A biased Ising model using two coupled Kerr parametric oscillators with external force

Networks of coupled Kerr parametric oscillators (KPOs) are a leading physical platform for analog solving of complex optimization problems. These systems are colloquially known as ``Ising machines''. We experimentally and theoretically study such a network under the influence of an external force. The force breaks the collective phase-parity symmetry of the system and competes with the intrinsic coupling in ordering the network configuration, similar to how a magnetic field biases an interacting spin ensemble. Specifically, we demonstrate how the force can be used to control the system, and highlight the crucial role of the phase and symmetry of the force. Our work thereby provides a method to create Ising machines with arbitrary bias, extending even to exotic cases that are impossible to engineer in real spin systems.

Magneto-caloric effect in the pseudo-binary intermetallic YPrFe17 compound

We have synthesized the intermetallic YPrFe17 compound by arc-melting. X-ray and neutron powder diffraction show that the crystal structure is rhombohedral with View the MathML source space group (Th2Zn17-type). The investigated compound exhibits a broad isothermal magnetic entropy change ΔSM(T) associated with the ferro-to-paramagnetic phase transition (TC \approx 290 K). The |ΔSM| (\approx 2.3 J kg-1 K-1) and the relative cooling power (\approx 100 J kg-1) have been calculated for applied magnetic field changes up to 1.5 T. A single master curve for ΔSM under different values of the magnetic field change can be obtained by a rescaling of the temperature axis. The results are compared and discussed in terms of the magneto-caloric effect in the isostructural R2Fe17 (R = Y, Pr and Nd) binary intermetallic alloys.

Enhanced refrigerant capacity and magnetic entropy flattening using a two-amorphous FeZrB(Cu) composite

The temperature dependence of the isothermal magnetic entropy change, ΔSM, and the magnetic field dependence of the refrigerant capacity, RC, have been investigated in a composite system xA+(1-x)B, based on Fe87Zr6B6Cu1 (A) and Fe90Zr8B2 (B) amorphous ribbons. Under a magnetic field change of 2 T the maximum improvement of the full-width at half maximum of ΔSM(T) curve (47 and 29 %) and the RC (18 and 23 %), in comparison with those of the individual alloys (A and B), is observed for x \approx 0.5. Moreover, a flattening over 80 K in the ΔSM(T) curve around room temperature range is observed, which is a key feature for an Ericsson magnetic refrigeration cycle.
