Testing Equality of Distributions via Repeatedly Integrated Quantile Metrics Under Weak Moment Conditions

Testing whether two independent samples arise from the same underlying distribution is a fundamental statistical problem. We propose a new class of two-sample distribution tests based on a family of probability metrics $\Delta_{n,p}$, constructed from repeatedly integrated quantile functions. On their respective domains, these metrics are proved to be genuine distributional distances. The case $n=1$ recovers the $p$-Wasserstein distance, which requires finite $p$-th moments; for $n\geq2$, the proposed metrics are well defined and require only finite first moments. The asymptotic properties of the plug-in statistic are established, including strong consistency and limiting distributions under the null and fixed alternatives. A permutation calibration for finite-sample inference is also proposed. We further derive an asymptotic power function under local alternatives. Finally, the finite-sample performance of the proposed tests is examined through simulation studies, and their reduced sensitivity to extreme upper-tail observations is illustrated through a real data application.

Bi-Gaussian Mirrors for False Discovery Rate Control

Effectively controlling the false discovery rate (FDR) in high-dimensional variable selection is a fundamental statistical problem that has garnered significant research interest. In this paper, we propose a novel, user-friendly, and computationally efficient method called Bi-Gaussian Mirrors (BGM), which offers a conceptually simple yet powerful approach for FDR control. Our method makes the first attempt to achieve FDR control in high-dimensional data with complex dependencies, while overcoming key limitations of existing approaches, such as prior knowledge of the joint distribution of data, significant power loss, the need for full symmetry in test statistics, and the theoretical restriction to linear regression models. Additionally, we present a self-guiding procedure designed to enhance the practicality and applicability of the BGM method. Theoretical guarantees for FDR control and asymptotic power are rigorously established under regularity conditions. Moreover, extensive numerical simulations and two real-data examples demonstrate that the BGM method outperforms existing approaches in terms of finite-sample performance, achieving a superior balance between FDR control and testing power.

Stab-GKnock: Controlled variable selection for partially linear models using generalized knockoffs

The recently proposed fixed-X knockoff is a powerful variable selection procedure that controls the false discovery rate (FDR) in any finite-sample setting, yet its theoretical insights are difficult to show beyond Gaussian linear models. In this paper, we make the first attempt to extend the fixed-X knockoff to partially linear models by using generalized knockoff features, and propose a new stability generalized knockoff (Stab-GKnock) procedure by incorporating selection probability as feature importance score. We provide FDR control and power guarantee under some regularity conditions. In addition, we propose a two-stage method under high dimensionality by introducing a new joint feature screening procedure, with guaranteed sure screening property. Extensive simulation studies are conducted to evaluate the finite-sample performance of the proposed method. A real data example is also provided for illustration.
