Pauli form factors of electron and muon in nonlocal quantum electrodynamics

Pauli form factors of electron and muon are studied in nonlocal quantum electrodynamics. We calculate one loop QED correction to their Pauli form factors. The relativistic regulator is generated by the correlation function in the nonlocal interaction. The cut-off parameter $Λ$ in the regulator is determined to get the consistent anomalous magnetic moments of electron and muon at the same level as local QED. When momentum transfer is large, there exists obvious difference between nonlocal and local QED.

Parton distributions from nonlocal chiral SU(3) effective theory. I. Splitting functions

We present a new formulation of pseudoscalar meson loop corrections to nucleon parton distributions within a nonlocal covariant chiral effective field theory, including contributions from SU(3) octet and decuplet baryons. The nonlocal Lagrangian, constrained by requirements of local gauge invariance and Lorentz-invariant ultraviolet regularization, generates additional interactions associated with gauge links. We use these to compute the full set of proton $\to$ meson + baryon splitting functions, which in general contain on-shell and off-shell contributions, in addition to $δ$-function terms at zero momentum, along with nonlocal contributions associated with the finite size of the proton. We illustrate the shapes of the various local and nonlocal functions numerically using a simple example of a dipole regulator.

Maximal distant entanglement in Kitaev tube

We study the Kitaev model on a finite-size square lattice with periodic boundary conditions in one direction and open boundary conditions in the other. Based on the fact that the Majorana representation of Kitaev model is equivalent to a brick wall model under the condition $t=Δ=μ$, this system is shown to support perfect Majorana bound states which is in strong localization limit. By introducing edge-mode fermionic operator and pseudo-spin representation, we find that such edge modes are always associated with maximal entanglement between two edges of the tube, which is independent of the size of the system.

Exceptional point induced lasing dynamics in a non-Hermitian system

Non-Hermitian systems exhibit many peculiar dynamic behaviors which never showed up in Hermitian systems. The existence of spectral singularity (SS) for a non-Hermitian scattering center provides a lasing mechanism in the context of quantum mechanics. In this paper we show exactly that a finite system at exceptional point (EP) can also provide an alternative laser solution. We investigate the dynamics of non-Hermitian Su-Schrieffer-Heeger (SSH) model around EP, based on the analysis of parity-time (PT ) and chiral-time (CT ) symmetries of the Hamiltonian. In contrast to the SS lasing mechanism for an infinite system, such an SSH chain acts as an active laser medium at threshold, within which a stationary particle emission can be fired anywhere, rather than a specific location at the non-Hermitian scattering center only. In addition, some relevant peculiar phenomena arising from interference between wave packets are revealed based on the analytical solutions.

The application of precision time protocol on EAST timing system

The timing system focuses on synchronizing and coordinating each subsystem according to the trigger signals. A new prototype timing slave node based on precision time protocol has been developed by using ARM STM32 platform. The proposed slave timing module is tested and results show that the synchronization accuracy between slave nodes is in sub-microsecond range.

Strange form factors of nucleon with nonlocal chiral effective Lagrangian

The strange form factors of nucleon are studied with the nonlocal chiral effective Lagrangian. One loop contributions from both octet and decuplet intermediate states are included. The relativistic regulator is obtained by the nonlocal Lagrangian where the gauge link is introduced to guarantee the local gauge symmetry. With the kaon loop, the calculated charge form factor is positive, while the magnetic form factor is negative. The strange magnetic moment is $-0.041^{+0.012}_{-0.014}$ with $Λ=0.9 \pm 0.1$ determined from the nucleon electromagnetic form factors. Our results are comparable with the recent lattice simulation.

Phenomenological study on the decay widths of $Υ(nS)\rightarrow \bar{d}^{\ast}(2380)+X$

The decay widths of $Υ(nS)$ $\rightarrow$ $\bar{d}^{\ast}(2380)+X$ with $n=1,2,3$ are studied in a phenomenological way. With the help of crossing symmetry, the decay widths are obtained by investigating the imaginary part of the forward scattering amplitudes between $d^\ast$ and $Υ(nS)$. The wave functions of $d^\ast$ and deuteron obtained in previous studies are used for calculating the amplitude. The interaction between $d^{\ast}$ ($d$) and $Υ$ is governed by the quark-meson interaction where the coupling constant is determined by fitting the observed widths of $Υ(nS)$ $\rightarrow$ $\bar{d}+X$. The numerical results show that the decay widths of $Υ(nS)$ $\rightarrow$ $\bar{d}^{\ast}+X$ are about $2 - 10$ times smaller than that of $\bar{d}+X$. The calculated momentum of $\bar{d^*}$ is in the range $0.3-0.8$ GeV. Therefore, it is very likely that one can find $\bar{d}^\ast(2380)$ in these semi-inclusive decay processes.

Study of Light Backgrounds from Relativistic Electrons in Air Light-Guides

The MOLLER experiment proposed at the Thomas Jefferson National Accelerator Facility plans a precision low energy determination of the weak mixing angle via the measurement of the parity-violating asymmetry in the scattering of high energy longitudinally polarized electrons from electrons bound in a liquid hydrogen target (Møller scattering). A relative measure of the scattering rate is planned to be obtained by intercepting the Møller scattered electrons with a circular array of thin fused silica tiles attached to air light guides, which facilitate the transport of Cherenkov photons generated within the tiles to photomultiplier tubes (PMTs). The scattered flux will also pass through the light guides of downstream tiles, generating additional Cherenkov as well as scintillation light and is a potential background. In order to estimate the rate of these backgrounds, a gas-filled tube detector was designed and deployed in an electron beam at the MAMI facility at Johannes Gutenberg University, Mainz, Germany. Described in this paper is the design of a detector to measure separately the scintillation and Cherenkov responses of gas mixtures from relativistic electrons, the results of studies of several gas mixtures with comparisons to simulations, and conclusions about the implications for the design of the MOLLER detector apparatus.

Simple harmonic oscillation in non-Hermitian SSH chain at exceptional point

The balance of gain and loss in an open system may maintain certain Hermitian dynamical behaviors, which can be hardly observed in a popular Hermitian system. In this paper, we systematically study a 1D PT -symmetry non-Hermitian SSH model with open boundary condition based on exact approximate solution. We show that the long-wave length standing-wave modes can be achieved within the linear dispersion region when the system is tuned at the exceptional point (EP). The whole Hilbert space can be decomposed into two quasi-Hermitian subspaces, which are consisted of positive and negative energy levels, respectively. Within each subspace, the system maintains all the features of a Hermitian one. We construct a coherent-like state in a subspace and find that it exhibits perfect simple harmonic motion (SHM). In contrast to a canonical coherent state, the shape of the wavepacket deforms periodically rather than entirely translation. And the amplitude of the SHM is not determined by the initial condition but the shape of the wavepacket. Our result indicates that novel Hermitian dynamics can be realized by a non-Hermitian system.

Nucleon electromagnetic form factors with non-local chiral effective Lagrangian

The relativistic version of finite-range-regularisation is proposed. The covariant regulator is generated from the nonlocal Lagrangian. This nonlocal interaction is gauge invariant and is applied to study the nucleon electromagnetic form factors at momentum transfer up to 2 GeV$^2$. Both octet and decuplet intermediate states are included in the one loop calculation. Using a dipole regulator with $Λ$ around 0.85 GeV, the obtained form factors, electromagnetic radii as well as the ratios of the form factors are all comparable with the experimental data. This successful application of chiral effective Lagrangian to relatively large momentum transfer make it possible to further investigation of hadron quantities at high $Q^2$.

Antiferromagnetic order in epitaxial FeSe films on SrTiO3

Single monolayer FeSe film grown on Nb-doped SrTiO$_3$(001) substrate shows the highest superconducting transition temperature (T$_C$ $\sim$ 100 K) among the iron-based superconductors (iron-pnictide), while T$_C$ of bulk FeSe is only $\sim$ 8 K. Antiferromagnetic spin fluctuations were believed to be crucial in iron-pnictides, which has inspired several proposals to understand the FeSe/SrTiO$_3$ system. Although bulk FeSe does not show the antiferromagnetic order, calculations suggest that the parent FeSe/SrTiO$_3$ films are AFM. Experimentally, due to lacking of direct probe, the magnetic state of FeSe/SrTiO$_3$ films remains mysterious. Here, we report the direct evidences of the antiferromagnetic order in the parent FeSe/SrTiO$_3$ films by the magnetic exchange bias effect measurements. The phase transition temperature is $\geq$ 140 K for single monolayer film. The AFM order disappears after electron doping.

Orbital-dependent charge dynamics in MnP revealed by optical study

Unconventional superconductivity often emerges at the border of long-range magnetic orders. Understanding the low-energy charge dynamics may provide crucial information on the formation of superconductivity. Here we report the unpolarized/polarized optical conductivity study of high quality MnP single crystals at ambient pressure. Our data reveal two types of charge carriers with very different lifetimes. In combination with the first-principles calculations, we show that the short-lifetime carriers have flat Fermi sheets which become gapped in the helimagnetic phase, causing a dramatic change in the low-frequency optical spectra, while the long-lifetime carriers are anisotropic three-dimensional like which are little affected by the magnetic transitions and provide major contributions to the transport properties. This orbital-dependent charge dynamics originates from the special crystal structure of MnP and may have an influence on the unconventional superconductivity and its interplay with helimagnetism at high pressures.

An attractor dynamics in a non-Hermitian two-level system

Exceptional point in non-Hermitian system possesses fascinating properties. We present an exactly solvable attractor dynamics for the first time from a two-level time dependent non-Hermitian Hamiltonian. It allows a way to evolve to the coalescence state from a pure or mixed initial state through varying the imaginary parameter along a specific diabatic passage. Contrast to a chaotic attractor that is ultrasensitive to the initial condition, the designed attractor is insensitive to the initial conditions. The attractor-like behavior still exists for several adiabatic processes.

Su-Schrieffer-Heeger chain with one pair of PT-symmetric defects

The topologically nontrivial edge states induce PT transition in Su-Schrieffer-Heeger (SSH) chain with one pair of gain and loss at boundaries. In this study, we investigated a pair of PT-symmetric defects located inside the SSH chain, in particular, the defects locations are at the chain centre. The PT symmetry breaking of the bound states leads to the PT transition, the PT-symmetric phases and the localized states were studied. In the broken PT-symmetric phase, all energy levels break simultaneously in topologically trivial phase; however, two edge states in topologically nontrivial phase are free from the influence of the PT-symmetric defects. We discovered PT-symmetric bound states induced by the PT-symmetric local defects at the SSH chain centre. The PT-symmetric bound states significantly increase the PT transition threshold and coalesce to the topologically protected zero mode with vanishing probabilities on every other site of the left-half chain and the right-half chain, respectively.

Parallel dynamics between non-Hermitian and Hermitian systems

We study the connection between a family of non-Hermitian Hamiltonians H and Hermitian ones H based on exact solutions. In general, for a dynamic process in a non-Hermitian system H, there always exists a parallel dynamic process governed by the corresponding Hermitian conjugate Hamiltonian H†. We show that a linear superposition of the two parallel dynamics is exactly equivalent to the time evolution of a state under a Hermitian Hamiltonian H. It reveals a novel connection between non-Hermitian and Hermitian systems.

Fisher information of a squeezed-state interferometer with a finite photon-number resolution

Squeezed-state interferometry plays an important role in quantum-enhanced optical phase estimation, as it allows the estimation precision to be improved up to the Heisenberg limit by using ideal photon-number-resolving detectors at the output ports. Here we show that for each individual $N$-photon component of the phase-matched coherent $\otimes$ squeezed vacuum input state, the classical Fisher information always saturates the quantum Fisher information. Moreover, the total Fisher information is the sum of the contributions from each individual $N$-photon components, where the largest $N$ is limited by the finite number resolution of available photon counters. Based on this observation, we provide an approximate analytical formula that quantifies the amount of lost information due to the finite photon number resolution, e.g., given the mean photon number $\bar{n}$ in the input state, over $96$ percent of the Heisenberg limit can be achieved with the number resolution larger than $5\bar{n}$.

A novel comparison of Møller and Compton electron-beam polarimeters

We have performed a novel comparison between electron-beam polarimeters based on Møller and Compton scattering. A sequence of electron-beam polarization measurements were performed at low beam currents ($<$ 5 $μ$A) during the $Q_{\rm weak}$ experiment in Hall C at Jefferson Lab. These low current measurements were bracketed by the regular high current (180 $μ$A) operation of the Compton polarimeter. All measurements were found to be consistent within experimental uncertainties of 1% or less, demonstrating that electron polarization does not depend significantly on the beam current. This result lends confidence to the common practice of applying Møller measurements made at low beam currents to physics experiments performed at higher beam currents. The agreement between two polarimetry techniques based on independent physical processes sets an important benchmark for future precision asymmetry measurements that require sub-1% precision in polarimetry.

Wave emission and absorption at spectral singularities

We studied the critical dynamics of spectral singularities. The system investigated is a coupled resonator array with a side-coupled loss (gain) resonator. For a gain resonator, the system acts as a wave emitter at spectral singularities. The reflection probability increased linearly over time. The rate of increase is proportional to the width of the incident wave packet, which served as the spectral singularity observer in the experiment. For a lossy resonator, the system acts as a wave absorber. The emission and absorption states at spectral singularities coalesce in a finite parity-time (PT ) symmetric system that combined by the gain and loss structures cut from corrresponding scattering systems at spectral singularities; in this case, the PT -symmetric system is at an exceptional point with a 2 * 2 Jordan block. The dynamics of the PT -symmetric system exhibit the characteristic of exceptional points and spectral singularities.
