Coherent radiation produced by microtron electron bunches

The theory of coherent transition radiation produced by a relativistic electron beam during its extraction from a microtron is established. Expressions for the beam form factor, spectral-angular and angular distribution of coherent transition radiation are obtained in explicit form. Estimates of microwave noise caused by coherent transition radiation are given.

Cumulation of High-current Electron Beams: Theory and Experiment

A drastic cumulation of current density caused by electrostatic repulsion in relativistic vacuum diodes with ring-type cathodes is described theoretically and confirmed experimentally. The distinctive feature of the suggested cumulation mechanism over the conventional one, which relies on focusing a high-current beam by its own magnetic field, is a very low energy spread of electrons in the region of maximal current density that stems from a laminar flow profile of the charged-particle beam.

Simulation of an axial vircator with a three-cavity resonator

We simulated an axial vircator with a three-cavity resonator and expected generation efficiency 6-7 percents. For adequate description of physical processes taking place inside a vircator we used two independent PIC codes: self-developed INPIC and free XOOPIC. Based on both the analysis of the vircator proposed in [1] and consideration of the devices operating at cathode-anode voltages under 450 kV we suggest 3 possible designs of a three-cavity resonator such that enable one to produce High Power Microwave in GW power range.

The effect of the electron-beam parameter spread on microwave generation in a three-cavity axial vircator

The behavior of the generation efficiency and radiation spectrum of a three-cavity axial vircator versus the radius of the injected electron beam, its impedance and energy homogeneity is studied. This paper establishes that for each geometry of a three-cavity resonator, there exist the optimal (maximizing the generation efficiency) values of these parameters and determines the range within which they may vary without losing the efficiency of generation.
