Relativistic ring models

Relativistic thick ring models are constructed using previously found analytical Newtonian potential-density pairs for flat rings and toroidal structures obtained from Kuzmin-Toomre family of discs. In particular, we present systems with one ring, two rings and a disc with a ring. Also, the circular velocity of a test particle and its stability when performing circular orbits are presented in all these models. In general, we find that regions of non-stability appear between the rings when they become thinner.

Modeling the quantum evolution of the universe through classical matter

It is well known that the canonical quantization of the Friedmann-Lemaître-Robertson-Walker (FLRW) filled with a perfect fluid leads to nonsingular universes which, for later times, behave as their classical counterpart. This means that the expectation value of the scale factor $ (t)$ never vanishes and, as $t\to\infty$, we recover the classical expression for the scale factor. In this paper, we show that such universes can be reproduced by classical cosmology given that the universe is filled with an exotic matter. In the case of a perfect fluid, we find an implicit equation of state (EoS). We then show that this single fluid with an implict EoS is equivalent to two non-interacting fluids, one of them representing stiff matter with negative energy density. In the case of two non-interacting scalar fields, one of them of the phantom type, we find their potential energy. In both cases we find that quantum mechanics changes completely the configuration of matter for small values of time, by adding a fluid or a scalar field with negative energy density. As time passes, the density of negative energy decreases and we recover the ordinary content of the classical universe. The more the initial wave function of the universe is concentrated around the classical big bang singularity, the more it is necessary to add negative energy, since this type of energy will be responsible for the removal of the classical singularity.

Gravity with extra dimensions and dark matter interpretation: Phenomenological example via Miyamoto-Nagai galaxy

A configuration whose density profile coincides with the Newtonian potential for spiral galaxies is constructed from a 4D isotropic metric plus extra dimensional components. A Miyamoto-Nagai ansatz is used to solve Einstein equations. The stable rotation curves of such system are computed and, without fitting techniques, we recover with accuracy the observational data for flat or not asymptotically flat galaxy rotation curves. The density profiles are reconstructed and compared to that obtained from the Newtonian potential.

n-Dimensional FLRW Quantum Cosmology

We introduce the formalism of quantum cosmology in a Friedmann-Lemaître-Robertson-Walker (FLRW) universe of arbitrary dimension filled with a perfect fluid with $p=αρ$ equation of state. First we show that the Schutz formalism, developed in four dimensions, can be extended to a n-dimensional universe. We compute the quantum representant of the scale factor $a(t)$, in the Many-Worlds, as well as, in the de Broglie-Bohm interpretation of quantum mechanics. We show that the singularities, which are still present in the n-dimensional generalization of FLRW universe, are excluded with the introduction of quantum theory. We quantize, via the de Broglie-Bohm interpretation of quantum mechanics, the components of the Riemann curvature tensor in a tetrad basis in a n-dimensional FLRW universe filled with radiation ($p=\frac{1}{n-1}ρ$). We show that the quantized version of the Ricci scalar are perfectly regular for all time $t$. We also study the behavior of the energy density and pressure and show that the ratio $ _L/<ρ>_L$ tends to the classical value $1/(n-1)$ only for $n=4$, showing that $n=4$ is somewhat privileged among the other dimensions. Besides that, as $n\to\infty$, $ _L/<ρ>_L\to 1$.

Quantum Singularities in Static Spacetimes

We review the mathematical framework necessary to understand the physical content of quantum singularities in static spacetimes. We present many examples of classical singular spacetimes and study their singularities by using wave packets satisfying Klein-Gordon and Dirac equations. We show that in many cases the classical singularities are excluded when tested by quantum particles but unfortunately there are other cases where the singularities remain from the quantum mechanical point of view. When it is possible we also find, for spacetimes where quantum mechanics does not exclude the singularities, the boundary conditions necessary to turn the spatial portion of the wave operator into self-adjoint and emphasize their importance to the interpretation of quantum singularities.

Solutions to the restricted three-body problem with variable mass

We look for particular solutions to the restricted three-body problem where the bodies are allowed to either lose or gain mass to or from a static atmosphere. In the case that all the masses are proportional to the same function of time,we find analogous solution to the five stationary solutions of the usual restricted problem of constant masses: the three collinear and the two triangular solutions, but now the relative distance of the bodies changes with time at the same rate. Under some restrictions, there are also coplanar, infinitely remote and ring solutions.

Potential-density pairs for bent bars

A method is presented to bend a thin massive line when the curvature is small. The procedure is applied to a homogeneous thin bar with two types of curvatures. One of them mimics a galactic bar with two spiral arms at its tips. It is showed that if the bending function is a linear combination of Legendre polynomials, then the bent potential is an exact solution of the Laplace equation. A transformation is applied on the thin bent bars to generate three-dimensional potential-density pairs without singularities. The potentials of the thin bent bars are also used to generate non-axisymmetric planar distributions of matter.

Analytical potential-density pairs for bars

An identity that relates multipolar solutions of the Einstein equations to Newtonian potentials of bars with linear densities proportional to Legendre polynomials is used to construct analytical potential-density pairs of infinitesimally thin bars with a given linear density profile. By means of a suitable transformation, softened bars that are free of singularities are also obtained. As an application we study the equilibrium points and stability for the motion of test particles in the gravitational field for three models of rotating bars.

Newtonian and General Relativistic Models of Spherical Shells - II

A family of potential-density pairs that represent spherical shells with finite thickness is obtained from the superposition of spheres with finite radii. Other families of shells with infinite thickness with a central hole are obtained by inversion transformations of spheres and of the finite shells. We also present a family of double shells with finite thickness. All potential-density pairs are analytical and can be stated in terms of elementary functions. For the above-mentioned structures, we study the circular orbits of test particles and their stability with respect to radial perturbations. All examples presented are found to be stable. A particular isotropic form of a metric in spherical coordinates is used to construct a General Relativistic version of the Newtonian families of spheres and shells. The matter of these structures is anisotropic, and the degree of anisotropy is a function of the radius.

Newtonian and General Relativistic Models of Spherical Shells

A family of spherical shells with varying thickness is derived by using a simple Newtonian potential-density pair. Then, a particular isotropic form of a metric in spherical coordinates is used to construct a General Relativistic version of the Newtonian family of shells. The matter of these relativistic shells presents equal azimuthal and polar pressures, while the radial pressure is a constant times the tangential pressure. We also make a first study of stability of both the Newtonian and relativistic families of shells.

Analytical potential-density pairs from complex-shifted Kuzmin-Toomre discs

The complex-shift method is applied to the Kuzmin-Toomre family of discs to generate a family of non-axisymmetric flat distributions of matter. These are then superposed to construct non-axisymmetric flat rings. We also consider triaxial potential-density pairs obtained from these non-axisymmetric flat systems by means of suitable transformations. The use of the imaginary part of complex-shifted potential-density pairs is also discussed.

Analytical Potential-Density Pairs for Flat Rings and Toroidal Structures

The Kuzmin-Toomre family of discs is used to construct potential-density pairs that represent flat ring structures in terms of elementary functions. Systems composed of two concentric flat rings, a central disc surrounded by one ring and a ring with a centre of attraction are also presented. The circular velocity of test particles and the epicyclic frequency of small oscillations about circular orbits are calculated for these structures. A few examples of three-dimensional potential-density pairs of "inflated" flat rings (toroidal mass distributions) are presented.

Stochastic contribution to the growth factor in the LCDM model

We study the effect of noise on the evolution of the growth factor of density perturbations in the context of the LCDM model. Stochasticity is introduced as a Wiener process amplified by an intensity parameter alpha. By comparing the evolution of deterministic and stochastic cases for different values of alpha we estimate the intensity level necessary to make noise relevant for cosmological tests based on large-scale structure data. Our results indicate that the presence of random forces underlying the fluid description can lead to significant deviations from the nonstochastic solution at late times for alpha>0.001.

Stability of Orbits around a Spinning Body in a Pseudo-Newtonian Hill Problem

A pseudo-Newtonian Hill problem based on a potential proposed by Artemova et al. [Astroph. J. 461 (1996) 565] is presented. This potential reproduces some of the general relativistic effects due to the spin angular momentum of the bodies, like the dragging of inertial frames. Poincare maps, Lyapunov exponents and fractal escape techniques are employed to study the stability of bounded and unbounded orbits for different spins of the central body.

Exact General Relativistic Discs and the Advance of Perihelion

The advance of perihelion for geodesic motion on the galactic plane of some exact general relativistic disc solutions is calculated. Approximate analytical and numerical results are presented for the static Chazy-Curzon and the Schwarzschild discs in Weyl coordinates, the Schwarzschid disc in isotropic coordinantes and the stationary Kerr disc in the Weyl-Lewis-Papapetrou metrics. It is found that for these disc models the advance of perihelion may be an increasing or decreasing function of the orbital excentricity. The precession due to Newtonian gravity for these disc models is also calculated.

Stability of Closed Timelike Geodesics

The existence and stability under linear perturbations of closed timelike geodesics (CTGs) in Bonnor-Ward spacetime is studied in some detail. Regions where the CTG exist and are linearly stable are exhibited.

Exact General Relativistic Rotating Disks Immersed in Rotating Dust Generated from van Stockum Solutions

A class of exact general relativistic rotating thick disks surrounded by rotating dust is constructed by applying the ``displace, cut, fill and reflect'' method on the van Stockum class of metrics. Two particular solutions are considered in detail. We find that the disks have annular regions with negative energy density and heat flow is present in most of the radial extension of the disk. It is shown that thin disks are composed of exotic matter with an equation of state of cosmic strings or struts. We also comment the recent relativistic galactic model proposed by Cooperstock and Tieu and the presence of an additional disk of exotic matter in their model.

Newtonian and Pseudo-Newtonian Hill Problem

A pseudo-Newtonian Hill problem based on the Paczynski-Wiita pseudo-Newtonian potential that reproduces general relativistic effects is presented and compared with the usual Newtonian Hill problem. Poincare maps, Lyapunov exponents and fractal escape techniques are employed to study bounded and unbounded orbits. In particular we consider the systems composed by Sun, Earth and Moon and composed by the Milky Way, the M2 cluster and a star. We find that some pseudo-Newtonian systems - including the M2 system - are more stable than their Newtonian equivalent.
