Uniqueness of two-convex closed ancient solutions to the mean curvature flow

In this paper we consider closed non-collapsed ancient solutions to the mean curvature flow ($n \ge 2$) which are uniformly two-convex. We prove that any two such ancient solutions are the same up to translations and scaling. In particular, they must coincide up to translations and scaling with the rotationally symmetric closed ancient non-collapsed solution constructed by Brian White in (2000), and by Robert Haslhofer and Or Hershkovits in (2016).

Asymptotic behavior of flows by powers of the Gaussian curvature

We consider a one-parameter family of strictly convex hypersurfaces in $\mathbb{R}^{n+1}$ moving with speed $- K^αν$, where $ν$ denotes the outward-pointing unit normal vector and $α\geq \frac{1}{n+2}$. For $α> \frac{1}{n+2}$, we show that the flow converges to a round sphere after rescaling. In the affine invariant case $α=\frac{1}{n+2}$, our arguments give an alternative proof of the fact that the flow converges to an ellipsoid after rescaling.

Inverse mean curvature evolution of entire graphs

We study the evolution of strictly mean-convex entire graphs over $R^n$ by Inverse Mean Curvature flow. First we establish the global existence of starshaped entire graphs with superlinear growth at infinity. The main result in this work concerns the critical case of asymptotically conical entire convex graphs. In this case we show that there exists a time $ T < +\infty$, which depends on the growth at infinity of the initial data, such that the unique solution of the flow exists for all $t < T$. Moreover, as $t \to T$ the solution converges to a flat plane. Our techniques exploit the ultra-fast diffusion character of the fully-nonlinear flow, a property that implies that the asymptotic behavior at spatial infinity of our solution plays a crucial influence on the maximal time of existence, as such behavior propagates infinitely fast towards the interior.

Yamabe Flow: steady solitons and type II singularities

We study the convergence of complete non-compact conformally flat solutions to the Yamabe flow to Yamabe steady solitons. We also prove the existence of Type II singularities which develop at either a finite time $T$ or as $t \to +\infty$.

Weak and smooth solutions for a fractional Yamabe flow: the case of general compact and locally conformally flat manifolds

As a counterpart of the classical Yamabe problem, a fractional Yamabe flow has been introduced by Jin and Xiong (2014) on the sphere. Here we pursue its study in the context of general compact smooth manifolds with positive fractional curvature. First, we prove that the flow is locally well posed in the weak sense on any compact manifold. If the manifold is locally conformally flat with positive Yamabe invariant, we also prove that the flow is smooth and converges to a constant scalar curvature metric. We provide different proofs using extension properties introduced by Chang and González (2011) for the conformally covariant fractional order operators.

Uniqueness of closed self-similar solutions to the Gauss curvature flow

We show the uniqueness of strictly convex closed smooth self-similar solutions to the $α$-Gauss curvature flow with $(1/n) < α< 1+(1/n)$. We introduce a Pogorelov type computation, and then we apply the strong maximum principle. Our work combined with earlier works on the Gauss Curvature flow imply that the $α$-Gauss curvature flow with $(1/n) < α< 1+(1/n)$ shrinks a strictly convex closed smooth hypersurface to a round sphere.

The evolution of complete non-compact graphs by powers of Gauss curvature

We study the evolution of convex complete non-compact graphs by positive powers of Gauss curvature. We show that if the initial complete graph has a local uniform convexity, then the graph evolves by any positive power of Gauss curvature for all time. In particular, the initial graph is not necessarily differentiable.

The $Q_k$ flow on complete non-compact graphs

We consider the $Q_k$ flow on complete non-compact graphs. We prove that a complete graph evolves by the $Q_k$ curvature up to some time $T$ depending on the radius of a sphere enclosed by the initial graph.

New type I ancient compact solutions of the Yamabe flow

We construct new ancient compact solutions to the Yamabe flow. Our solutions are rotationally symmetric and converge, as $t \to -\infty$, to two self-similar complete non-compact solutions to the Yamabe flow moving in opposite directions. They are type I ancient solutions.

C^{1,1} regularity for degenerate elliptic obstacle problems

The Heston stochastic volatility process is a degenerate diffusion process where the degeneracy in the diffusion coefficient is proportional to the square root of the distance to the boundary of the half-plane. The generator of this process with killing, called the elliptic Heston operator, is a second-order, degenerate-elliptic partial differential operator, where the degeneracy in the operator symbol is proportional to the distance to the boundary of the half-plane. In mathematical finance, solutions to the obstacle problem for the elliptic Heston operator correspond to value functions for perpetual American-style options on the underlying asset. With the aid of weighted Sobolev spaces and weighted Holder spaces, we establish the optimal $C^{1,1}$ regularity (up to the boundary of the half-plane) for solutions to obstacle problems for the elliptic Heston operator when the obstacle functions are sufficiently smooth.

Unique asymptotics of ancient convex mean curvature flow solutions

We study the compact noncollapsed ancient convex solutions to Mean Curvature Flow in $\mathbb{R}^{n+1}$ with $O(1)\times O(n)$ symmetry. We show they all have unique asymptotics as $t\to -\infty$ and we give precise asymptotic description of these solutions. In particular, solutions constructed by White, and Haslhofer and Hershkovits have those asymptotics (in the case of those particular solutions the asymptotics was predicted and formally computed by Angenent).

Extinction profile of complete non-compact solutions to the Yamabe flow

This work addresses the {\em singularity formation} of complete non-compact solutions to the conformally flat Yamabe flow whose conformal factors have {\em cylindrical behavior at infinity}. Their singularity profiles happen to be {\em Yamabe solitons}, which are {\em self-similar solutions} to the fast diffusion equation satisfied by the conformal factor of the evolving metric. The self-similar profile is determined by the second order asymptotics at infinity of the initial data which is matched with that of the corresponding self-similar solution. Solutions may become extinct at the extinction time $T$ of the cylindrical tail or may live longer than $T$. In the first case the singularity profile is described by a {\em Yamabe shrinker} that becomes extinct at time $T$. In the second case, the singularity profile is described by a {\em singular} Yamabe shrinker slightly before $T$ and by a matching {\em Yamabe expander} slightly after $T$ .

Type II ancient compact solutions to the Yamabe flow

We construct new type II ancient compact solutions to the Yamabe flow. Our solutions are rotationally symmetric and converge, as $t \to -\infty$, to a tower of two spheres. Their curvature operator changes sign. We allow two time-dependent parameters in our ansatz. We use perturbation theory, via fixed point arguments, based on sharp estimates on ancient solutions of the approximated linear equation and careful estimation of the error terms which allow us to make the right choice of parameters. Our technique may be viewed as a parabolic analogue of gluing two exact solutions to the rescaled equation, that is the spheres, with narrow cylindrical necks to obtain a new ancient solution to the Yamabe flow. The techniques in this article may be generalized to the gluing of $n$ spheres.

Fully Degenerate Monge Ampére Equations

In this paper, we consider the following nonlinear eigenvalue problem for the Monge-Ampére equation: find a non-negative weakly convex classical solution $f$ satisfying {equation*} {cases} \det D^2 f=f^p \quad &\text{in $Ω$} f=\vp \quad &text{on $\partialΩ$} {cases} {equation*} for a strictly convex smooth domain $Ω\subset\R^2$ and $0 0\}}$ and whose free boundary $\partial\{f=0\}$ is also smooth.

Classification of singularities in the complete conformally flat Yamabe flow

We show that an eternal solution to a complete, locally conformally flat Yamabe flow, $\frac{\partial}{\partial t} g = -Rg$, with uniformly bounded scalar curvature and positive Ricci curvature at $t = 0$, where the scalar curvature assumes its maximum is a gradient steady soliton. As an application of that, we study the blow up behavior of $g(t)$ at the maximal time of existence, $T < \infty$. We assume that $(M,g(\cdot, t))$ satisfies (i) the injectivity radius bound {\bf or} (ii) the Schouten tensor is positive at time $t = 0$ and the scalar curvature bounded at each time-slice. We show that the singularity the flow develops at time $T$ is always of type I.

Classification of compact ancient solutions to the Ricci flow on surfaces

We consider an ancient solution $g(\cdot,t)$ of the Ricci flow on a compact surface that exists for $t\in (-\infty,T)$ and becomes spherical at time $t=T$. We prove that the metric $g(\cdot,t)$ is either a family of contracting spheres, which is a type I ancient solution, or a Rosenau solution, which is a type II ancient solution.
