continuum states of such systems. Asymptotic states are shown to have necessarily broken PT -symmetry, leading to modified scattering and transfer matrices. This yields restricted boundary conditions, e.g., in- cidence from both sides, analogous to that of the proposed PT CPA laser. The interpretation of left and right states leads to a Hermitian S-matrix, resulting in the non-conservation of the flux. This further satisfies a duality condition, identical to the optical analogues. However, the non-local conserved scalar implements alternate boundary conditions in terms of in and out states, leading to the pseudo-Hermiticity condition in terms of the scattering matrix. Interestingly, when PT -symmetry is preserved, it leads to stationary states with real energy, naturally inter- pretable as bound states. The broken PT -symmetric phase is also captured by this correlation, with complex-conjugate pair of energies, interpreted as resonances.

A proof of the nodal structure of the wave functions of supersymmetric partner potentials

Quantum Hamilton-Jacobi formalism is used to give a proof for Gozzi's criterion that for eigenstates of the supersymmetric partners, corresponding to same energy, the difference in the number of nodes is equal to one when supersymmetry (SUSY) is unbroken and is zero when SUSY is broken. We show that this proof is also applicable to the case, where isospectral deformation is involved.

Exceptional orthogonal polynomials, QHJ formalism and SWKB quantization condition

We study the quantum Hamilton-Jacobi (QHJ) equation of the recently obtained exactly solvable models, related to the newly discovered exceptional polynomials and show that the QHJ formalism reproduces the exact eigenvalues and the eigenfunctions. The fact that the eigenfunctions have zeros and poles in complex locations leads to an unconventional singularity structure of the quantum momentum function $p(x)$, the logarithmic derivative of the wave function, which forms the crux of the QHJ approach to quantization. A comparison of the singularity structure for these systems with the known exactly solvable and quasi-exactly solvable models reveals interesting differences. We find that the singularities of the momentum function for these new potentials lie between the above two distinct models, sharing similarities with both of them. This prompted us to examine the exactness of the supersymmetric WKB (SWKB) quantization condition. The interesting singularity structure of $p(x)$ and of the superpotential for these models has important consequences for the SWKB rule and in our proof of its exactness for these quantal systems.

New cross-phase modulated localized solitons in coupled atomic-molecular BEC

The interacting atom-molecule BEC (AMBEC) dynamics is investigated in the mean field ap- proach. The presence of atom-atom, atom-molecule and molecule-molecule interactions, coupled with a characteristically different interaction representing atom-molecule interconversion, endows this system with nonlinearities, which differ significantly from the standard Gross-Pitaevskii (GP) equation. Exact localized solutions are found to belong to two distinct classes. The first ones are analogous to the soliton solutions of the weakly coupled GP equation, whereas the second non- equivalent class is related to the solitons of the strongly coupled BEC. Distinct parameter domains characterize these solitons, some of which are analogous to the complex profile Bloch solitons in magnetic systems. These localized solutions are found to represent a variety of phenomena, which include co-existence of both atom-molecule complex and miscible-immiscible phases. Numerical sta- bility is explicitly checked, as also the stability analysis based on the study of quantum uctuations around our solutions. We also find out the domain of modulation instability in this system.

Grey solitons in doped nonlinear fibers

Grey solitons, with complex envelope, are obtained as exact solutions of the coupled system describing doped optical nonlinear fibers. The phase degree of freedom plays a crucial role in removing the restrictive equal frequency conditions on the tanh-sech paired pulses, identified earlier [1]. The cross-phase modulation is found to control the speed of the grey soliton, which has an upper bound. The coupled soliton solution obtained here was found to be stable in a wide parameter range.

Non-Standard Probabilistic Teleportation through Conventionally Non-Teleporting Channels

A non-standard teleportation scheme is proposed, wherein probabilistic teleportation is achieved in conventionally non-teleporting channels. We make use of entanglement monogamy to incorporate an unknown state in a multipartite entangled channel, such that the receiver partially gets disentangled from the network. Subsequently, the sender performs local measurement based teleportation protocol in an appropriate measurement basis, which results with the receiver in the possession of an unknown state, connected by local unitary transformation with the state to be teleported. This procedure succeeds in a number of cases, like that of W and other non-maximally entangled four qubit states, where the conventional measurement based approach has failed. It is also found that in certain four particle channels, the present procedure does not succeed, although the conventional one works well.

Gapped solitons and periodic excitations in strongly coupled BEC

It is found that localized solitons in the strongly coupled cigar shaped Bose-Einstein condensate form two distinct classes. The one without a background is an asymptotically vanishing, localized soliton, having a wave-number, which has a lower bound in magnitude. Periodic soliton trains exist only in the presence of a background, where the localized soliton has a \textit{W}-type density profile. This soliton is well suited for trapping of neutral atoms and is found to be stable under Vakhitov-Kolokolov criterion, as well as numerical evolution. We identify an insulating phase of this system in the presence of an optical lattice. It is demonstrated that the ${\it W}$-type density profile can be precisely controlled through trap dynamics.

Sub-Planck scale structures in the P{ö}schl-Teller potential and their sensitivity to perturbations

We find the existence of sub-Planck scale structures in the P{ö}schl-Teller potential, which is an exactly solvable potential with both symmetric and asymmetric features. We analyze these structures in both cases by looking at the Wigner distribution of the state evolved from an initial coherent state up to various fractional revival times. We also investigate the sensitivity to perturbations of the P{ö}schl-Teller potential and we verify that, similar to the harmonic oscillator, the presence of sub-Planck structure in phase space is responsible for a high sensitivity to phase-space displacements.

QHJ, WKB and exact quantisation

We present a simple derivation of the WKB quantisation condition using the quantum Hamilton-Jacobi formalism and propose an exact quantisation condition within this formalism for integrable models in higher dimensions.

An explicit realization of fractional statistics in one dimension

An explicit realization of anyons is provided, using the three-body Calogero model. The fact that in the coupling domain, $-1/4<g<0$, the angular spectrum can have a band structure, leads to the manifestation of the desired phase in the wave function, under the exchange of the paticles. Concurrently, the momentum corresponding to the angular variable is quantized, exactly akin to the relative angular momentum quantization in two dimensional anyonic system

Teleportation in the presence of common bath decoherence at the transmitting station

We investigate the effect of common bath decoherence on the qubits of Alice in the usual teleportation protocol. The system bath interaction is studied under the central spin model, where the qubits are coupled to the bath spins through isotropic Heisenberg interaction. We have given a more generalized representation of the protocol in terms of density matrices and calculated the average fidelity of the teleported state for different Bell state measurements performed by Alice. The common bath interaction differentiates the outcome of various Bell state measurements made by Alice. There will be a high fidelity teleportation for a singlet measurement made by Alice when both the qubits of Alice interact either ferromagnetically or antiferromagnetically with bath. In contrast if one of the Alice's qubits interact ferromagnetically and the other anti-ferromagnetically then measurement of Bell states belonging to the triplet sector will give better fidelity. We have also evaluated the average fidelity when Alice prefers non-maximally entangled states as her basis for measurement.

Construction of localized atomic wave packets

It is shown that highly localized solitons can be created in lower dimensional Bose-Einstein condensates (BEC), trapped in a regular harmonic trap, by temporally varying the trap frequency. A BEC trapped in such a trap can be effectively used to construct a pulsed atomic laser emitting coherent atomic wave packets. It is also shown that one has complete control over the spatio-temporal dynamics of the solitons. The dynamics of these solitons are compared with those constructed in a BEC where the trap frequency is constant.

Soliton response to transient trap variations

The response of bright and dark solitons to rapid variations in an expulsive longitudinal trap is investigated. We concentrate on the effect of transient changes in the trap frequency in the form of temporal delta kicks and the hyperbolic cotangent functions. Exact expressions are obtained for the soliton profiles. This is accomplished using the fact that a suitable linear Schrodinger stationary state solution in time can be effectively combined with the solutions of non-linear Schrodinger equation, for obtaining solutions of the Gross-Pitaevskii equation with time dependent scattering length in a harmonic trap. Interestingly, there is rapid pulse amplification in certain scenarios.

Mesoscopic superposition and sub-Planck-scale structure in molecular wave packets

We demonstrate the possibility of realizing sub-Planck-scale structures in the mesoscopic superposition of molecular wave packets involving vibrational levels. The time evolution of the wave packet, taken here as the SU(2) coherent state of the Morse potential describing hydrogen iodide molecules, produces macroscopicquantum- superposition-like states, responsible for the above phenomenon. We investigate the phase-space dynamics of the coherent state through the Wigner function approach and identify the interference phenomena behind the sub-Planck-scale structures. The optimal parameter ranges are specified for observing these features.

Coherent states of P{ö}schl-Teller potential and their revival dynamics

A recently developed algebraic approach for constructing coherent states for solvable potentials is used to obtain the displacement operator coherent state of the Pöschl-Teller potential. We establish the connection between this and the annihilation operator coherent state and compare their properties. We study the details of the revival structure arising from different time scales underlying the quadratic energy spectrum of this system.

Designing bound states in a band as a model for a quantum network

We provide a model of a one dimensional quantum network, in the framework of a lattice using Von Neumann and Wigner's idea of bound states in a continuum. The localized states acting as qubits are created by a controlled deformation of a periodic potential. These wave functions lie at the band edges and are defects in a lattice. We propose that these defect states, with atoms trapped in them, can be realized in an optical lattice and can act as a model for a quantum network.

Forecasting non-stationary financial time series through genetic algorithm

We utilize a recently developed genetic algorithm, in conjunction with discrete wavelets, for carrying out successful forecasts of the trend in financial time series, that includes the NASDAQ composite index. Discrete wavelets isolate the local, small scale variations in these non-stationary time series, after which the genetic algorithm's predictions are found to be quite accurate. The power law behavior in Fourier domain reveals an underlying self-affine dynamical behavior, well captured by the algorithm, in the form of an analytic equation. Remarkably, the same equation captures the trend of the Bombay stock exchange composite index quite well.
