A fractional conformal curvature flow on the unit sphere

We study a fractional conformal curvature flow on the standard unit sphere and prove a perturbation result of the fractional Nirenberg problem with fractional exponent $σ\in (1/2,1)$. This extends the result of Chen-Xu (Invent. Math. 187, no. 2, 395-506, 2012) for the scalar curvature flow on the standard unit sphere.

Deformation of the scalar curvature and the mean curvature

On a compact manifold $M$ with boundary $\partial M$, we study the problem of prescribing the scalar curvature in $M$ and the mean curvature on the boundary $\partial M$ simultaneously. To do this, we introduce the notion of singular metric, which is inspired by the early work of Fischer-Marsden in [18] and Lin-Yuan in [23] for closed manifold. We show that we can prescribe the scalar curvature and the mean curvature simultaneously for generic scalar-flat manifolds with minimal boundary. We also prove some rigidity results for the flat manifolds with totally geodesic boundary.

CR Yamabe constant, CR Yamabe flow and its soliton

On a compact strictly pseudoconvex CR manifold $(M,þ)$, we consider the CR Yamabe constant of its infinite conformal covering. By using the maximum principles, we then prove a uniqueness theorem for the CR Yamabe flow on a complete noncompact CR manifold. Finally we obtain some properties of the CR Yamabe soliton on complete noncompact CR manifolds.

Connected sum of CR manifolds with positive CR Yamabe constant

Suppose $M_{1}$ and $M_{2}$ are $3$-dimensional closed (compact without boundary) CR manifolds with positive CR Yamabe constant. In this note, we show that the connected sum of $M_{1}$ and $M_{2}$ also admits a CR structure with positive CR Yamabe constant.

First eigenvalues of geometric operators under the Yamabe flow

Suppose $(M,g_0)$ is a compact Riemannian manifold without boundary of dimension $n\geq 3$. Using the Yamabe flow, we obtain estimate for the first nonzero eigenvalue of the Laplacian of $g_0$ with negative scalar curvature in terms of the Yamabe metric in its conformal class. On the other hand, we prove that the first eigenvalue of some geometric operators on a compact Riemannian manifold is nondecreasing along the unnormalized Yamabe flow under suitable curvature assumption. Similar results are obtained for manifolds with boundary and for CR manifold.

Convergence of the CR Yamabe Flow

We consider the CR Yamabe flow on a compact strictly pseudoconvex CR manifold $M$ of real dimension $2n+1$. We prove convergence of the CR Yamabe flow when $n=1$ or $M$ is spherical.

Prescribed scalar curvature plus mean curvature flows in compact manifolds with boundary of negative conformal invariant

We employ three different methods to prove the following result on prescribed scalar curvature plus mean curvature problem: Let $(M^n,g_0)$ be a $n$-dimensional smooth compact manifold with boundary, where $n \geq 3$, assume the conformal invariant $Y(M,\partial M)<0$. Given any negative smooth functions $f$ in $M$ and $h$ on $\partial M$, there exists a unique conformal metric of $g_0$ such that its scalar curvature equals $f$ and mean curvature curvature equals $h$. The first two methods are sub-super-solution method and subcritical approximation, and the third method is a geometric flow. In the flow approach, assume another conformal invariant $Q(M,\pa M)$ is a negative real number, for some class of initial data, we prove the short time and long time existences of the so-called prescribed scalar curvature plus mean curvature flows, as well as their asymptotic convergence. Via a family of such flows together with some additional variational arguments, under the flow assumptions we prove existence and uniqueness of positive minimizers of the associated energy functional and also the above result by analyzing asymptotic limits of the flows and the relations among some conformal invariants.

The Webster scalar curvature flow on CR sphere. Part I

This is the first of two papers, in which we prove some properties of the Webster scalar curvature flow. More precisely, we establish the long-time existence, L^p convergence and the blow-up analysis for the solution of the flow. As a by-product, we prove the convergence of the CR Yamabe flow on the CR sphere. The results in this paper will be used to prove a result of prescribing Webster scalar curvature on the CR sphere, which is the main result of the second paper.

The Webster scalar curvature flow on CR sphere. Part II

This is the second of two papers, in which we study the problem of prescribing Webster scalar curvature on the CR sphere as a given function f. Using the Webster scalar curvature flow, we prove an existence result under suitable assumptions on the Morse indices of f.

Optimality for totally real immersions and independent mappings of manifolds into C^N

The optimal target dimensions are determined for totally real immersions and for independent mappings into complex affine spaces. Our arguments are similar to those given by Forster, but we use orientable manifolds as far as possible and so are able to obtain improved results for orientable manifolds of even dimension. This leads to new examples showing that the known immersion and submersion dimensions for holomorphic mappings from Stein manifolds to affine spaces are best possible.
