HydraMamba: Multi-Head State Space Model for Global Point Cloud Learning

The attention mechanism has become a dominant operator in point cloud learning, but its quadratic complexity leads to limited inter-point interactions, hindering long-range dependency modeling between objects. Due to excellent long-range modeling capability with linear complexity, the selective state space model (S6), as the core of Mamba, has been exploited in point cloud learning for long-range dependency interactions over the entire point cloud. Despite some significant progress, related works still suffer from imperfect point cloud serialization and lack of locality learning. To this end, we explore a state space model-based point cloud network termed HydraMamba to address the above challenges. Specifically, we design a shuffle serialization strategy, making unordered point sets better adapted to the causal nature of S6. Meanwhile, to overcome the deficiency of existing techniques in locality learning, we propose a ConvBiS6 layer, which is capable of capturing local geometries and global context dependencies synergistically. Besides, we propose MHS6 by extending the multi-head design to S6, further enhancing its modeling capability. HydraMamba achieves state-of-the-art results on various tasks at both object-level and scene-level. The code is available at https://github.com/Point-Cloud-Learning/HydraMamba.

Uni4D: A Unified Self-Supervised Learning Framework for Point Cloud Videos

Self-supervised representation learning for point cloud videos remains a challenging problem with two key limitations: (1) existing methods rely on explicit knowledge to learn motion, resulting in suboptimal representations; (2) prior Masked AutoEncoder (MAE) frameworks struggle to bridge the gap between low-level geometry and high-level dynamics in 4D data. In this work, we propose a novel self-disentangled MAE for learning expressive, discriminative, and transferable 4D representations. To overcome the first limitation, we learn motion by aligning high-level semantics in the latent space \textit{without any explicit knowledge}. To tackle the second, we introduce a \textit{self-disentangled learning} strategy that incorporates the latent token with the geometry token within a shared decoder, effectively disentangling low-level geometry and high-level semantics. In addition to the reconstruction objective, we employ three alignment objectives to enhance temporal understanding, including frame-level motion and video-level global information. We show that our pre-trained encoder surprisingly discriminates spatio-temporal representation without further fine-tuning. Extensive experiments on MSR-Action3D, NTU-RGBD, HOI4D, NvGesture, and SHREC'17 demonstrate the superiority of our approach in both coarse-grained and fine-grained 4D downstream tasks. Notably, Uni4D improves action segmentation accuracy on HOI4D by $+3.8\%$.

PiCo: Enhancing Text-Image Alignment with Improved Noise Selection and Precise Mask Control in Diffusion Models

Advanced diffusion models have made notable progress in text-to-image compositional generation. However, it is still a challenge for existing models to achieve text-image alignment when confronted with complex text prompts. In this work, we highlight two factors that affect this alignment: the quality of the randomly initialized noise and the reliability of the generated controlling mask. We then propose PiCo (Pick-and-Control), a novel training-free approach with two key components to tackle these two factors. First, we develop a noise selection module to assess the quality of the random noise and determine whether the noise is suitable for the target text. A fast sampling strategy is utilized to ensure efficiency in the noise selection stage. Second, we introduce a referring mask module to generate pixel-level masks and to precisely modulate the cross-attention maps. The referring mask is applied to the standard diffusion process to guide the reasonable interaction between text and image features. Extensive experiments have been conducted to verify the effectiveness of PiCo in liberating users from the tedious process of random generation and in enhancing the text-image alignment for diverse text descriptions.

Uncertainty Guided Refinement for Fine-Grained Salient Object Detection

Recently, salient object detection (SOD) methods have achieved impressive performance. However, salient regions predicted by existing methods usually contain unsaturated regions and shadows, which limits the model for reliable fine-grained predictions. To address this, we introduce the uncertainty guidance learning approach to SOD, intended to enhance the model's perception of uncertain regions. Specifically, we design a novel Uncertainty Guided Refinement Attention Network (UGRAN), which incorporates three important components, i.e., the Multilevel Interaction Attention (MIA) module, the Scale Spatial-Consistent Attention (SSCA) module, and the Uncertainty Refinement Attention (URA) module. Unlike conventional methods dedicated to enhancing features, the proposed MIA facilitates the interaction and perception of multilevel features, leveraging the complementary characteristics among multilevel features. Then, through the proposed SSCA, the salient information across diverse scales within the aggregated features can be integrated more comprehensively and integrally. In the subsequent steps, we utilize the uncertainty map generated from the saliency prediction map to enhance the model's perception capability of uncertain regions, generating a highly-saturated fine-grained saliency prediction map. Additionally, we devise an adaptive dynamic partition (ADP) mechanism to minimize the computational overhead of the URA module and improve the utilization of uncertainty guidance. Experiments on seven benchmark datasets demonstrate the superiority of the proposed UGRAN over the state-of-the-art methodologies. Codes will be released at https://github.com/I2-Multimedia-Lab/UGRAN.

Relevance-guided Audio Visual Fusion for Video Saliency Prediction

Audio data, often synchronized with video frames, plays a crucial role in guiding the audience's visual attention. Incorporating audio information into video saliency prediction tasks can enhance the prediction of human visual behavior. However, existing audio-visual saliency prediction methods often directly fuse audio and visual features, which ignore the possibility of inconsistency between the two modalities, such as when the audio serves as background music. To address this issue, we propose a novel relevance-guided audio-visual saliency prediction network dubbed AVRSP. Specifically, the Relevance-guided Audio-Visual feature Fusion module (RAVF) dynamically adjusts the retention of audio features based on the semantic relevance between audio and visual elements, thereby refining the integration process with visual features. Furthermore, the Multi-scale feature Synergy (MS) module integrates visual features from different encoding stages, enhancing the network's ability to represent objects at various scales. The Multi-scale Regulator Gate (MRG) could transfer crucial fusion information to visual features, thus optimizing the utilization of multi-scale visual features. Extensive experiments on six audio-visual eye movement datasets have demonstrated that our AVRSP network achieves competitive performance in audio-visual saliency prediction.

Att2CPC: Attention-Guided Lossy Attribute Compression of Point Clouds

With the great progress of 3D sensing and acquisition technology, the volume of point cloud data has grown dramatically, which urges the development of efficient point cloud compression methods. In this paper, we focus on the task of learned lossy point cloud attribute compression (PCAC). We propose an efficient attention-based method for lossy compression of point cloud attributes leveraging on an autoencoder architecture. Specifically, at the encoding side, we conduct multiple downsampling to best exploit the local attribute patterns, in which effective External Cross Attention (ECA) is devised to hierarchically aggregate features by intergrating attributes and geometry contexts. At the decoding side, the attributes of the point cloud are progressively reconstructed based on the multi-scale representation and the zero-padding upsampling tactic. To the best of our knowledge, this is the first approach to introduce attention mechanism to point-based lossy PCAC task. We verify the compression efficiency of our model on various sequences, including human body frames, sparse objects, and large-scale point cloud scenes. Experiments show that our method achieves an average improvement of 1.15 dB and 2.13 dB in BD-PSNR of Y channel and YUV channel, respectively, when comparing with the state-of-the-art point-based method Deep-PCAC. DiffuseST: Unleashing the Capability of the Diffusion Model for Style Transfer

Style transfer aims to fuse the artistic representation of a style image with the structural information of a content image. Existing methods train specific networks or utilize pre-trained models to learn content and style features. However, they rely solely on textual or spatial representations that are inadequate to achieve the balance between content and style. In this work, we propose a novel and training-free approach for style transfer, combining textual embedding with spatial features and separating the injection of content or style. Specifically, we adopt the BLIP-2 encoder to extract the textual representation of the style image. We utilize the DDIM inversion technique to extract intermediate embeddings in content and style branches as spatial features. Finally, we harness the step-by-step property of diffusion models by separating the injection of content and style in the target branch, which improves the balance between content preservation and style fusion. Various experiments have demonstrated the effectiveness and robustness of our proposed DiffeseST for achieving balanced and controllable style transfer results, as well as the potential to extend to other tasks.

Magnet: We Never Know How Text-to-Image Diffusion Models Work, Until We Learn How Vision-Language Models Function

Text-to-image diffusion models particularly Stable Diffusion, have revolutionized the field of computer vision. However, the synthesis quality often deteriorates when asked to generate images that faithfully represent complex prompts involving multiple attributes and objects. While previous studies suggest that blended text embeddings lead to improper attribute binding, few have explored this in depth. In this work, we critically examine the limitations of the CLIP text encoder in understanding attributes and investigate how this affects diffusion models. We discern a phenomenon of attribute bias in the text space and highlight a contextual issue in padding embeddings that entangle different concepts. We propose \textbf{Magnet}, a novel training-free approach to tackle the attribute binding problem. We introduce positive and negative binding vectors to enhance disentanglement, further with a neighbor strategy to increase accuracy. Extensive experiments show that Magnet significantly improves synthesis quality and binding accuracy with negligible computational cost, enabling the generation of unconventional and unnatural concepts.

Learning Parameterized Quantum Circuits with Quantum Gradient

Parameterized quantum circuits (PQCs) are crucial for quantum machine learning and circuit synthesis, enabling the practical implementation of complex quantum tasks. However, PQC learning has been largely confined to classical optimization methods, which suffer from issues like gradient vanishing. In this work, we introduce a nested optimization model that leverages quantum gradient to enhance PQC learning for polynomial-type cost functions. Our approach utilizes quantum algorithms to identify and overcome a type of gradient vanishing-a persistent challenge in PQC learning-by effectively navigating the optimization landscape. We also mitigate potential barren plateaus of our model and manage the learning cost via restricting the optimization region. Numerically, we demonstrate the feasibility of the approach on two tasks: the Max-Cut problem and polynomial optimization. The method excels in generating circuits without gradient vanishing and effectively optimizes the cost function. From the perspective of quantum algorithms, our model improves quantum optimization for polynomial-type cost functions, addressing the challenge of exponential sample complexity growth.

Bridging Domain Gap of Point Cloud Representations via Self-Supervised Geometric Augmentation

Recent progress of semantic point clouds analysis is largely driven by synthetic data (e.g., the ModelNet and the ShapeNet), which are typically complete, well-aligned and noisy free. Therefore, representations of those ideal synthetic point clouds have limited variations in the geometric perspective and can gain good performance on a number of 3D vision tasks such as point cloud classification. In the context of unsupervised domain adaptation (UDA), representation learning designed for synthetic point clouds can hardly capture domain invariant geometric patterns from incomplete and noisy point clouds. To address such a problem, we introduce a novel scheme for induced geometric invariance of point cloud representations across domains, via regularizing representation learning with two self-supervised geometric augmentation tasks. On one hand, a novel pretext task of predicting translation distances of augmented samples is proposed to alleviate centroid shift of point clouds due to occlusion and noises. On the other hand, we pioneer an integration of the relational self-supervised learning on geometrically-augmented point clouds in a cascade manner, utilizing the intrinsic relationship of augmented variants and other samples as extra constraints of cross-domain geometric features. Experiments on the PointDA-10 dataset demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed method, achieving the state-of-the-art performance.

Diff-PCC: Diffusion-based Neural Compression for 3D Point Clouds

Stable diffusion networks have emerged as a groundbreaking development for their ability to produce realistic and detailed visual content. This characteristic renders them ideal decoders, capable of producing high-quality and aesthetically pleasing reconstructions. In this paper, we introduce the first diffusion-based point cloud compression method, dubbed Diff-PCC, to leverage the expressive power of the diffusion model for generative and aesthetically superior decoding. Different from the conventional autoencoder fashion, a dual-space latent representation is devised in this paper, in which a compressor composed of two independent encoding backbones is considered to extract expressive shape latents from distinct latent spaces. At the decoding side, a diffusion-based generator is devised to produce high-quality reconstructions by considering the shape latents as guidance to stochastically denoise the noisy point clouds. Experiments demonstrate that the proposed Diff-PCC achieves state-of-the-art compression performance (e.g., 7.711 dB BD-PSNR gains against the latest G-PCC standard at ultra-low bitrate) while attaining superior subjective quality. MUSTER: A Multi-scale Transformer-based Decoder for Semantic Segmentation

In recent works on semantic segmentation, there has been a significant focus on designing and integrating transformer-based encoders. However, less attention has been given to transformer-based decoders. We emphasize that the decoder stage is equally vital as the encoder in achieving superior segmentation performance. It disentangles and refines high-level cues, enabling precise object boundary delineation at the pixel level. In this paper, we introduce a novel transformer-based decoder called MUSTER, which seamlessly integrates with hierarchical encoders and consistently delivers high-quality segmentation results, regardless of the encoder architecture. Furthermore, we present a variant of MUSTER that reduces FLOPS while maintaining performance. MUSTER incorporates carefully designed multi-head skip attention (MSKA) units and introduces innovative upsampling operations. The MSKA units enable the fusion of multi-scale features from the encoder and decoder, facilitating comprehensive information integration. The upsampling operation leverages encoder features to enhance object localization and surpasses traditional upsampling methods, improving mIoU (mean Intersection over Union) by 0.4% to 3.2%. On the challenging ADE20K dataset, our best model achieves a single-scale mIoU of 50.23 and a multi-scale mIoU of 51.88, which is on-par with the current state-of-the-art model. Remarkably, we achieve this while significantly reducing the number of FLOPs by 61.3%. Our source code and models are publicly available at: https://github.com/shiwt03/MUSTER.

Unified Unsupervised Salient Object Detection via Knowledge Transfer

Recently, unsupervised salient object detection (USOD) has gained increasing attention due to its annotation-free nature. However, current methods mainly focus on specific tasks such as RGB and RGB-D, neglecting the potential for task migration. In this paper, we propose a unified USOD framework for generic USOD tasks. Firstly, we propose a Progressive Curriculum Learning-based Saliency Distilling (PCL-SD) mechanism to extract saliency cues from a pre-trained deep network. This mechanism starts with easy samples and progressively moves towards harder ones, to avoid initial interference caused by hard samples. Afterwards, the obtained saliency cues are utilized to train a saliency detector, and we employ a Self-rectify Pseudo-label Refinement (SPR) mechanism to improve the quality of pseudo-labels. Finally, an adapter-tuning method is devised to transfer the acquired saliency knowledge, leveraging shared knowledge to attain superior transferring performance on the target tasks. Extensive experiments on five representative SOD tasks confirm the effectiveness and feasibility of our proposed method. Global Attention-Guided Dual-Domain Point Cloud Feature Learning for Classification and Segmentation

Previous studies have demonstrated the effectiveness of point-based neural models on the point cloud analysis task. However, there remains a crucial issue on producing the efficient input embedding for raw point coordinates. Moreover, another issue lies in the limited efficiency of neighboring aggregations, which is a critical component in the network stem. In this paper, we propose a Global Attention-guided Dual-domain Feature Learning network (GAD) to address the above-mentioned issues. We first devise the Contextual Position-enhanced Transformer (CPT) module, which is armed with an improved global attention mechanism, to produce a global-aware input embedding that serves as the guidance to subsequent aggregations. Then, the Dual-domain K-nearest neighbor Feature Fusion (DKFF) is cascaded to conduct effective feature aggregation through novel dual-domain feature learning which appreciates both local geometric relations and long-distance semantic connections. Extensive experiments on multiple point cloud analysis tasks (e.g., classification, part segmentation, and scene semantic segmentation) demonstrate the superior performance of the proposed method and the efficacy of the devised modules.

DSMix: Distortion-Induced Sensitivity Map Based Pre-training for No-Reference Image Quality Assessment

Image quality assessment (IQA) has long been a fundamental challenge in image understanding. In recent years, deep learning-based IQA methods have shown promising performance. However, the lack of large amounts of labeled data in the IQA field has hindered further advancements in these methods. This paper introduces DSMix, a novel data augmentation technique specifically designed for IQA tasks, aiming to overcome this limitation. DSMix leverages the distortion-induced sensitivity map (DSM) of an image as prior knowledge. It applies cut and mix operations to diverse categories of synthetic distorted images, assigning confidence scores to class labels based on the aforementioned prior knowledge. In the pre-training phase using DSMix-augmented data, knowledge distillation is employed to enhance the model's ability to extract semantic features. Experimental results on both synthetic and authentic IQA datasets demonstrate the significant predictive and generalization performance achieved by DSMix, without requiring fine-tuning of the full model. CDFormer:When Degradation Prediction Embraces Diffusion Model for Blind Image Super-Resolution

Existing Blind image Super-Resolution (BSR) methods focus on estimating either kernel or degradation information, but have long overlooked the essential content details. In this paper, we propose a novel BSR approach, Content-aware Degradation-driven Transformer (CDFormer), to capture both degradation and content representations. However, low-resolution images cannot provide enough content details, and thus we introduce a diffusion-based module $CDFormer_{diff}$ to first learn Content Degradation Prior (CDP) in both low- and high-resolution images, and then approximate the real distribution given only low-resolution information. Moreover, we apply an adaptive SR network $CDFormer_{SR}$ that effectively utilizes CDP to refine features. Compared to previous diffusion-based SR methods, we treat the diffusion model as an estimator that can overcome the limitations of expensive sampling time and excessive diversity. Experiments show that CDFormer can outperform existing methods, establishing a new state-of-the-art performance on various benchmarks under blind settings. Codes and models will be available at \href{https://github.com/I2-Multimedia-Lab/CDFormer}{https://github.com/I2-Multimedia-Lab/CDFormer}.

Puff-Net: Efficient Style Transfer with Pure Content and Style Feature Fusion Network

Style transfer aims to render an image with the artistic features of a style image, while maintaining the original structure. Various methods have been put forward for this task, but some challenges still exist. For instance, it is difficult for CNN-based methods to handle global information and long-range dependencies between input images, for which transformer-based methods have been proposed. Although transformers can better model the relationship between content and style images, they require high-cost hardware and time-consuming inference. To address these issues, we design a novel transformer model that includes only the encoder, thus significantly reducing the computational cost. In addition, we also find that existing style transfer methods may lead to images under-stylied or missing content. In order to achieve better stylization, we design a content feature extractor and a style feature extractor, based on which pure content and style images can be fed to the transformer. Finally, we propose a novel network termed Puff-Net, i.e., pure content and style feature fusion network. Through qualitative and quantitative experiments, we demonstrate the advantages of our model compared to state-of-the-art ones in the literature.

Pointsoup: High-Performance and Extremely Low-Decoding-Latency Learned Geometry Codec for Large-Scale Point Cloud Scenes

Despite considerable progress being achieved in point cloud geometry compression, there still remains a challenge in effectively compressing large-scale scenes with sparse surfaces. Another key challenge lies in reducing decoding latency, a crucial requirement in real-world application. In this paper, we propose Pointsoup, an efficient learning-based geometry codec that attains high-performance and extremely low-decoding-latency simultaneously. Inspired by conventional Trisoup codec, a point model-based strategy is devised to characterize local surfaces. Specifically, skin features are embedded from local windows via an attention-based encoder, and dilated windows are introduced as cross-scale priors to infer the distribution of quantized features in parallel. During decoding, features undergo fast refinement, followed by a folding-based point generator that reconstructs point coordinates with fairly fast speed. Experiments show that Pointsoup achieves state-of-the-art performance on multiple benchmarks with significantly lower decoding complexity, i.e., up to 90$\sim$160$\times$ faster than the G-PCCv23 Trisoup decoder on a comparatively low-end platform (e.g., one RTX 2080Ti). Furthermore, it offers variable-rate control with a single neural model (2.9MB), which is attractive for industrial practitioners.
