Coherence of quantum channels

We investigate the coherence of quantum channels using the Choi-Jamiołkowski isomorphism. The relation between the coherence and the purity of the channel respects a duality relation. It characterizes the allowed values of coherence when the channel has certain purity. This duality has been depicted via the Coherence-Purity (Co-Pu) diagrams. In particular, we study the quantum coherence of the unital and non-unital qubit channels and find out the allowed region of coherence for a fixed purity. We also study coherence of different incoherent channels, namely, incoherent operation (IO), strictly incoherent operation (SIO), physical incoherent operation (PIO) etc. Interestingly, we find that the allowed region for different incoherent operations maintain the relation $PIO\subset SIO \subset IO$. In fact, we find that if PIOs are coherence preserving operations (CPO), its coherence is zero otherwise it has unit coherence and unit purity. Interestingly, different kinds of qubit channels can be distinguished using the Co-Pu diagram. The unital channels generally do not create coherence whereas some nonunital can. All coherence breaking channels are shown to have zero coherence, whereas, this is not usually true for entanglement breaking channels. It turns out that the coherence preserving qubit channels have unit coherence. Although the coherence of the Choi matrix of the incoherent channels might have finite values, its subsystem contains no coherence. This indicates that the incoherent channels can either be unital or nonunital under some conditions.

Mutual Uncertainty, Conditional Uncertainty and Strong Sub-Additivity

We introduce a new concept called as the mutual uncertainty between two observables in a given quantum state which enjoys similar features like the mutual information for two random variables. Further, we define the conditional uncertainty as well as conditional variance and show that conditioning on more observable reduces the uncertainty. Given three observables, we prove a 'strong sub-additivity' relation for the conditional uncertainty under certain condition. As an application, we show that using the conditional variance one can detect bipartite higher dimensional entangled states. The efficacy of our detection method lies in the fact that it gives better detection criteria than most of the existing criteria based on geometry of the states. Interestingly, we find that for $N$-qubit product states, the mutual uncertainty is exactly equal to $N-\sqrt{N}$, and if it is other than this value, the state is entangled. We also show that using the mutual uncertainty between two observables, one can detect non-Gaussian steering where Reid's criteria fails to detect. Our results may open up a new direction of exploration in quantum theory and quantum information using the mutual uncertainty, conditional uncertainty and the strong sub-additivity for multiple observables.

Probing the Type-II Seesaw Mechanism through the Production of Higgs Bosons at a Lepton Collider

We investigate the production and decays of doubly-charged Higgs bosons for the Type-II seesaw mechanism at an $e^{+} e^{-}$ collider with two center of mass energies, $\sqrt{s}=380$ GeV and 3 TeV, and analyze the fully hadronic final states in detail. Lower mass ranges can be probed during the 380 GeV run of the collider, while high mass ranges, which are beyond the 13 TeV Large Hadron Collider discovery reach, can be probed with $\sqrt{s}=3$ TeV. For such a heavy Higgs boson, the final decay products are collimated, resulting in fat-jets. We perform a substructure analysis to reduce the background and find that a doubly-charged Higgs boson in the mass range 800-1120 GeV can be discovered during the 3 TeV run, with integrated luminosity $\mathcal{L} \sim 95\, \rm{fb}^{-1}$ of data. For 380 GeV center of mass energy, we find that for the doubly-charged Higgs boson in the range 160-172 GeV, a $5σ$ significance can be achieved with only integrated luminosity $\mathcal{L} \sim 24 \, \rm{fb}^{-1}$. Therefore, a light Higgs boson can be discovered immediately during the run of a future $e^{+} e^{-}$ collider.

Production of $HHH$ and $HHV(V=γ,Z)$ at the hadron colliders

We consider the production of two Higgs bosons in association with a gauge boson or another Higgs boson at the hadron colliders. We compute the cross sections and distributions for the processes $ p p \to H H H $ and $H H Z$ within the standard model. In particular, we compute the gluon-gluon fusion one-loop contributions mediated via heavy quarks in the loop. It is the leading order contribution to $ p p \to H H H $ process. To the process $ p p \to H H Z $, it is next-to-next-to-leading-order (NNLO) contribution in QCD coupling. We also compare this contribution to the next-to-leading-order (NLO) QCD contribution to this process. The NNLO contribution can be similar to NLO contribution at the Large Hadron Collider (LHC), and significantly more at higher center-of-mass energy machines. We also study new physics effects in these processes by considering $ttH, HHH, HHHH, HZZ$, and $HHZZ$ interactions as anomalous. The anomalous couplings can enhance the cross sections significantly. The $gg \to HHH$ process is specially sensitive to anomalous trilinear Higgs boson self-coupling. For the $gg \to HHZ$ process, there is some modest dependence on anomalous $HZZ$ couplings.

New Bell inequalities for three-qubit pure states

We introduce a set of Bell inequalities for a three-qubit system. Each inequality within this set is violated by all generalized GHZ states. More entangled a generalized GHZ state is, more will be the violation. This establishes a relation between nonlocality and entanglement for this class of states. Certain inequalities within this set are violated by pure biseparable states. We also provide numerical evidence that at least one of these Bell inequalities is violated by a pure genuinely entangled state. These Bell inequalities can distinguish between separable, biseparable and genuinely entangled pure three-qubit states. We also generalize this set to n-qubit systems and may be suitable to characterize the entanglement of n-qubit pure states.

Measuring higher-dimensional entanglement

We study local-realistic inequalities, Bell-type inequalities, for bipartite pure states of finite dimensional quantum systems -- qudits. There are a number of proposed Bell-type inequalities for such systems. Our interest is in relating the value of Bell-type inequality function with a measure of entanglement. Interestingly, we find that one of these inequalities, the Son-Lee-Kim inequality, can be used to measure entanglement of a pure bipartite qudit state and a class of mixed two-qudit states. Unlike the majority of earlier schemes in this direction, where number of observables needed to characterize the entanglement increases with the dimension of the subsystems, this method needs only four observables. We also discuss the experimental feasibility of this scheme. It turns out that current experimental set ups can be used to measure the entanglement using our scheme.

A Few Finite Trigonometric Sums

Finite trigonometric sums occur in various branches of physics, mathematics, and their applications. These sums may contain various powers of one or more trigonometric functions. Sums with one trigonometric function are known, however sums with products of trigonometric functions can get complicated and may not have a simple expressions in a number of cases. Some of these sums have interesting properties and can have amazingly simple value. However, only some of them are available in literature. We obtain a number of such sums using method of residues.

The Hardy's nonlocality argument

Certain predictions of quantum theory are not compatible with the notion of local-realism. This was the content of Bell's famous theorem of the year 1964. Bell proved this with the help of an inequality, famously known as Bell's inequality. The alternative proofs of Bell's theorem without using Bell's inequality are known as `nonlocality without inequality (NLWI)' proofs. We, review one such proof, namely the Hardy's proof which due to its simplicity and generality has been considered the best version of Bell's theorem.

Gluon fusion contribution to $HBB$ ($B = H,γ, Z$) at the LHC

We have calculated one-loop amplitudes for the production of Higgs boson in association with two electroweak bosons ($H,γ,Z$) via gluon-gluon fusion. We present preliminary results for the total cross section at 8, 13 and 100 TeV center-of-mass energies at $pp$ colliders. We study the interference effect and, also comment on the effect of new physics in terms of anomalous couplings of the Higgs boson in these processes.

Local, nonlocal quantumness and information theoretic measures

It has been suggested that there may exist quantum correlations that go beyond entanglement. The existence of such correlations can be revealed by quantum discord, but not by the conventional measure of entanglement. We argue that a state displays quantumness that can be of local and nonlocal origin. The physical quantity such as the quantum discord probes not only the nonlocal quantumness but also the local quantumness, such as the "local superposition". This can be a reason why such measures are non-zero when there is no entanglement. We consider a generalized version of the Werner state to demonstrate the interplay of local quantumness, nonlocal quantumness, and classical mixedness of a state.

Gluon Fusion Contribution to $VHj$ Production at Hadron Colliders

We study the associated production of an electroweak vector boson and the Higgs boson with a jet via gluon-gluon fusion. At the leading order, these processes occur at one-loop level. The amplitudes of these one-loop processes are gauge invariant and finite. Therefore, their contributions towards the corresponding hadronic cross sections and kinematic distributions can be calculated separately. We present results for the Large Hadron Collider and its discussed upgrades. We find that the gluon-gluon one-loop process gives dominant contribution to the $γH j$ production. We observe a destructive interference effect in the $gg\to Z H j$ amplitude. We also find that in the high transverse momentum and central rapidity region, the $ZHj$ production cross section via gluon-gluon fusion becomes comparable to the cross section contributions coming from quark-quark and quark-gluon channels.

Dilepton Signatures of the Higgs Boson with Tau-jet Tagging

We consider the process $p p \to t {\bar t} H$. This process can give rise to many signatures of the Higgs boson. The signatures can have electrons, muons and jets. We consider the signatures that have two electrons/muons and jets. Tagging of a tau jet and a bottom jet can help reduce the backgrounds significantly. In particular, we examine the usefulness of the signatures "isolated 2 electrons/muons + a bottom jet + a tau jet", "isolated 2 electrons/muons + 2 tau jets", "isolated 2 electrons/muons + 2 bottom jets + a tau jet", and "isolated 2 electrons/muons + a bottom jet + 2 tau jets". We find that signatures with two tau jets are useful. The signatures with one tau jet are also useful, if we restrict to same-sign electrons/muons. These requirements reduce the backgrounds due the process with Z-bosons + jets and the production of a pair of top quarks. We show that these signatures may be visible in the run II of the Large Hadron Collider.

CTC assisted PR box type correlation can lead to signaling

It is known that there exist non-local correlations that respect no-signaling criterion, but violate Bell-type inequalities more than quantum-mechanical correlations. Such super quantum correlations were introduced as the Popescu-Rohrlich (PR) box. We consider such non-local boxes with two/three inputs and two/three outputs. We show that these super quantum correlations can lead to signaling when at least one of the input bit has access to a word line along a closed time-like curve.

Effect of Anomalous Couplings on the Associated Production of a Single Top Quark and a Higgs Boson at the LHC

We consider the production of a single top quark in association with a Higgs boson at the LHC. In particular, we compute the cross sections for the processes $ p p \to t h j$, $t h b$, $t h W$, $t h j j$, $t h j b$, $t h W j$, $t h W b$ in the presence of the anomalous $Wtb, WWh$ and $tth$ couplings. We find that the anomalous $Wtb$ and $tth$ couplings can enhance the cross sections significantly. We also analyze a few signatures and show that, if these couplings are indeed anomalous, then with enough data, one should be able to observe the production of the Higgs boson in association with single top quark.

Multilepton Signatures of the Higgs Boson through its Production in Association with a Top-quark Pair

We consider the possible production of the Higgs Boson in association with a top-quark pair and its subsequent decay into a tau-lepton pair or a W-boson pair. This process can give rise to many signatures of the Higgs boson. These signatures can have electrons, muons, tau jets, bottom jets and/or light flavour jets. We analyze the viability of some of these signatures. We will look at those signatures where the background is minimal. In particular, we explore the viability of the signatures "isolated 4 electron/muon" and "isolated 3 electron/muon + a jet" The jet can be due to a light flavour quark/gluon, a bottom quark, or a tau lepton. Of all these signatures, we find that "isolated 3 electron/muon + a tau jet", with an extra bottom jet, can be an excellent signature of this mode of the Higgs boson production. We show that this signature may be visible within a year, once the Large Hadron Collider (LHC) restarts. Some of the other signatures would also be observable after the LHC accumulates sufficient luminosity.

Production of $γZ g$ and associated processes via gluon fusion at hadron colliders

We present results for the process $gg \to γZ g$ within the standard model at hadron colliders. Due to large gluon flux at the LHC and the proposed HE-LHC, this process can have significant cross section at these machines. Several thousand such events have already been produced at the LHC according to the standard model predictions. This process can also be a background to new physics signals. We discuss some of the important features of this process related to the structure of its amplitude. We also compute the total cross section at the hadron colliders and give some important kinematic distributions. A comparison of our results is made with the corresponding NLO calculation using MCFM program. We briefly discuss the production of $γγg $ and $γγZ$ via gluon fusion. The amplitude of these processes are closely related to the $gg \toγZ g$ amplitude.

Generalized form of optimal teleportation witnesses

We propose a generalized form of optimal teleportation witness to demonstrate their importance in experimental detection of the larger set of entangled states useful for teleportation in higher dimensional systems. The interesting properties of our witness reveal that teleportation witness can be used to characterize mixed state entanglement using Schmidt numbers. Our results show that while every teleportation witness is also a entanglement witness, the converse is not true. Also, we show that a hermitian operator is a teleportation witness iff it is a decomposable entanglement witness. In addition, we analyze the practical significance of our study by decomposing our teleportation witness in terms of Pauli and Gell-Mann matrices, which are experimentally measurable quantities.

Di-Vector Boson + Jet Production via Gluon Fusion at Hadron Colliders

We study the production of two electro-weak vector bosons in association with a jet via gluon fusion. In particular we consider the production of $γZg$, $ZZg$ and $W^{+}W^{-}g$ at hadron colliders and compute their cross-sections. Such processes have already produced large number of events at the Large Hadron Collider (LHC) by now. These processes can be background to the Higgs boson production and a number of beyond the standard model scenarios. Therefore it is important to know the values of their contribution. The calculation is based on conventional Feynman diagram approach. In particular we find that the process $g g \to Z Z g$ can make a significant contribution to the process $p p \to Z Z + {\rm jet}$.
