The effect of the two-loop SMEFT RGEs at future colliders

The search for New Physics requires ever increasing precision from experimental and theoretical efforts. Within the Standard Model Effective Field Theory (SMEFT) framework, the latest achievement in this quest has been the complete computation of the two-loop Renormalisation Group Equations (RGEs) for the Wilson Coefficients of dimension-six operators. In this work, we solve the two-loop SMEFT RGEs with full numerical integration and compare the evolution matrix obtained at one and two loops to analyze how two-loop contributions alter mixing patterns and break zeroes present at one-loop order. Then, we perform a first comprehensive analysis of the impact of the two-loop RGEs in phenomenological studies at HL-LHC and FCC-ee. From a bottom-up perspective, we carry out individual and global fits at linear and quadratic level for a set of 61 Wilson coefficients and compare against the results obtained by including only one-loop RGE effects. We find non-negligible two-loop induced effects in some cases, in particular for four-quark, top Yukawa and Higgs-gluon operators. From a top-down perspective, we perform fits to all the scalar and fermion extensions of the Granada dictionary matched onto SMEFT at one-loop level, including for the first time the couplings that enter only at one loop, and find percent-level effects in the sensitivity to the couplings of some models.

Renormalization of general Effective Field Theories: Renormalization of fermionic operators

Renormalization group equations play a central role in effective field theories, both maintaining perturbative control and allowing one to determine the correct low-energy phenomenology. In this work, we complete the one-loop renormalization of the recently developed general effective field theory up to mass dimension six by providing the beta functions for physical fermionic operators. Together with Ref. [1], our results allow one to renormalize any effective theory up to dimension six at one loop using only a group-theoretical calculation.

The Dark Side of a Tera-Z Factory

The future circular $e^+e^-$ collider (FCC-ee or CEPC) will provide unprecedented sensitivity to indirect new physics signals emerging as small deviations from the Standard Model predictions in electroweak precision tests. Assuming new physics scenarios containing a dark matter candidate and a $t$-channel mediator, we analyse the synergy and interplay of future Tera-$Z$ factories and non-collider tests conducted through direct and indirect searches of dark matter. Our results highlight the excellent prospect for a Tera-$Z$ run to indirectly probe the presence and nature of dark matter.

Renormalization of general Effective Field Theories: Formalism and renormalization of bosonic operators

We describe the most general local, Lorentz-invariant, effective field theory of scalars, fermions and gauge bosons up to mass dimension 6. We first obtain both a Green and a physical basis for such an effective theory, together with the on-shell reduction of the former to the latter. We then proceed to compute the renormalization group equations for the bosonic operators of this general effective theory at one-loop order.

From the EFT to the UV: the complete SMEFT one-loop dictionary

Effective field theories (EFTs) provide an excellent framework for the search of heavy physics beyond the Standard Model, using the so-called bottom-up and top-down approaches. However, the vastness of possible UV scenarios makes the complete connection between the two approaches a difficult challenge at the loop-level. UV/IR dictionaries fill precisely this gap, efficiently connecting the EFT with the UV. In this work we present the complete one-loop dictionary for the Standard Model EFT at dimension six for completions with an arbitrary number of heavy fermions and scalars. Our results (as well as several new functionalities) are added to the previously partial package SOLD. In this new form, SOLD is prepared to serve as an important guiding tool for systematic and complete phenomenological studies. To illustrate this, we use the package to explore possible explanations for the tension on the measurement of $\mathcal{B}(B\rightarrow K \overline{\nu}\nu)$.

LHC EFT WG Note: Precision matching of microscopic physics to the Standard Model Effective Field Theory (SMEFT)

This note gives an overview of the tools for the precision matching of ultraviolet theories to the Standard Model effective field theory (SMEFT) at the tree level and one loop. Several semi- and fully automated codes are presented, as well as some supplementary codes for the basis conversion and the subsequent running and matching at low energies. A suggestion to collect information for cross-validations of current and future codes is made.

A bridge to new physics: proposing new -- and reviving old -- explanations of $a_μ$

The $4.2\,σ$ tension in the combined measurement of the anomalous magnetic moment of the muon, $a_μ$, and the Standard Model prediction strongly suggests the existence of beyond the Standard Model physics. Following the Standard Model Effective Field Theory approach, we study a particular topology, the \emph{bridge} diagram, which gives a chirally enhanced contribution to $a_μ$. We classify all possible 2- and 3-field SM extensions that can generate this contribution and present the full $a_μ$ result for them. Within our approach, we find that several 2-field fermion-scalar extensions which had been previously discarded in the literature -- when only the Yukawa-suppressed contribution was considered -- can actually be viable models to explain the observed anomaly. Furthermore, the 3-field extensions which generate the bridge diagram represent a new class of models to account for $a_μ$. We explore a particular 3-field extension which, beyond explaining $a_μ$, can also account for the neutral $B$-meson anomalies and the Cabibbo angle anomaly. We present the full one-loop matching for this model and a one-loop phenomenological study.

Matchmakereft: automated tree-level and one-loop matching

We introduce matchmakereft, a fully automated tool to compute the tree-level and one-loop matching of arbitrary models onto arbitrary effective theories. Matchmakereft performs an off-shell matching, using diagrammatic methods and the background field method when gauge theories are involved. The large redundancy inherent to the off-shell matching together with explicit gauge invariance offers a significant number of non-trivial checks of the results provided. These results are given in the physical basis but several intermediate results, including the matching in the Green basis before and after canonical normalization, are given for flexibility and the possibility of further cross-checks. As a non-trivial example we provide the complete matching in the Warsaw basis up to one loop of an extension of the Standard Model with a charge -1 vector-like lepton singlet. Matchmakereft has been built with generality, flexibility and efficiency in mind. These ingredients allow matchmakereft to have many applications beyond the matching between models and effective theories. Some of these applications include the one-loop renormalization of arbitrary theories (including the calculation of the one-loop renormalization group equations for arbitrary theories); the translation between different Green bases for a fixed effective theory or the check of (off-shell) linear independence of the operators in an effective theory. All these applications are performed in a fully automated way by matchmakereft.
