Bogoyavlensky--Volterra and Birkhoff Integrable Systems

In this paper we examine an interesting connection between the generalized Volterra lattices of Bogoyavlensky and a special case of an integrable system defined by Sklyanin. The Sklyanin system happens to be one of the cases in the classification of Kozlov and Treshchev of Birkhoff integrable Hamiltonian systems. Using this connection we demonstrate the integrability of the system and define a new Lax pair representation. In addition, we comment on the bi--Hamiltonian structure of the system.

Multiple Hamiltonian structure of Bogoyavlensky-Toda lattices

This paper is mainly a review of the multi--Hamiltonian nature of Toda and generalized Toda lattices corresponding to the classical simple Lie groups but it includes also some new results. The areas investigated include master symmetries, recursion operators, higher Poisson brackets, invariants and group symmetries for the systems. In addition to the positive hierarchy we also consider the negative hierarchy which is crucial in establishing the bi--Hamiltonian structure for each particular simple Lie group. Finally, we include some results on point and Noether symmetries and an interesting connection with the exponents of simple Lie groups. The case of exceptional simple Lie groups is still an open problem.

Transverse Poisson Structures to Adjoint orbits in semi-simple Lie algebras

We study the transverse Poisson structure to adjoint orbits in a complex semi-simple Lie algebra. The problem is first reduced to the case of nilpotent orbits. We prove then that in suitably chosen quasi-homogeneous coordinates the quasi-degree of the transverse Poisson structure is -2. In the particular case of {\emph subregular} nilpotent orbits we show that the structure may be computed by means of a simple determinantal formula, involving the restriction of the Chevalley invariants on the slice. In addition, using results of Brieskorn and Slodowy, the Poisson structure is reduced to a three dimensional Poisson bracket, intimately related to the simple rational singularity that corresponds to the subregular orbit.

A Gentle (without Chopping) Approach to the Full Kostant-Toda Lattice

In this paper we propose a new algorithm for obtaining the rational integrals of the full Kostant-Toda lattice. This new approach is based on a reduction of a bi-Hamiltonian system on gl(n,R). This system was obtained by reducing the space of maps from Z_n to GL(n,R) endowed with a structure of a pair of Lie-algebroids.

From the Toda Lattice to the Volterra lattice and back

We discuss the relationship between the multiple Hamiltonian structures of the generalized Toda lattices and that of the generalized Volterra lattices. We use a symmtery approach for Poisson structures that generalizes the Poisson involution theorem.
