Homotopy cartesian squares in extriangulated categories

Let $(\mathcal{C},\mathbb{E},\mathfrak{s})$ be an extriangulated category. Given a composition of two commutative squares in $\mathcal{C}$, if two commutative squares are homotopy cartesian, then their composition is also a homotopy cartesian. This covers the result by Mac Lane (1998) for abelian categories and the result by Christensen and Frankland (2022) for triangulated categories.

Two results of $n$-exangulated categories

$n$-exangulated categories were introduced by Herschend-Liu-Nakaoka which are a simultaneous generalization of $n$-exact categories and $(n+2)$-angulated categories. This paper consists of two results on $n$-exangulated categories: (1) we give an equivalent characterization of the axiom (EA2); (2) we provide a new way to construct a closed subfunctor of an $n$-exangulated category.

Localization of n-exangulated categories

Nakaoka-Ogawa-Sakai considered the localization of an extriangulated category. This construction unified the Serre quotient of abelian categories and the Verdier quotient of triangulated categories. Recently, Herschend-Liu-Nakaoka defined $n$-exangulated categories as a higher dimensional analogue of extriangulated categories. Let $\mathcal C$ be an $n$-exangulated category and $\mathcal{F}$ be a multiplicative system satisfying mild assumption. In this article, we give a necessary and sufficient condition for the localization of $\mathcal C$ be an $n$-exangulated category. This way gives a new class of $n$-exangulated categories which are neither $n$-exact nor $(n+2)$-angulated in general. Moreover, our result also generalizes work by Nakaoka-Ogawa-Sakai.

Auslander-Reiten-Serre duality for n-exangulated categories

Let $(\mathscr{C},\mathbb{E},\mathfrak{s})$ be an Ext-finite, Krull-Schmidt and $k$-linear $n$-exangulated category with $k$ a commutative artinian ring. In this note, we prove that $\mathscr{C}$ has Auslander-Reiten-Serre duality if and only if $\mathscr{C}$ has Auslander-Reiten $n$-exangles. Moreover, we also give an equivalent condition for the existence of Serre duality (which is a special type of Auslander-Reiten-Serre duality). Finally, assume further that $\mathscr{C}$ has Auslander-Reiten-Serre duality. We exploit a bijection triangle, which involves the restricted Auslander bijection and the Auslander-Reiten-Serre duality.

Higher Auslander-Reiten sequences via morphisms determined by objects

Let $(\mathscr{C},\mathbb{E},\mathfrak{s})$ be an ${\rm Ext}$-finite, Krull-Schmidt and $k$-linear $n$-exangulated category with $k$ a commutative artinian ring. In this note, we define two additive subcategories $\mathscr{C}_r$ and $\mathscr{C}_l$ of $\mathscr{C}$ in terms of the representable functors from the stable category of $\mathscr{C}$ to the category of finitely generated $k$-modules. Moreover, we show that there exists an equivalence between the stable categories of these two full subcategories. Finally, we give some equivalent characterizations on the existence of Auslander-Reiten $n$-exangles via determined morphisms. These results unify and extend their works by Jiao-Le for exact categories, Zhao-Tan-Huang for extriangulated categories, Xie-Liu-Yang for $n$-abelian categories.

Silting reduction in extriangulated categories

Presilting and silting subcategories in extriangulated categories were introduced by Adachi and Tsukamoto recently. In this paper, we prove that the Gabriel-Zisman localization $\mathcal B/({\rm thick}\mathcal W)$ of an extriangulated category $\mathcal B$ with respect to a presilting subcategory $\mathcal W$ satisfying certain condition can be realized as a subfactor category of $\mathcal B$. This generalizes the result by Iyama-Yang for silting reduction on triangulated categories. Then we discuss the relation between silting subcategories and tilting subcategories in extriangulated categories, this gives us a kind of important examples of our results. In particular, for a finite dimensional Gorenstein algebra, we get the relative version of the description of the singularity category due to Happel and Chen-Zhang by this reduction.

On the existence of Auslander-Reiten $n$-exangles in $n$-exangulated categories

Let $\mathscr{C}$ be an $n$-exangulated category. In this note, we show that if $\mathscr{C}$ is locally finite, then $\mathscr{C}$ has Auslander-Reiten $n$-exangles. This unifies and extends results of Xiao-Zhu, Zhu-Zhuang, Zhou and Xie-Lu-Wang for triangulated, extriangulated, $(n+2)$-angulated and $n$-abelian categories, respectively.

$n$-exact categories arising from $n$-exangulated categories

Let $\mathscr{C}$ be a Krull-Schmidt $n$-exangulated category and $\mathscr{A}$ be an $n$-extension closed subcategory of $\mathscr{C}$. Then $\mathscr{A}$ inherits the $n$-exangulated structure from the given $n$-exangulated category in a natural way. This construction gives $n$-exangulated categories which are not $n$-exact categories in the sense of Jasso nor $(n+2)$-angulated categories in the sense of Geiss-Keller-Oppermann in general. Furthermore, we also give a sufficient condition on when an $n$-exangulated category $\mathscr{A}$ is an $n$-exact category. These results generalize work by Klapproth and Zhou.

N-extension closed subcategories of (n+2)-angulated categories

Let $\mathscr C$ be a Krull-Schmidt $(n+2)$-angulated category and $\mathscr A$ be an $n$-extension closed subcategory of $\mathscr C$. Then $\mathscr A$ has the structure of an $n$-exangulated category in the sense of Herschend-Liu-Nakaoka. This construction gives $n$-exangulated categories which are not $n$-exact categories in the sense of Jasso nor $(n+2)$-angulated categories in the sense of Geiss-Keller-Oppermann in general. As an application, our result can lead to a recent main result of Klapproth.

Balanced pairs and recollements in extriangulated categories with negative first extensions

A notion of balanced pairs in an extriangulated category with a negative first extension is defined in this article. We prove that there exists a bijective correspondence between balanced pairs and proper classes $ξ$ with enough $ξ$-projectives and enough $ξ$-injectives. It can be regarded as a simultaneous generalization of Fu-Hu-Zhang-Zhu and Wang-Li-Huang. Besides, we show that if $(\mathcal A ,\mathcal B,\mathcal C)$ is a recollement of extriangulated categories, then balanced pairs in $\mathcal B$ can induce balanced pairs in $\mathcal A$ and $\mathcal C$ under natural assumptions. As a application, this result gengralizes a result by Fu-Hu-Yao in abelian categories. Moreover, it highlights a new phenomena when it applied to triangulated categories.

Higher Auslander's defect and classifying substructures of n-exangulated categories

Herschend-Liu-Nakaoka introduced the notion of $n$-exangulated categories. It is not only a higher dimensional analogue of extriangulated categories defined by Nakaoka-Palu, but also gives a simultaneous generalization of $n$-exact categories and $(n+2)$-angulated categories. In this article, we give an $n$-exangulated version of Auslander's defect and Auslander-Reiten duality formula. Moreover, we also give a classification of substructures (=closed subbifunctors) of a given skeletally small $n$-exangulated category by using the category of defects.

One-sided n-suspended categories

Let $n$ be an integer greater or equal than $3$. We give a simultaneous generalization of $(n-2)$-exact categories and $n$-angulated categories, and we call it one-sided $n$-suspended categories. One-sided $n$-angulated categories are also examples of one-sided $n$-suspended categories. We provide a general framework for passing from one-sided $n$-suspended categories to one-sided $n$-angulated categories. Besides, we give a method to construct $n$-angulated quotient categories from Frobenius $n$-prile categories. These results generalize their works by Jasso for $n$-exact categories, Lin for $(n+2)$-angulated categories and Li for one-sided suspended categories.

Gluing n-tilting and n-cotilting subcategories

Recently, Wang, Wei and Zhang define the recollement of extriangulated categories, which is a generalization of both recollement of abelian categories and recollement of triangulated categories. For a recollement $(\mathcal A ,\mathcal B,\mathcal C)$ of extriangulated categories, we show that $n$-tilting (resp. $n$-cotilting) subcategories in $\mathcal A$ and $\mathcal C$ can be glued to get $n$-tilting (resp. $n$-cotilting) subcategories in $\mathcal B$ under certain conditions.

From right (n+2)-angulated categories to n-exangulated categories

The notion of right semi-equivalence in a right $(n+2)$-angulated category is defined in this article. Let $\mathscr C$ be an $n$-exangulated category and $\mathscr X$ is a strongly covariantly finite subcategory of $\mathscr C$. We prove that the standard right $(n+2)$-angulated category $\mathscr C/\mathscr X$ is right semi-equivalence under a natural assumption. As an application, we show that a right $(n+2)$-angulated category has an $n$-exangulated structure if and only if the suspension functor is right semi-equivalence. Besides, we also prove that an $n$-exangulated category $\mathscr C$ has the structure of a right $(n+2)$-angulated category with right semi-equivalence if and only if for any object $X\in\mathscr C$, the morphism $X\to 0$ is a trivial inflation.

s-Recollements and its localization

We introduce a new concept of s-recollements of extriangulated categories, which generalizes recollements of abelian categories, recollements of triangulated categories, as well as recollements of extriangulated categories. Moreover, some basic properties of s-recollements are presented. We also discuss the behavior of the localization theory on the adjoint pair of exact functors. Finally, we provide a method to obtain a recollement of triangulated categories from s-recollements of extriangulated categories via the localization theory.

Torsion pairs and recollements of extriangulated categories

In this article, we prove that if $(\mathcal A ,\mathcal B,\mathcal C)$ is a recollement of extriangulated categories, then torsion pairs in $\mathcal A$ and $\mathcal C$ can induce torsion pairs in $\mathcal B$, and the converse holds under natural assumptions. Besides, we give mild conditions on a cluster tilting subcategory on the middle category of a recollement of extriangulated categories, for the corresponding abelian quotients to form a recollement of abelian categories.

Abelian hearts of twin cotorsion pairs on extriangulated categories

It was shown recently that the heart of a twin cotorsion pair on an extriangulated category is semi-abelian. In this article, we consider a special kind of hearts of twin cotorsion pairs induced by $d$-cluster tilting subcategories in extriangulated categories. We give a necessary and sufficient condition for such hearts to be abelian. In particular, we also can see that such hearts are hereditary. As an application, this generalizes the work by Liu in an exact case, thereby providing new insights in a triangulated case.

Cosilting modules arising from cotilting objects

Let $R$ be a ring. In this paper, we study the characterization of cosilting modules and establish a relation between cosilting modules and cotilting objects in a Grothendieck category. We proved that each cosilting right $R$-module $T$ can be described as a cotilting object in $σ[R/I]$, where $I$ is a right ideal of $R$ determined by $T$ and $σ[R/I]$ is the full subcategory of right $R$-modules, consisting of submodules of $R/I$-generated modules. Conversely, under some suitable conditions, if $T$ is a cotilting object in $σ[R/I]$, then $T$ is cosilting.
