On the body of ample angles of asymptotically log Fano varieties

In dimension two, we reduce the classification problem for asymptotically log Fano pairs to the problem of determining generality conditions on certain blow-ups. In any dimension, we prove the rationality of the body of ample angles of an asymptotically log Fano pair, i.e., these convex bodies are always rational polytopes.

MMP for co-rank one foliations on threefolds

We prove existence of flips, special termination, the base point free theorem and, in the case of log general type, the existence of minimal models for F-dlt foliated pairs of co-rank one on a $\mathbb Q$-factorial projective threefold. As applications, we show the existence of F-dlt modifications and F-terminalisations for foliated pairs and we show that foliations with canonical or F-dlt singularities admit non-dicritical singularities. Finally, we show abundance in the case of numerically trivial foliated pairs.

Polarized endomorphisms of normal projective threefolds in arbitrary characteristic

Let $X$ be a projective variety over an algebraically closed field $k$ of arbitrary characteristic $p \ge 0$. A surjective endomorphism $f$ of $X$ is $q$-polarized if $f^\ast H \sim qH$ for some ample Cartier divisor $H$ and integer $q > 1$. Suppose $f$ is separable and $X$ is $\mathbb{Q}$-Gorenstein and normal. We show that the anti-canonical divisor $-K_X$ is numerically equivalent to an effective $\mathbb{Q}$-Cartier divisor, strengthening slightly the conclusion of Boucksom, de Fernex and Favre (Theorem C) and also covering singular varieties over an algebraically closed field of arbitrary characteristic. Suppose $f$ is separable and $X$ is normal. We show that the Albanese morphism of $X$ is an algebraic fibre space and $f$ induces polarized endomorphisms on the Albanese and also the Picard variety of $X$, and $K_X$ being pseudo-effective and $\mathbb{Q}$-Cartier means being a torsion $\mathbb{Q}$-divisor. Let $f^{Gal}:\overline{X}\to X$ be the Galois closure of $f$. We show that if $p>5$ and co-prime to $deg\, f^{Gal}$ then one can run the minimal model program (MMP) $f$-equivariantly, after replacing $f$ by a positive power, for a mildly singular threefold $X$ and reach a variety $Y$ with torsion canonical divisor (and also with $Y$ being a quasi-étale quotient of an abelian variety when $\dim(Y)\le 2$). Along the way, we show that a power of $f$ acts as a scalar multiplication on the Neron-Severi group of $X$ (modulo torsion) when $X$ is a smooth and rationally chain connected projective variety of dimension at most three.

Purely log terminal threefolds with non-normal centres in characteristic two

We show that many classical results of the minimal model programme do not hold over an algebraically closed field of characteristic two. Indeed, we construct a three dimensional plt pair whose codimension one part is not normal, a three dimensional klt singularity which is not rational nor Cohen-Macaulay, and a klt Fano threefold with non-trivial intermediate cohomology.

On log del Pezzo surfaces in large characteristic

We show that any Kawamata log terminal del Pezzo surface over an algebraically closed field of large characteristic is globally F-regular or it admits a log resolution which is liftable to characteristic zero. As a consequence, we prove the Kawamata-Viehweg vanishing theorem for klt del Pezzo surfaces of large characteristic.

A remark on the Ueno-Campana's threefold

We show that the Ueno-Campana's threefold cannot be obtained as the blow-up of any smooth threefold along a smooth centre, answering negatively a question raised by Oguiso and Truong.

On invariance of plurigenera for foliations on surfaces

We show that if $(X_t,\mathcal{F}_t)_t$ is a family of foliations with reduced singularities on a smooth family of surfaces, then invariance of plurigenera holds for sufficiently large $m$. On the other hand, we provide examples on which the result fails, for small values of $m$.

Uniform bounds for strongly $F$-regular surfaces

We show that if $(X,B)$ is a two dimensional Kawamata log terminal pair defined over an algebraically closed field of characteristic $p$, and $p$ is sufficiently large, depending only on the coefficients of $B$, then $(X,B)$ is also strongly $F$-regular.

On base point freeness in positive characteristic

We prove that if $(X,A+B)$ is a pair defined over an algebraically closed field of positive characteristic such that $(X,B)$ is strongly $F$-regular, $A$ is ample and $K_X+A+B$ is strictly nef, then $K_X+A+B$ is ample. Similarly, we prove that for a log pair $(X,A+B)$ with $A$ being ample and $B$ effective, $K_X+A+B$ is big if it is nef and of maximal nef dimension. As an application, we establish a rationality theorem for the nef threshold and various results towards the minimal model program in dimension three in positive characteristic.

On the numerical dimension of pseudo-effective divisors in positive characteristic

Let X be a smooth projective variety over an algebraically closed field of positive characteristic. We prove that if D is a pseudo-effective R-divisor on X which is not numerically equivalent to the negative part in its divisorial Zariski decomposition, then the numerical dimension of D is positive. In characteristic zero, this was proved by Nakayama using vanishing theorems.

New outlook on the Minimal Model Program, I

We give a new and self-contained proof of the finite generation of adjoint rings with big boundaries. As a consequence, we show that the canonical ring of a smooth projective variety is finitely generated.
