Recollements arising from cotorsion pairs on extriangulated categories

This paper is devoted to constructing some recollements of additive categories associated to concentric twin cotorsion pairs on an extriangulated category. As an application, this result generalizes the work by Chen-Liu-Yang in a triangulated case. Moreover, it highlights new phenomena when it applied to an exact category. Finally, we give some applications to illustrate our main results. In particular, we obtain the Krause's recollement whose the proofs are both elementary and very general.

A Hovey triple arising from two cotorsion pairs

Assume that $(\mathcal{C}, \mathbb{E}, \mathfrak{s})$ is an extriangulated category satisfying Condition (WIC). Let $(\cal Q, \widetilde{\cal R})$ and $(\widetilde{\cal Q}, \cal R)$ be two hereditary cotorsion pairs satisfying conditions $\widetilde{\cal R} \subseteq \cal R$, $\widetilde{\cal Q}\subseteq \cal Q$ and $\widetilde{\cal Q}\cap \cal R = \cal Q \cap \widetilde{\cal R}$. Then there exists a unique thick class $\cal W$ for which $(\cal Q,\cal W,\cal R)$ is a Hovey triple. As an application, this result generalizes the work by Gillespie in an exact case. Moreover, it highlights new phenomena when it applied to triangulated categories.

Filtered objects in extriangulated categories

Let $R$ be an artin ring and $Θ=\{Θ(1),Θ(2),\cdots,Θ(n)\}$ be a family of objects in an artin extriangulated $R$-category $(\cal C,\mathbb{E},\mathfrak{s})$ such that $\mathbb{E}(Θ(j),Θ(i))=0$ for all $j\geq i$. In this paper, we show that the class $\cal P(Θ)$ of the $Θ$-projective objects is a precovering class and the class $\cal I(Θ)$ of the $Θ$-injective objects is a preenveloping one in $\cal C$. Furthermore, if $\cal C$ has enough projectives and enough injectives, we show that the subcategory $\cal F(Θ)$ of $Θ$-filtered objects is functorially finite in $\cal C$. As an appliacation, this generalizes the works by Ringel in a module category case and Mendoza-Santiago in a triangulated category case.

Gorenstein homological dimensions for extriangulated categories

Let $(\mathcal{C},\mathbb{E},\mathfrak{s})$ be an extriangulated category with a proper class $ξ$ of $\mathbb{E}$-triangles. The authors introduced and studied $ξ$-$\mathcal{G}$projective and $ξ$-$\mathcal{G}$injective in \cite{HZZ}. In this paper, we discuss Gorenstein homological dimensions for extriangulated categories. More precisely, we first give some characterizations of $ξ$-$\mathcal{G}$projective dimension by using derived functors on $\mathcal{C}$. Second, let $\mathcal{P}(ξ)$ (resp. $\mathcal{I}(ξ)$) be a generating (resp. cogenerating) subcategory of $\mathcal{C}$. We show that the following equality holds under some assumptions: $$\sup\{ξ\textrm{-}\mathcal{G}{\rm pd}M \ | \ \textrm{for} \ \textrm{any} \ M\in{\mathcal{C}}\}=\sup\{ξ\textrm{-}\mathcal{G}{\rm id}M \ | \ \textrm{for} \ \textrm{any} \ M\in{\mathcal{C}}\},$$ where $ξ\textrm{-}\mathcal{G}{\rm pd}M$ (resp. $ξ\textrm{-}\mathcal{G}{\rm id}M$) denotes $ξ$-$\mathcal{G}$projective (resp. $ξ$-$\mathcal{G}$injective) dimension of $M$. As an application, our main results generalize their work by Bennis-Mahdou and Ren-Liu. Moreover, our proof is not far from the usual module or triangulated case.

On the relation between n-cotorsion pairs and (n+1)-cluster tilting subcategories

A notion of $n$-cotorsion pairs in an extriangulated category with enough projectives and enough injectives is defined in this article. We show that there exists a one-to-one correspondence between $n$-cotorsion pairs and $(n+1)$-cluster tilting subcategories. As an application, this result generalizes the work by Huerta, Mendoza and Pérez in an abelian case. Finally, we give some examples illustrating our main result.

Relative rigid objects in extriangulated categories

In this paper, we study a close relationship between relative cluster tilting theory in extriangulated categories and tau-tilting theory in module categories. Our main results show that relative rigid objects are in bijection with $τ$-rigid pairs, and also relative maximal rigid objects with support tau-tilting pairs under some assumptions. These results generalize their work by Adachi-Iyama-Reiten, Yang-Zhu and Fu-Geng-Liu. Finally, we introduce mutation of relative maximal rigid objects and show that any basic relative almost maximal rigid object has exactly two non-isomorphic indecomposable complements.

Gorenstein dimension of abelian categories

Let C be triangulated category and X a cluster tilting subcategory of C. Koenig and Zhu showed that the quotient category C/X is Gorenstein of Gorenstein dimension at most one. The notion of an extriangulated category was introduced by Nakaoka and Palu as a simultaneous generalization of exact categories and triangulated categories. Now let C be extriangulated category with enough projectives and enough injectives, and X a cluster tilting subcategory of C. In this article, we show that under certain conditions the quotient category C/X is Gorenstein of Gorenstein dimension at most one. As an application, this result generalizes work by Koenig and Zhu.

A note on abelian quotient categories

Let C be a triangulated category with a Serre functor S and X a non-zero contravariantly finite rigid subcategory of C. Then X is cluster tilting if and only if the quotient category C/X is abelian and S(X)=X[2]. As an application, this result generalizes work by Beligiannis.

Two-term relative cluster tilting subcategories, $τ-$tilting modules and silting subcategories

Let $\mathcal{C}$ be a triangulated category with shift functor $[1]$ and $\mathcal{R}$ a rigid subcategory of $\mathcal{C}$. We introduce the notions of two-term $\mathcal{R}[1]$-rigid subcategories, two-term (weak) $\mathcal{R}[1]$-cluster tilting subcategories and two-term maximal $\mathcal{R}[1]$-rigid subcategories, and discuss relationship between them. Our main result shows that there exists a bijection between the set of two-term $\mathcal{R}[1]$-rigid subcategories of $\mathcal{C}$ and the set of $τ$-rigid subcategories of $\mod\mathcal{R}$, which induces a one-to-one correspondence between the set of two-term weak $\mathcal{R}[1]$-cluster tilting subcategories of $\mathcal{C}$ and the set of support $τ$-tilting subcategories of $\mod\mathcal{R}$. This generalizes the main results in \cite{YZZ} where $\mathcal{R}$ is a cluster tilting subcategory. When $\mathcal{R}$ is a silting subcategory, we prove that the two-term weak $\mathcal{R}[1]$-cluster tilting subcategories are precisely two-term silting subcategories in \cite{IJY}. Thus the bijection above induces the bijection given by Iyama-Jørgensen-Yang in \cite{IJY}

Abelian categories arising from cluster-tilting subcategories II: quotient functors

In this paper, we consider a kind of ideal quotient of an extriangulated category such that the ideal is the kernel of a functor from this extriangulated category to an abelian category. We study a condition when the functor is dense and full, in another word, the ideal quotient becomes abelian. Moreover, a new equivalent characterization of cluster-tilting subcategories is given by applying homological methods according to this functor. As an application, we show that in a connected 2-Calabi-Yau triangulated category B, a functorially finite, extension closed subcategory T of B is cluster tilting if and only if B/T is an abelian category.

Abelian categories arising from cluster tilting subcategories

For a triangulated category T, if C is a cluster-tilting subcategory of T, then the quotient category T\C is an abelian category. Under certain conditions, the converse also holds. This is an very important result of cluster-tilting theory, due to Koenig-Zhu and Beligiannis. Now let B be a suitable extriangulated category, which is a simultaneous generalization of triangulated categories and exact categories. We introduce the notion of pre-cluster tilting subcategory C of B, which is a generalization of cluster tilting subcategory. We show that C is cluster tilting if and only if B/C is abelian.

Cluster subalgebras and cotorsion pairs in Frobenius extriangulated categories

Nakaoka and Palu introduced the notion of extriangulated categories by extracting the similarities between exact categories and triangulated categories. In this paper, we study cotorsion pairs in a Frobenius extriangulated category $\C$. Especially, for a $2$-Calabi-Yau extriangulated category $\C$ with a cluster structure, we describe the cluster substructure in the cotorsion pairs. For rooted cluster algebras arising from $\C$ with cluster tilting objects, we give a one-to-one correspondence between cotorsion pairs in $\C$ and certain pairs of their rooted cluster subalgebras which we call complete pairs. Finally, we explain this correspondence by an example relating to a Grassmannian cluster algebra.

$n$-abelian quotient categories

Let $\C$ be an $(n+2)$-angulated category with shift functor $Σ$ and $\X$ be a cluster-tilting subcategory of $\C$. Then we show that the quotient category $\C/\X$ is an $n$-abelian category. If $\C$ has a Serre functor, then $\C/\X$ is equivalent to an $n$-cluster tilting subcategory of an abelian category $\textrm{mod}(Σ^{-1}\X)$. Moreover, we also prove that $\textrm{mod}(Σ^{-1}\X)$ is Gorenstein of Gorenstein dimension at most $n$. As an application, we generalize recent results of Jacobsen-Jørgensen and Koenig-Zhu.

Triangulated categories with cluster-tilting subcategories

Let $\C$ be a triangulated category with a cluster tilting subcategory $\T$. We introduce the notion of $\T[1]$-cluster tilting subcategories (also called ghost cluster tilting subcategories) of $\C$, which are a generalization of cluster tilting subcategories. We first develop a basic theory on ghost cluster tilting subcategories. Secondly, we study links between ghost cluster tilting theory and $τ$-tilting theory: Inspired by the work of Iyama, Jørgensen and Yang \cite{ijy}, we introduce the notion of $τ$-tilting subcategories and tilting subcategories of $\mod\T$. We show that there exists a bijection between weak $\T[1]$-cluster tilting subcategories of $\C$ and support $τ$-tilting subcategories of $\mod\T$. Moreover, we figure out the subcategories of $\mod\T$ which correspond to cluster tilting subcategories of $\C$. This generalizes and improves several results by Adachi-Iyama-Reiten \cite{AIR}, Beligiannis \cite{Be2}, and Yang-Zhu \cite{YZ}. Finally, we prove that the definition of ghost cluster tilting objects is equivalent to the definition of relative cluster tilting objects introduced by the first and the third author in \cite{YZ}.

Triangulated quotient categories revisited

Extriangulated categories were introduced by Nakaoka and Palu by extracting the similarities between exact categories and triangulated categories. A notion of mutation of subcategories in an extriangulated category is defined in this article. Let $\cal A$ be an extension closed subcategory of an extriangulated category $\cal C$. Then the quotient category $\cal M:=\cal{A}/\cal{X}$ carries naturally a triangulated structure whenever $(\cal A,\cal A)$ forms an $\cal X$-mutation pair. This result unifies many previous constructions of triangulated quotient categories, and using it gives a classification of thick triangulated subcategories of pretriangulated category $\cal{C}/\cal{X}$, where $\cal X$ is functorially finite in $\cal C$. When $\cal C$ has Auslander-Reiten translation $τ$, we prove that for a functorially finite subcategory $\cal X$ of $\cal C$ containing projectives and injectives, $\cal{C}/\cal{X}$ is a triangulated category if and only if $(\cal C,\cal C)$ is $\cal X-$mutation if and only if $τ\underline{\cal X}=\bar{\cal X}.$ This generalizes a result by Jørgensen who proved the equivalence between the first and the third conditions for triangulated categories. Furthermore, we show that for such a subcategory $\cal X$ of the extriangulated category $\cal C$, $\cal C$ admits a new extriangulated structure such that $\cal C$ is a Frobenius extriangulated category. Applications to exact categories and triangulated categories are given. From the applications we present examples that extriangulated categories are neither exact categories nor triangulated categories.

Subfactor categories of triangulated categories

Let {\cal T} be a triangulated category, {\cal A} a full subcategory of {\cal T} and {\cal X} a functorially finite subcategory of {\cal A}. If {\cal A} has the properties that any {\cal X}-monomorphism of {\cal A} has a cone and any {\cal X}-epimorphism has a cocone. Then the subfactor category {\cal A/[X]} admits a pretriangulated structure in the sense of [BR]. Moreover the above pretriangulated category {\cal A/[X]} with ({\cal X},{\cal X}[1]) = 0 becomes a triangulated category if and only if ({\cal A},{\cal A}) forms an {\cal X}-mutation pair and {\cal A} is closed under extensions.
