Milstein schemes and antithetic multilevel Monte Carlo sampling for delay McKean-Vlasov equations and interacting particle systems

In this paper, we first derive Milstein schemes for an interacting particle system associated with point delay McKean-Vlasov stochastic differential equations (McKean-Vlasov SDEs), possibly with a drift term exhibiting super-linear growth in the state component. We prove strong convergence of order one and moment stability, making use of techniques from variational calculus on the space of probability measures with finite second order moments. Then, we introduce an antithetic multilevel Milstein scheme, which leads to optimal complexity estimators for expected functionals of solutions to delay McKean-Vlasov equations without the need to simulate Lévy areas.

Singular Degenerate SDEs: Well-Posedness and Exponential Ergodicity

The well-posedness and exponential ergodicity are proved for stochastic Hamiltonian systems containing a singular drift term which is locally integrable in the component with noise. As an application, the well-posedness and uniform exponential ergodicity are derived for a class of singular degenerated McKean-Vlasov SDEs.

Distribution-Path Dependent Nonlinear SPDEs with Application to Stochastic Transport Type Equations

By using a regularity approximation argument, the global existence and uniqueness are derived for a class of nonlinear SPDEs depending on both the whole history and the distribution under strong enough noise. As applications, the global existence and uniqueness are proved for distribution-path dependent stochastic transport type equations, which are arising from stochastic fluid mechanics with forces depending on the history and the environment. In particular, the distribution-path dependent stochastic Camassa--Holm equation with or without Coriolis effect has a unique global solution when the noise is strong enough, whereas for the deterministic model wave-breaking may occur. This indicates that the noise may prevent blow-up almost surely.

Singular McKean-Vlasov SDEs: Well-Posedness, Regularities and Wangs Harnack Inequality

The well-posedness and regularity estimates in initial distributions are derived for singular McKean-Vlasov SDEs, where the drift contains a locally standard integrable term and a superlinear term in the spatial variable, and is Lipchitz continuous in the distribution variable with respect to a weighted variation distance. When the superlinear term is strengthened to be Lipschitz continuous, Wangs Harnack inequality is established. These results are new also for the classical Ito SDEs where the coefficients are distribution independent.

Derivative Formulas in Measure on Riemannian Manifolds

We characterise the link of derivatives in measure, which are introduced in [AKR,Card,ORS] respectively by different means, for functions on the space $\mathbb M$ of finite measures over a Riemannian manifold $M$. For a reasonable class of functions $f$, the extrinsic derivative $D^Ef$ coincides with the linear functional derivative $D^Ff$, the intrinsic derivative $D^If$ equals to the $L$-derivative $D^Lf$, and $$D^If(η)(x)= D^{L}f(η)(x)= \lim_{s\downarrow 0} \frac 1 s \nabla f(η+s δ_\cdot)(x) = \nabla \big\{D^E f (η)\big\}(x), \ \ (x,η)\in M\times\mathbb M,$$ where $\nabla$ is the gradient on $M$, $δ_x$ is the Dirac measure at $x$, and $$D^Ef(η)(x):= \lim\limits_{s\downarrow 0} \frac { f(η+s δ_x)-f(η)} s,\ \ x\in M$$ is the extrinsic derivative of $f$ at $η\in \mathbb M$. This gives a simple way to calculate the intrinsic or $L$-derivative, and is extended to functions of probability measures. %This provides a simple way to calculate the intrinsic/Lions derivative.

Bismut Formula for Lions Derivative of Distribution Dependent SDEs and Applications

By using Malliavin calculus, Bismut type formulas are established for the Lions derivative of $P_tf(μ):=\mathbb E f(X_t^μ)$, where $t>0,$ $ f $ is a bounded measurable function, and $X_t^μ$ solves a distribution dependent SDE with initial distribution $μ$. As applications, explicit estimates are derived for the Lions derivative and the total variational distance between distributions of solutions with different initial data. Both degenerate and non-degenerate situations are considered. Due to the lack of the semigroup property and the invalidity of the formula $P_tf (μ)= \int P_tf(x)μ(d x)$, essential difficulties are overcome in the study.

Bismut Formula for Lions Derivative of Distribution-Path Dependent SDEs

To characterize the regularity of distribution-path dependent SDEs in the initial distribution which varies in the class of probability measures on the path space, we introduce the intrinsic and Lions derivatives for probability measures on Banach spaces, and prove the chain rule of the Lions derivative for the distribution of Banach-valued random variables. By using Malliavin calculus, we establish the Bismut type formula for the Lions derivatives of functional solutions to SDEs with distribution-path dependent drifts. When the noise term is also path dependent so that the Bismut formula is invalid, we establish the asymptotic Bismut formula. Both non-degenerate and degenerate noises are considered. The main results of this paper generalize and improve the corresponding ones derived recently in the literature for the classical SDEs with memory and McKean-Vlasov SDEs without memory.

Distribution Dependent Stochastic Differential Equations

Due to their intrinsic link with nonlinear Fokker-Planck equations and many other applications, distribution dependent stochastic differential equations (DDSDEs for short) have been intensively investigated. In this paper we summarize some recent progresses in the study of DDSDEs, which include the correspondence of weak solutions and nonlinear Fokker-Planck equations, the well-posedness, regularity estimates, exponential ergodicity, long time large deviations, and comparison theorems.

First order convergence of Milstein schemes for McKean-Vlasov equations and interacting particle systems

In this paper, we derive fully implementable first order time-stepping schemes for McKean--Vlasov stochastic differential equations (McKean--Vlasov SDEs), allowing for a drift term with super-linear growth in the state component. We propose Milstein schemes for a time-discretised interacting particle system associated with the McKean--Vlasov equation and prove strong convergence of order 1 and moment stability, taming the drift if only a one-sided Lipschitz condition holds. To derive our main results on strong convergence rates, we make use of calculus on the space of probability measures with finite second order moments. In addition, numerical examples are presented which support our theoretical findings.

Linearization of Nonlinear Fokker-Planck Equations and Applications

We associate a coupled nonlinear Fokker-Planck equation on $\R^d$, i.e. with solution paths in $\scr P$, to a linear Fokker-Planck equation for probability measures on the product space $\R^d\times \scr P$, i.e. with solution paths in $\scr P(\R^d\times\scr P)$. We explicitly determine the corresponding linear Kolmogorov operator $\tilde{\mathbf{L}}_t$ using the natural tangent bundle over $\scr P$ with corresponding gradient operator $\nabla^\scr P$. Then it is proved that the diffusion process generated by $\tilde{\mathbf{L}}_t$ on $\R^d\times\scr P$ is intrinsically related to the solution of a McKean-Vlasov stochastic differential equation (SDE). We also characterize the ergodicity of the diffusion process generated by $\tilde{\mathbf{L}}_t$ in terms of asymptotic properties of the coupled nonlinear Fokker-Planck equation. Another main result of the paper is that the restricted well-posedness of the non-linear Fokker-Planck equation and its linearized version imply the (restricted) well-posedness of the McKean-Vlasov equation and that in this case the laws of the solutions have the Markov property. All this is done under merely measurebility conditions on the coefficients in their measure dependence, hence in particular applies if the latter is of "Nemytskii-type". As a consequence, we obtain the restricted weak well-posedness and the Markov property of the so-called nonlinear distorted Brownian motion, whose associated nonlinear Fokker-Planck equation is a porous media equation perturbed by a nonlinear transport term. This realizes a programme put forward by McKean in his seminal paper of 1966 for a large class of nonlinear PDEs. As a further application we obtain a probabilistic representation of solutions to Schrödinger type PDEs on $\R^d\times\scr P_2$, through the Feynman-Kac formula for the corresponding diffusion processes.

Donsker-Varadhan Large Deviations for Path-Distribution Dependent SPDEs

As an important tool characterizing the long time behavior of Markov processes, the Donsker-Varadhan LDP (large deviation principle) does not directly apply to distribution dependent SDEs/SPDEs since the solutions are non-Markovian. We establish this type LDP for several different models of distribution dependent SDEs/SPDEs which may also with memories, by comparing the original equations with the corresponding distribution independent ones. As preparations, the existence, uniqueness and exponential convergence are also investigated for path-distribution dependent SPDEs which should be interesting by themselves.

Spectral Gap for Measure-Valued Diffusion Processes

The spectral gap is estimated for measure-valued diffusion processes induced by the intrinsic/extrinsic derivatives on the space of finite measures over a Riemannian manifold. This provides explicit exponential convergence rate for these processes to approximate the Dirichlet and Gamma distributions arising from population genetics.

Space-Distribution PDEs for Path Independent Additive Functionals of McKean-Vlasov SDEs

Let P2(Rd) be the space of probability measures on Rd with finite second moment. The path independence of additive functionals of McKean-Vlasov SDEs is characterized by PDEs on the product space Rd*P2(Rd) equipped with the usual derivative in space variable and Lions derivative in distribution. These PDEs are solved by using probabilis- tic arguments developed from [2]. In particular, the path independence of the Girsanov transformation killing the drift term is identified with a nonlinear PDE on Rd*P2(Rd), which includes corresponding results derived earlier for the classical SDEs as special situations.

Least squares estimator for path-dependent McKean-Vlasov SDEs via discrete-time observations

In this paper, we are interested in least squares estimator for a class of path-dependent McKean-Vlasov stochastic differential equations (SDEs). More precisely, we investigate the consistency and asymptotic distribution of the least squares estimator for the unknown pa- rameters involved by establishing an appropriate contrast function. Comparing to the existing results in the literature, the innovations of our paper lie in three aspects: (i) We adopt a tamed Euler-Maruyama algorithm to establish the contrast function under the monotone condition, under which the Euler-Maruyama scheme no longer works; (ii) We take the advantage of linear interpolation with respect to the discrete-time observations to approximate the functional solu- tion; (iii) Our model is more applicable and practice as we are dealing with SDEs with irregular coefficients (e.g., H"older continuous) and path-distribution dependent.

Least squares estimation for path-distribution dependent stochastic differential equations

We study a least squares estimator for an unknown parameter in the drift coefficient of a path- distribution dependent stochastic differential equation involving a small dispersion parameter epsilon greater than zero. The estimator, based on n discrete time observations of the stochastic differential equation, is shown to be convergent weakly to the true value as epsilon goes to zero and n goes to infinity. This indicates that the least squares estimator obtained is consistent with the true value. Moreover, we obtain the rate of convergence and derive the asymptotic distribution of least squares estimator.
