Late-Time Cosmology and Structure Formation in Quadratic $f(Q)$ Gravity

We investigate the cosmological evolution associated with the quadratic symmetric teleparallel gravity framework, \( f(Q)=Q+\alpha Q^{2}+\beta \) where the relation \(Q\propto H^{2}\) generates an additional \(H^{4}\) contribution to the Friedmann equation. Using the exact algebraic solution for $H(z)$, we reconstruct the effective dark-energy sector and compare the background evolution with $\Lambda$CDM using Type Ia supernovae, BAO, and cosmic-chronometer data. At the perturbative level, the model modifies the Poisson equation through a time-dependent effective gravitational coupling $G_{\textrm eff}(z)=G\big[1+\tfrac{2}{3}A E^{2}(z)\big]^{-1}$, where $A=18\alpha H_{0}^{2}$. For $\alpha>0$ this produces a weakened gravitational interaction, suppressing the linear growth factor $D(z)$, the growth rate $f(z)$, and the RSD observable $f\sigma_{8}(z)$. In the nonlinear regime, the reduced gravitational strength increases the spherical-collapse threshold and suppresses the halo mass function, leading to a lower predicted value of $S_{8}=\sigma_{8}\sqrt{\Omega_{m}/0.3}$. Thus, the quadratic $f(Q)$ extension can reproduce mild deviations from $\Lambda$CDM at the background level while naturally alleviating the $S_{8}$ tension, offering a viable modified-gravity explanation for recent observational hints of dynamical dark energy.

A Note on the Viability of Gauss-Bonnet Cosmology

In this paper, we analyze the viability of a vacuum Gauss-Bonnet cosmology by examining the dynamics of the homogeneous and anisotropic background in 4+1 dimensions. The trajectories of the system either originate from the standard singularity or from non-standard type, the later is characterized by the divergence of time derivative of the Hubble parameters for its finite value. At the onset, the system should relax to Einstein phase at late times as the effect of Gauss-Bonnet term becomes negligible in the low energy regime. However, we find that most of the trajectories emerging from the standard big-bang singularity lead to future re-collapse whereas the system beginning its evolution from the non-standard singularity enters the Kasner regime at late times. This leads to the conclusion that the measure of trajectories giving rise to a smooth evolution from a standard singularity to the Einstein phase is negligibly small for generic initial conditions.

De Sitter stability in quadratic gravity

Quadratic curvature corrections to Einstein-Hilbert action lead in general to higher-order equations of motion, which can induced instability of some unperturbed solutions of General Relativity. We study conditions for stability of de Sitter cosmological solution. We argue that simple form of this condition known for FRW background in 3+1 dimensions changes seriously if at least one of these two assumptions is violated. In the present paper the stability conditions for de Sitter solution have been found for multidimensional FRW background and for Bianchi I metrics in 3+1 dimensions.

Braneworld dynamics with vacuum polarization

We investigate the cosmological dynamics of a brane Universe when quantum corrections from vacuum polarization are taken into account. New vacuum de Sitter points existing on Randall-Sundrum brane are described. We show also that quantum correction can destroy the DGP de Sitter solution on induced gravity brane.

Recollapsing Bianchi I brane worlds

We investigate the possibility for a flat Bianchi I brane Universe to recollaps due to the presence of a negative "dark radiation" and an anisotropic stress in the form of a homogeneous magnetic field, localized on the brane.

New properties of scalar field dynamics in brane isotropic cosmological models

Several aspects of scalar field dynamics on a brane which differs from corresponding regimes in the standard cosmology are investigated. We consider asymptotic solution near a singularity, condition for inflation and bounces and some detail of chaotic behavior in the brane model. Each results are compared with those known in the standard cosmology.
