BRST Lagrangian construction for spin-2 field in Einstein space

We explore a new possibility of BRST construction in higher spin field theory to obtain a consistent Lagrangian for massive spin-2 field in Einstein space. Such approach automatically leads to gauge invariant Lagrangian with suitable auxiliary and Stuckelberg fields. It is proved that in this case a propagation of spin-2 field is hyperbolic and causal. Also we extend notion of partial masslessness for spin-2 field in the background under consideration.

BRST structure of non-linear superalgebras

In this paper we analyse the structure of the BRST charge of nonlinear superalgebras. We consider quadratic non-linear superalgebras where a commutator (in terms of (super) Poisson brackets) of the generators is a quadratic polynomial of the generators. We find the explicit form of the BRST charge up to cubic order in Faddeev-Popov ghost fields for arbitrary quadratic nonlinear superalgebras. We point out the existence of constraints on structure constants of the superalgebra when the nilpotent BRST charge is quadratic in Faddeev-Popov ghost fields. The general results are illustrated by simple examples of superalgebras.

Even and odd geometries on supermanifolds

We analyze from a general perspective all possible supersymmetric generalizations of symplectic and metric structures on smooth manifolds. There are two different types of structures according to the even/odd character of the corresponding quadratic tensors. In general we can have even/odd symplectic supermanifolds, Fedosov supermanifolds and Riemannian supermanifolds. The geometry of even Fedosov supermanifolds is strongly constrained and has to be flat. In the odd case, the scalar curvature is only constrained by Bianchi identities. However, we show that odd Riemannian supermanifolds can only have constant scalar curvature. We also point out that the supersymmetric generalizations of AdS space do not exist in the odd case.

Symplectic geometries on supermanifolds

Extension of symplectic geometry on manifolds to the supersymmetric case is considered. In the even case it leads to the even symplectic geometry (or, equivalently, to the geometry on supermanifolds endowed with a non-degenerate Poisson bracket) or to the geometry on an even Fedosov supermanifolds. It is proven that in the odd case there are two different scalar symplectic structures (namely, an odd closed differential 2-form and the antibracket) which can be used for construction of symplectic geometries on supermanifolds.

Fedosov and Riemannian supermanifolds

Generalizations of symplectic and metric structures for supermanifolds are analyzed. Two types of structures are possible according to the even/odd character of the corresponding quadratic tensors. In the even case one has a very rich set of geometric structures: even symplectic supermanifolds (or, equivalently, supermanifolds with non-degenerate Poisson structures), even Fedosov supermanifolds and even Riemannian supermanifolds. The existence of relations among those structures is analyzed in some details. In the odd case, we show that odd Riemannian and Fedosov supermanifolds are characterized by a scalar curvature tensor. However, odd Riemannian supermanifolds can only have constant curvature.

BRST charge for nonlinear algebras

We study the construction of the classical nilpotent canonical BRST charge for the nonlinear gauge algebras where a commutator (in terms of Poisson brackets) of the constraints is a finite order polynomial of the constraints.

Classical BRST charge for nonlinear algebras

We study the construction of the classical nilpotent canonical BRST charge for the nonlinear gauge algebras where a commutator (in terms of Poisson brackets) of the constraints is a finite order polynomial of the constraints. Such a polynomial is characterized by the coefficients forming a set of higher order structure constraints. Assuming the set of constraints to be linearly independent, we find the restrictions on the structure constraints when the nilpotent BRST charge can be written in a simple and universal form. In the case of quadratically nonlinear algebras we find the expression for third order contribution in the ghost fields to the BRST charge without the use of any additional restrictions on the structure constants.

Gauge invariant Lagrangian formulation of higher spin massive bosonic field theory in AdS space

We develop the BRST approach to Lagrangian construction for the massive integer higher spin fields in an arbitrary dimensional AdS space. The theory is formulated in terms of auxiliary Fock space. Closed nonlinear symmetry algebra of higher spin bosonic theory in AdS space is found and method of deriving the BRST operator for such an algebra is proposed. General procedure of Lagrangian construction describing the dynamics of bosonic field with any spin is given on the base of the BRST operator. No off-shell constraints on the fields and the gauge parameters are used from the very beginning. As an example of general procedure, we derive the Lagrangians for massive bosonic fields with spin 0, 1 and 2 containing total set of auxiliary fields and gauge symmetries.

Higher order relations in Fedosov supermanifolds

Higher order relations existing in normal coordinates between affine extensions of the curvature tensor and basic objects for any Fedosov supermanifolds are derived. Representation of these relations in general coordinates is discussed.

Basic properties of Fedosov supermanifolds

Basic properties of even (odd) supermanifolds endowed with a connection respecting a given symplectic structure are studied. Such supermanifolds can be considered as generalization of Fedosov manifolds to the supersymmetric case.

Modified triplectic quantization in general coordinates

We present an extension of previous results (hep-th/0105215)on the quantization of general gauge theories within the BRST-antBRST invatiant Lagrangian scheme in general coordinates, namely, we consider the case when the base manifold of fields and antifields is a supermanifold desribed in terms of both bosonic and fermionic variables.

Generalized Superfield Lagrangian Quantization

We consider an extension of the gauge-fixing procedure in the framework of the Lagrangian superfield BRST and BRST-antiBRST quantization schemes for arbitrary gauge theories, taking into account the possible ambiguity in the choice of the superfield antibracket. We show that this ambiguity is fixed by the algebraic properties of the antibracket and the form of the BRST and antiBRST transformations, realized in terms of superspace translations. The Ward identities related to the generalized gauge-fixing procedure are obtained.

On Problems of the Lagrangian Quantization of W3-gravity

We consider the two-dimensional model of W3-gravity within Lagrangian quantization methods for general gauge theories. We use the Batalin-Vilkovisky formalism to study the arbitrariness in the realization of the gauge algebra. We obtain a one-parametric non-analytic extension of the gauge algebra, and a corresponding solution of the classical master equation, related via an anticanonical transformation to a solution corresponding to an analytic realization. We investigate the possibility of closed solutions of the classical master equation in the Sp(2)-covariant formalism and show that such solutions do not exist in the approximation up to the third order in ghost and auxiliary fields.

A Superfield Formalism of osp(1,2) Covariant Quantization

We propose a superfield description of osp(1,2) covariant quantization by extending the set of admissibility conditions for the quantum action. We realize a superfield form of the generating equations, specify the vacuum functional and obtain the corresponding transformations of extended BRST symmetry.

Superfield Lagrangian Quantization with Extended BRST Symmetry

We consider possible superfield representations of extended BRST symmetry for general gauge theories within the principle of gauge-fixing based on a generating equation for the gauge functional. We examine admissible superfield choices for an extended antibracket and delta-operator with given algebraic properties and show that only one of these choices is compatible with the requirement of extended BRST symmetry realized in terms of supertranslations along Grassmann coordinates. We demonstrate that this realization leads to the gauge-independence of the S-matrix.
