Born renormalization in classical Maxwell electrodynamics

We define and compute the renormalized four-momentum of the composed physical system: classical Maxwell field interacting with charged point particles. As a `reference' configuration for the field surrounding the particle, we take the Born solution. Unlike in the previous approach [Gen. Relat. Grav. 26 (1994) 167; Acta Phys. Pol. A 85 (1994) 771; Commun. Math. Phys. 198 (1998), 711], based on the Coulomb `reference', a dependence of the four-momentum of the particle (`dressed' with the Born solution) upon its acceleration arises in a natural way. This will change the resulting equations of motion. Similarly, we treat the angular momentum tensor of the system.

Introduction to quantum groups

We give an elementary introduction to the theory of algebraic and topological quantum groups (in the spirit of S. L. Woronowicz). In particular, we recall the basic facts from Hopf (*-) algebra theory, theory of compact (matrix) quantum groups and the theory of their actions on compact quantum spaces. We also provide the most important examples, including the classification of quantum SL(2)-groups, their real forms and quantum spheres. We also consider quantum SL_q(N)-groups and quantum Lorentz groups.

On the structure of inhomogeneous quantum groups

We investigate inhomogeneous quantum groups G built from a quantum group H and translations. The corresponding commutation relations contain inhomogeneous terms. Under certain conditions (which are satisfied in our study of quantum Poincare groups [12]) we prove that our construction has correct `size', find the R-matrices and the analogues of Minkowski space for G.

On representation theory of quantum $SL_q(2)$ groups at roots of unity

Irreducible representations of quantum groups $SL_q(2)$ (in Woronowicz' approach) were classified in J.Wang, B.Parshall, Memoirs AMS 439 in the~case of $q$ being an~odd root of unity. Here we find the~irreducible representations for all roots of unity (also of an~even degree), as well as describe "the~diagonal part" of tensor product of any two irreducible representations. An~example of not completely reducible representation is given. Non--existence of Haar functional is proved. The~corresponding representations of universal enveloping algebras of Jimbo and Lusztig are provided. We also recall the~case of general~$q$. Our computations are done in explicit way.

Solutions of Klein--Gordon and Dirac equations on quantum Minkowski spaces

Covariant differential calculi and exterior algebras on quantum homogeneous spaces endowed with the action of inhomogeneous quantum groups are classified. In the case of quantum Minkowski spaces they have the same dimensions as in the classical case. Formal solutions of the corresponding Klein--Gordon and Dirac equations are found. The Fock space construction is sketched.

On the classification of quantum Poincar\'e groups

Using the general theory of [10] ( hep-th 9412058 ), quantum Poincar\'e groups (without dilatations) are described and investigated. The description contains a set of numerical parameters which satisfy certain polynomial equations. For most cases we solve them and give the classification of quantum Poincar\'e groups. Each of them corresponds to exactly one quantum Minkowski space. The Poincar\'e series of these objects are the same as in the classical case. We also classify possible $R$-matrices for the fundamental representation of the group.
