How a projectively flat geometry regulates $F(R)$-gravity theory?

In the present paper we examine a projectively flat spacetime solution of $F(R)$-gravity theory. It is seen that once we deploy projective flatness in the geometry of the spacetime, the matter field has constant energy density and isotropic pressure. We then make the condition weaker and discuss the effects of projectively harmonic spacetime geometry in $F(R)$-gravity theory and show that the spacetime in this case reduces to a generalised Robertson-Walker spacetime with a shear, vorticity, acceleration free perfect fluid with a specific form of expansion scalar presented in terms of the scale factor. Role of conharmonic curvature tensor in the spacetime geometry is also briefly discussed. Some analysis of the obtained results are conducted in terms of couple of $F(R)$-gravity models.

Bulk viscous matter and the cosmic acceleration of the universe in $f(Q,T)$ gravity

We have studied bulk viscosity in the modified $f(Q, T)$ gravity theory formalism, where $Q$ represents the non-metricity and $T$ denotes the trace of energy-momentum tensor within a flat Friedmann-Lemaître-Robertson-Walker metric (FLRW). Here, we have explicitly considered the effective equation of state, which includes a bulk viscosity term, and obtained the exact solutions by assuming a specific form of $f(Q, T)=αQ+βT$, where $α$ and $β$ are constants. Furthermore, we have found constraints on the model parameters with some external datasets, such as the revised Hubble datasets consisting of 57 data points, Baryon acoustic oscillations (BAO) datasets, and the newly published Pantheon samples with 1048 points to obtain the best fitting values of the model parameters. The obtained model is found to be in good agreement with observations. In addition, we have analyzed the cosmological behavior of the density parameter, the equation of state (EoS) parameter ($ω$), and the deceleration parameter ($q$). The results are satisfying to the standard scenario of recent findings of cosmology. The universe appears to be evolving from a decelerated to an accelerated phase. The EoS parameter is further in the quintessence phase, indicating that the universe is accelerating. Finally, we can deduce that the accumulation of bulk viscosity as effective dark energy supports the current accelerated expansion of the universe.

Power-law cosmology in Weyl-type $f(Q,T)$ gravity

Gravity is attributed to the spacetime curvature in classical General Relativity (GR). But, other equivalent formulation or representations of GR, such as torsion or non-metricity have altered the perception. We consider the Weyl-type $f(Q, T)$ gravity, where $Q$ represents the non-metricity and $T$ is the trace of energy momentum temsor, in which the vector field $ω_μ$ determines the non-metricity $Q_{μνα}$ of the spacetime. In this work, we employ the well-motivated $f(Q, T)= αQ+ \fracβ{6k^{2}} T$, where $α$ and $β$ are the model parameters. Furthermore, we assume that the universe is dominated by the pressure-free matter, i.e. the case of dust ($p=0$). We obtain the solution of field equations similar to a power-law in Hubble parameter $H(z)$. We investigate the cosmological implications of the model by constraining the model parameter $α$ and $β$ using the recent 57 points Hubble data and 1048 points Pantheon supernovae data. To study various dark energy models, we use statefinder analysis to address the current cosmic acceleration. We also observe the $Om$ diagnostic describing various phases of the universe. Finally, it is seen that the solution which mimics the power-law fits well with the Pantheon data better than the Hubble data.

Wormhole solutions in symmetric teleparallel gravity

In this letter we obtain wormhole solutions from the Karmarkar condition in $f(Q)$ gravity formalism, in which $Q$ is the nonmetricity scalar. We show that the combination of such ingredients provides us the possibility of obtaining traversable wormholes satisfying the energy conditions. Our results contribute to $f(Q)$ gravity ascension, that was recently ignited by the natural prediction of early and late-time stages of universe expansion acceleration in the formalism.

A complete study of conformally flat pseudo-symmetric spacetimes in the theory of F(R)-gravity

We investigate the geometrical and physical structures of a pseudo-symmetric spacetime $(PS)_4$ with timelike vector under the condition of conformal flatness. We classify it into two possible types: constant Ricci scalar and closed velocity vector. We further study this spacetime as a solution of $F(R)$-gravity theory and show that the pressure and energy density of the effective cosmological perfect fluid separately possess certain typical relations with the geometry and the gravity sector of the theory. Based on this result, some observational and cosmological analyses are done for the $F(R)$-gravity model and the energy conditions are investigated, supporting the accelerated expansion of the universe.

How a conformally flat (GR)4 impacts Gauss-Bonnet gravity?

First and foremost, we show that a 4-dimensional conformally flat generalized Ricci recurrent spacetime $(GR)_4$ is an Einstein manifold. We examine such a spacetime as a solution of $f(R, G)$-gravity theory and it is shown that the additional terms from the modification of the gravitational sector can be expressed as a perfect fluid. Several energy conditions are investigated with $f(R, G) = R +\sqrt{G}$ and $f(R, G) = R^2+GlnG$. For both the models, weak, null and dominant energy conditions are satisfied while strong energy condition is violated, which is a good agreement with the recent observational studies which reveals that the current universe is in accelerating phase.

Traversable wormholes in the traceless $f(R,T)$ gravity

We present a traversable wormhole solution using the traceless $f(R,T)$ theory of gravity. In the $f(R,T)$ gravity, the Ricci scalar $R$ in the Einstein-Hilbert action is replaced by a function of $R$ and trace of the energy momentum tensor $T$. The traceless version of the $f(R,T)$ gravity gives rise to a possible wormhole geometry without need for "exotic matter", which violates the principle of causality. Using a physically plausible ansatz for the wormhole's shape function, the traceless field equations lead to compliance with the weak energy condition at very well defined intervals of the coupling constant $λ$ in the $f(R,T)=R+2λT$ form. Our solution leads to other well-behaved energy conditions considering some possible values of the parameter $ω$ in the equation of state $p_r=ωρ$, with $p_r$ being the radial pressure and $ρ$ the density. The energy conditions are obeyed in the ranges $λ< -4π$ and $ω> -1$. Through the calculation of the Volume Integral Quantifier, one sees that this wormholes can be traversable and respect the causality, since the amount of exotic matter in its interior can be arbitrarily small.

Cosmological bouncing scenarios in symmetric teleparallel gravity

Symmetric Teleparallel Gravity is an exceptional theory of gravity that is consistent with the vanishing affine connection. This theory is an alternative and a simpler geometrical formulation of general relativity, where the non-metricity $Q$ drives the gravitational interaction. Our interest lies in exploring the cosmological bouncing scenarios in a flat Friedmann-Limaître-Robertson-Walker (FLRW) spacetime within this framework. We explore bouncing scenarios with two different Lagrangian forms of $f(Q)$ such as a linearly and non-linearly dependence on $Q$. We have successfully examined all the energy conditions and stability analysis for both models to present a matter bounce.

Constraining effective equation of state in $f(Q,T)$ gravity

New high-precision observations are now possible to constrain different gravity theories. To examine the accelerated expansion of the Universe, we used the newly proposed $f(Q,T)$ gravity, where $Q$ is the non-metricity, and $T$ is the trace of the energy-momentum tensor. The investigation is carried out using a parameterized effective equation of state with two parameters, $m$ and $n$. We have also considered the linear form of $f(Q,T)= Q+bT$, where $b$ is constant. By constraining the model with the recently published 1048 Pantheon sample, we were able to find the best fitting values for the parameters $b$, $m$, and $n$. The model appears to be in good agreement with the observations. Finally, we analyzed the behavior of the deceleration parameter and equation of state parameter. The results support the feasibility of $f(Q,T)$ as a promising theory of gravity, illuminating a new direction towards explaining the Universe's dark sector.

Cosmic acceleration with bulk viscosity in modified $f(Q)$ gravity

In this article, we have investigated the role of bulk viscosity to study the accelerated expansion of the universe in the framework of modified $f(Q)$ gravity. The gravitational action in this modified gravity theory has the form $f(Q)$, where $Q$ denote the non-metricity scalar. In the present manuscript, we have considered a bulk viscous matter-dominated cosmological model with the bulk viscosity coefficient of the form $ξ=ξ_{0}+ξ_{1}H+ξ_{2}\left( \frac{\dot{H}}{H}+H\right) $ which is proportional to the velocity and acceleration of the expanding universe. Two sets of limiting conditions on the bulk viscous parameters $ξ_{0},$ $ξ_{1},$ $% ξ_{2}$ and model parameter $α$ arose here out of which one condition favours the present scenario of cosmic acceleration with a phase transition and corresponds to the universe with a Big Bang origin. Moreover, we have discussed the cosmological behaviour of some geometrical parameters. Then, we have obtained the best fitting values of the model parameters $ξ_{0},$ $ξ_{1},$ $ξ_{2}$ and $α$ by constraining our model with updated Hubble datasets consisting of $57$ data points and recently released Pantheon datasets consisting of $1048$ data points which show that our obtained model has good compatibility with observations. Further, we have also included the Baryon Acoustic Oscillation (BAO) datasets of six data points with the Hubble \& Pantheon datasets and obtained slightly different values of the model parameters. Finally, we have analyzed our model with the statefinder diagnostic analysis and found some interesting results and are discussed in details.

Traversable wormhole geometries in $f(Q)$ gravity

The current interests in the universe motivate us to go beyond Einstein's General theory of relativity. One of the interesting proposals comes from a new class of teleparallel gravity named symmetric teleparallel gravity, i.e., $f(Q)$ gravity, where the non-metricity term $Q$ is accountable for fundamental interaction. These alternative modified theories of gravity's vital role are to deal with the recent interests and to present a realistic cosmological model. This manuscript's main objective is to study the traversable wormhole geometries in $f(Q)$ gravity. We construct the wormhole geometries for three cases: (i) by assuming a relation between the radial and lateral pressure, (ii) considering phantom energy equation of state (EoS), and (iii) for a specific shape function in the fundamental interaction of gravity (i.e. for linear form of $f(Q)$). Besides, we discuss two wormhole geometries for a general case of $f(Q)$ with two specific shape functions. Then, we discuss the viability of shape functions and the stability analysis of the wormhole solutions for each case. We have found that the null energy condition (NEC) violates each wormhole model which concluded that our outcomes are realistic and stable. Finally, we discuss the embedding diagrams and volume integral quantifier to have a complete view of wormhole geometries.

Late-time acceleration with a scalar field source: Observational constraints and statefinder diagnostics

This article discusses a dark energy cosmological model in the standard theory of gravity - general relativity with a broad scalar field as a source. Exact solutions of Einstein's field equations are derived by considering a particular form of deceleration parameter $q$, which shows a smooth transition from decelerated to accelerated phase in the evolution of the universe. The external datasets such as Hubble ($H(z)$) datasets, Supernovae (SN) datasets, and Baryonic Acoustic Oscillation (BAO) datasets are used for constraining the model par parameters appearing in the functional form of $q$. The transition redshift is obtained at $% z_{t}=0.67_{-0.36}^{+0.26}$ for the combined data set ($H(z)+SN+BAO$), where the model shows signature-flipping and is consistent with recent observations. Moreover, the present value of the deceleration parameter comes out to be $q_{0}=-0.50_{-0.11}^{+0.12}$ and the jerk parameter $% j_{0}=-0.98_{-0.02}^{+0.06}$ (close to 1) for the combined datasets, which is compatible as per Planck2018 results. The analysis also constrains the omega value i.e., $Ω_{m_{0}}\leq 0.269$ for the smooth evolution of the scalar field EoS parameter. It is seen that energy density is higher for the effective energy density of the matter field than energy density in the presence of a scalar field. The evolution of the physical and geometrical parameters is discussed in some details with the model parameters' numerical constrained values. Moreover, we have performed the state-finder analysis to investigate the nature of dark energy.

A Conformally Flat Generalized Ricci Recurrent Spacetime in F(R)-Gravity

In the present paper we study a conformally flat generalized Ricci recurrent perfect fluid spacetime with constant Ricci scalar as a solution of modified $F(R)$-gravity theory. We show that a Robertson-Walker spacetime is generalized Ricci Recurrent if and only if it is Ricci symmetric. The perfect fluid type matter is shown to have EoS $ω=-1$. Some energy conditions are analyzed with couple of popular toy models of $F(R)$-gravity, like $F(R)= R+αR^m $ where $α, m$ are constants and $ F(R)=R+βRlnR $ where $β$ is constant. In harmony with the recent observational studies of accelerated expansion of the universe, both cases exhibit that the null, weak, and dominant energy conditions fulfill their requirements whereas the strong energy condition is violated.

Energy conditions for a $(WRS)_4$ spacetime in $F(R)$-gravity

The objective of the present paper is to study 4-dimensional weakly Ricci symmetric spacetimes $(WRS)_4$ with non-zero constant Ricci scalar. We prove that such a $(WRS)_4$ satisfying $F(R)$-gravity field equations represents a perfect fluid with vanishing vorticity. Some energy conditions are studied under the current setting to constrain the functional form of $F(R)$. We examine a couple of popular toy models in $F(R)$-gravity, $F(R)=e^{αR}$ where $α$ is constant and $F(R)=R-β\tanh(R)$, $β$ is a constant. We also find that the equation of state parameter (EoS) in both models supports the universe's accelerating behavior, i.e., $ω=-1$. According to the recently suggested observations of accelerated expansion, both cases define that the null, weak, and dominant energy conditions justify their requirements while the strong energy conditions violate them.

Constraining $f(Q,T)$ gravity from energy conditions

We are living in a golden age for experimental cosmology. New experiments with high accuracy precision are been used to constrain proposals of several theories of gravity, as it has been never done before. However, important roles to constrain new theories of gravity in a theoretical perspective are the energy conditions. Throughout this work, we carefully constrained some free parameters of two different families of $f(Q,T)$ gravity using different energy conditions. This theory of gravity combines the gravitation effects through the non-metricity scalar function $Q$, and manifestations from the quantum era of the Universe in the classical theory (due to the presence of the trace of the energy-momentum tensor $T$). Our investigation unveils the viability of $f(Q,T)$ gravity to describe the accelerated expansion our Universe passes through. Besides, one of our models naturally provides a phantom regime for dark energy and satisfies the dominant energy condition. The results here derived strength the viability of $f(Q,T)$ as a promising complete theory of gravity, lighting a new path towards the description of the dark sector of the Universe.

On The Temporal Evolution of Particle Production in $f(T)$ Gravity

The thermodynamical study of the universe allow particle production in modified $f(T)$ ($T$ is the torsion scalar) theory of gravity within a flat FLRW framework for line element. The torsion scalar $T$ plays the same role as the Ricci scalar $R$ in the modified theories of gravity. We derived the $f(T)$ gravity models by taking $f(T)$ as the sum of $T$ and an arbitrary function of $T$ with three different arbitrary function. We observe that the particle production describes the accelerated expansion of the universe without a cosmological constant or any unknown "quintessence" component. Also, we discussed the supplementary pressure, particle number density and particle production rate for three cases.

Cosmography in $f(Q)$ gravity

Cosmography is an ideal tool to investigate the cosmic expansion history of the Universe in a model-independent way. The equations of motion in modified theories of gravity are usually very complicated; cosmography may select practical models without imposing arbitrary choices a priori. We use the model-independent way to derive $f(z)$ and its derivatives up to fourth order in terms of measurable cosmographic parameters. We then fit those functions into the luminosity distance directly. We perform the MCMC analysis by considering three different sets of cosmographic functions. Using the largest supernovae Ia Pantheon sample, we derive the constraints on the Hubble constant $H_0$ and the cosmographic functions, and find that the former two terms in Taylor expansion of luminosity distance work dominantly in $f(Q)$ gravity.

Wide field of view crystal orientation mapping of layered materials

Layered materials (LMs) are at the centre of an ever increasing research effort due to their potential use in a variety of applications. The presence of imperfections, such as bi- or multilayer areas, holes, grain boundaries, isotropic and anisotropic deformations, etc. are detrimental for most (opto)electronic applications. Here, we present a set-up able to transform a conventional scanning electron microscope into a tool for structural analysis of a wide range of LMs. An hybrid pixel electron detector below the sample makes it possible to record two dimensional (2d) diffraction patterns for every probe position on the sample surface (2d), in transmission mode, thus performing a 2d+2d=4d STEM (scanning transmission electron microscopy) analysis. This offers a field of view up to 2 mm2, while providing spatial resolution in the nm range, enabling the collection of statistical data on grain size, relative orientation angle, bilayer stacking, strain, etc. which can be mined through automated open-source data analysis software. We demonstrate this approach by analyzing a variety of LMs, such as mono- and multi-layer graphene, graphene oxide and MoS2, showing the ability of this method to characterize them in the tens of nm to mm scale. This wide field of view range and the resulting statistical information are key for large scale applications of LMs.
