Extended thermodynamics and $P-v$ Criticality of Kalb-Ramond black hole coupled with nonlinear electrodynamics

We present an exact black hole solution in anti-de Sitter (AdS) spacetime with a Kalb-Ramond field coupled to nonlinear electrodynamics (NLED), characterized by mass, magnetic monopole charge, and Lorentz-violating parameters. The geometry admits two horizons (inner and outer) that coalesce into a degenerate horizon at a critical monopole charge. Beyond this critical point, no black hole solutions exist. In the limit of vanishing Lorentz-violating parameters, the solution reduces to the modified Kalb-Ramond and Bardeen black holes, while suitable parameter choices reproduce the Reissner-Nordstr\"om-AdS and Schwarzschild-AdS geometries. We analyze the thermodynamics of the solution by computing the Hawking temperature, entropy, specific heat, and Gibbs free energy. The NLED source introduces nontrivial modifications: the Hawking temperature displays nonmonotonic behavior with possible local extrema, the entropy deviates from the standard area law, and the specific heat may assume negative values, signaling thermodynamic instabilities. The Gibbs free energy exhibits swallow-tail structures, indicative of first-order phase transitions. Furthermore, we derive the first law of black hole thermodynamics in the extended phase space, together with the Smarr relation, and confirm their validity for the Kalb-Ramond black holes with NLED sources. Our findings highlight the rich thermodynamic structure induced by Lorentz-violating effects and nonlinear electrodynamics in AdS black hole backgrounds.

Non-singular flat universes in braneworld and Loop Quantum Cosmology

In this paper we take matter source with non-linear Equation of state (EoS) that has produced non-singular Emergent cosmology for spatially flat universe in General Relativity and minimally coupled scalar field with two different potentials that produce an inflationary emergent universe for positive spatial curvature in the relativistic context. We study all these three cases both in the context of Randall-Sundrum braneworld and effective Loop quantum cosmology (LQC) for zero spatial curvature that is observationally favoured and in the absence of any effective cosmological constant term. We solve the modified Friedmann equation in each case to obtain the time evolution of the scale factor and use it to check whether the initial singularity can be averted. In almost all the cases we find the initial singularity is absent. We study the nature of the slow roll inflation in the cases where we obtain inflationary emergent universes. The inflationary scenario is found to be improved than in a standard relatvistic context and we compare the improved scenario for both the braneworld and LQC models. Interestingly, we also obtain bouncing and cyclic universes from our analysis in some cases. We find that the initial singularity can be averted for a spatially flat universe with specific choice of matter EoS or scalar field potential, which do not violate the Null Energy condition in most cases, taking into account effective high energy (curvature) corrections with or without extra dimensions.

The T2K ND280 Off-Axis Pi-Zero Detector

The Pi-Zero detector (PØD) is one of the subdetectors that makes up the off-axis near detector for the Tokai-to-Kamioka (T2K) long baseline neutrino experiment. The primary goal for the PØD is to measure the relevant cross sections for neutrino interactions that generate pi-zero's, especially the cross section for neutral current pi-zero interactions, which are one of the dominant sources of background to the electron neutrino appearance signal in T2K. The PØD is composed of layers of plastic scintillator alternating with water bags and brass sheets or lead sheets and is one of the first detectors to use Multi-Pixel Photon Counters (MPPCs) on a large scale.

SPI energy calibration

The status of the SPI energy calibration after the first year of INTEGRAL operations is reported. We have studied the gain variations and we have demonstrated that the most important parameter is the germanium detector temperature. This study permits us to determine the limits of our calibration method and the frequency of calibrations needed.

Calibration of the Spectrometer aboard the INTEGRAL satellite

SPI, the Spectrometer on board the ESA INTEGRAL satellite, to be launched in October 2002, will study the gamma-ray sky in the 20 keV to 8 MeV energy band with a spectral resolution of 2 keV for photons of 1 MeV, thanks to its 19 germanium detectors spanning an active area of 500 cm2. A coded mask imaging technique provides a 2 deg angular resolution. The 16 deg field of view is defined by an active BGO veto shield, furthermore used for background rejection. In April 2001 the flight model of SPI underwent a one-month calibration campaign at CEA in Bruyères le Châtel using low intensity radioactive sources and the CEA accelerator for homogeneity measurements and high intensity radioactive sources for imaging performance measurements. After integration of all scientific payloads (the spectrometer SPI, the imager IBIS and the monitors JEM-X and OMC) on the INTEGRAL satellite, a cross-calibration campaign has been performed at the ESA center in Noordwijk. A set of sources has been placed in the field of view of the different instruments in order to compare their performances and determine their mutual influence. Some of those sources had already been used in Bruyères during the SPI standalone test. For the lowest energy band calibration an X-ray generator has been used. We report on the scientific goals of this calibration activity, and present the measurements performed as well as some preliminary results.

Directed flow of antiprotons in Au+Au collisions at AGS

Directed flow of antiprotons is studied in Au+Au collisions at a beam momentum of 11.5A GeV/c. It is shown that antiproton directed flow is anti-correlated to proton flow. The measured transverse momentum dependence of the antiproton flow is compared with predictions of the RQMD event generator.

Directed Flow of Light Nuclei in Au+Au Collisions at AGS Energies

Directed flow of deuterons, tritons, $^3$He, and $^4$He is studied in Au+Au collisions at a beam momentum of about 10.8 $A$ GeV/c. Flow of all particles is analyzed as a function of transverse momentum for different centralities of the collision. The directed flow signal, $v_1(p_t)$, is found to increase with particle mass. This mass dependence is strongest in the projectile rapidity region.
