Invariance properties of Brownian motion via Lie's symmetries

The invariance properties of Brownian motion are investigated and revisited within a recent Lie symmetry approach to stochastic differential equations. Some notable properties of the process can be recovered by a related integration by parts formula developed in the same research area.

Random rotational invariance of integration by parts formulas within a Bismut-type approach

The stochastic rotational invariance of an integration by parts formula inspired by the Bismut approach to Malliavin calculus is proved in the framework of the Lie symmetry theory of stochastic differential equations. The non-trivial effect of the rotational invariance of the driving Brownian motion in the derivation of the integration by parts formula is discussed and the invariance property of the formula is shown via applications to some explicit two-dimensional Brownian motion-driven stochastic models.

Integration by parts formulas and Lie's symmetries of SDEs

A strong quasi-invariance principle and a finite-dimensional integration by parts formula as in the Bismut approach to Malliavin calculus are obtained through a suitable application of Lie's symmetry theory to autonomous stochastic differential equations. The main stochastic, geometrical and analytical aspects of the theory are discussed and applications to some Brownian motion driven stochastic models are provided.

Reduction and reconstruction of SDEs via Girsanov and quasi Doob symmetries

A reduction procedure for stochastic differential equations based on stochastic symmetries including Girsanov random transformations is proposed. In this setting, a new notion of reconstruction is given, involving the expectation values of functionals of solution to the SDE and a reconstruction theorem for general stochastic symmetries is proved. Moreover, the notable case of reduction under the closed subclass of quasi Doob transformations is presented. The theoretical results are applied to stochastic models relevant in the applications.

Symmetries of Stochastic Differential Equations using Girsanov transformations

Aiming at enlarging the class of symmetries of an SDE, we introduce a family of stochastic transformations able to change also the underlying probability measure exploiting Girsanov Theorem and we provide new determining equations for the infinitesimal symmetries of the SDE. The well-defined subset of the previous class of measure transformations given by Doob transformations allows us to recover all the Lie point symmetries of the Kolmogorov equation associated with the SDE. This gives the first stochastic interpretation of all the deterministic symmetries of the Kolmogorov equation. The general theory is applied to some relevant stochastic models.

Weak symmetries of stochastic differential equations driven by semimartingales with jumps

Stochastic symmetries and related invariance properties of finite dimensional SDEs driven by general cadlag semimartingales taking values in Lie groups are defined and investigated. The considered set of SDEs, first introduced by S. Cohen, includes affine and Marcus type SDEs as well as smooth SDEs driven by Levy processes and iterated random maps. A natural extension to this general setting of reduction and reconstruction theory for symmetric SDEs is provided. Our theorems imply as special cases non trivial invariance results concerning a class of affine iterated random maps as well as symmetries for numerical schemes (of Euler and Milstein type) for Brownian motion driven SDEs.

Random transformations and invariance of semimartingales on Lie groups

Invariance properties of semimartingales on Lie groups under a family of random transformations are defined and investigated, generalizing the random rotations of the Brownian motion. A necessary and sufficient explicit condition characterizing semimartingales with this kind of invariance is given in terms of their stochastic characteristics. Non trivial examples of symmetric semimartingales are provided and applications of this concept to stochastic analysis are discussed.

Symmetries and invariance properties of stochastic differential equations driven by semimartingales with jumps

Stochastic symmetries and related invariance properties of finite dimensional SDEs driven by general càdlàg semimartingales taking values in Lie groups are defined and investigated. In order to enlarge the class of possible symmetries of SDEs, the new concepts of gauge and time symmetries for semimartingales on Lie groups are introduced. Markovian and non-Markovian examples of gauge and time symmetric processes are provided. The considered set of SDEs includes affine and Marcus type SDEs as well as smooth SDEs driven by Lévy processes. Non trivial invariance results concerning a class of iterated random maps are obtained as special cases.

A note on symmetries of diffusions within a martingale problem approach

A geometric reformulation of the martingale problem associated with a set of diffusion processes is proposed. This formulation, based on second order geometry and Ito integration on manifolds, allows us to give a natural and effective definition of Lie symmetries for diffusion processes.

The geometry of differential constraints for a class of evolution PDEs

The problem of computing differential constraints for a family of evolution PDEs is discussed from a constructive point of view. A new method, based on the existence of generalized characteristics for evolution vector fields, is proposed in order to obtain explicit differential constraints for PDEs belonging to this family. Several examples, with applications in non-linear stochastic filtering theory, stochastic perturbation of soliton equations and non-isospectral integrable systems, are discussed in detail to verify the effectiveness of the method.

Reduction and reconstruction of stochastic differential equations via symmetries

An algorithmic method to exploit a general class of infinitesimal symmetries for reducing stochastic differential equations is presented and a natural definition of reconstruction, inspired by the classical reconstruction by quadratures, is proposed. As a side result the well-known solution formula for linear one-dimensional stochastic differential equations is obtained within this symmetry approach. The complete procedure is applied to several examples with both theoretical and applied relevance.

Symmetries of Stochastic Differential Equations: a geometric approach

A new notion of stochastic transformation is proposed and applied to the study of both weak and strong symmetries of stochastic differential equations (SDEs). The correspondence between an algebra of weak symmetries for a given SDE and an algebra of strong symmetries for a modified SDE is proved under suitable regularity assumptions. This general approach is applied to a stochastic version of a two dimensional symmetric ordinary differential equation and to the case of two dimensional Brownian motion.

Local and nonlocal solvable structures in ODEs reduction

Solvable structures, likewise solvable algebras of local symmetries, can be used to integrate scalar ODEs by quadratures. Solvable structures, however, are particularly suitable for the integration of ODEs with a lack of local symmetries. In fact, under regularity assumptions, any given ODE always admits solvable structures even though finding them in general could be a very difficult task. In practice a noteworthy simplification may come by computing solvable structures which are adapted to some admitted symmetry algebra. In this paper we consider solvable structures adapted to local and nonlocal symmetry algebras of any order (i.e., classical and higher). In particular we introduce the notion of nonlocal solvable structure.
