On the intrinsic width of the chromoelectric flux tube in finite temperature LGTs

We propose three different lattice operators to measure the intrinsic width ξ_I of the chromoelectric flux tube in pure lattice gauge theories. In order to test these proposals we evaluate them for SU(2) and Ising LGTs in (2+1) dimensions in the vicinity of the deconfinement transition. Using dimensional reduction, we could perform the calculation in the effective 2d spin model using standard S-matrix techniques. We consistently found the same result for the three lattice operators. This result can be expressed in terms of the finite temperature string tension as follows ξ_I=\frac{T}{2σ(T)} and implies that the intrinsic width of the flux tube diverges as the deconfinement transition is approached.

Beyond cusp anomalous dimension from integrability in SYM$_4$

We study the first sub-leading correction $O((\ln s)^0)$ to the cusp anomalous dimension in the high spin expansion of finite twist operators in ${\cal N}=4$ SYM theory. This term is still governed by a linear integral equation which we study in the weak and strong coupling regimes. In the strong coupling regime we find agreement with the string theory computations

The generalised scaling function: a systematic study

We describe a procedure for determining the generalised scaling functions $f_n(g)$ at all the values of the coupling constant. These functions describe the high spin contribution to the anomalous dimension of large twist operators (in the $sl(2)$ sector) of ${\cal N}=4$ SYM. At fixed $n$, $f_n(g)$ can be obtained by solving a linear integral equation (or, equivalently, a linear system with an infinite number of equations), whose inhomogeneous term only depends on the solutions at smaller $n$. In other words, the solution can be written in a recursive form and then explicitly worked out in the strong coupling regime. In this regime, we also emphasise the peculiar convergence of different quantities ('masses', related to the $f_n(g)$) to the unique mass gap of the $O(6)$ nonlinear sigma model and analyse the first next-to-leading order corrections.

On the logarithmic powers of $sl(2)$ SYM$_4$

In the high spin limit the minimal anomalous dimension of (fixed) twist operators in the $sl(2)$ sector of planar ${\cal N}=4$ Super Yang-Mills theory expands as $γ(g,s,L)=f(g) \ln s + f_{sl}(g,L) + \sum \limits_{n=1}^\infty γ^{(n)}(g,L) (\ln s)^{-n} + ... $. We find that the sub-logarithmic contribution $γ^{(n)}(g,L) $ is governed by a linear integral equation, depending on the solution of the linear integral equations appearing at the steps $n'\leq n-3$. We work out this recursive procedure and determine explicitly $γ^{(n)}(g,L) $ (in particular $γ^{(1)}(g,L)=0$ and $γ^{(n)}(g,2)=γ^{(n)}(g,3)=0$). Furthermore, we connect the $γ^{(n)}(g,L) $ (for finite $L$) to the generalised scaling functions, $f^{(r)}_n(g)$, appearing in the limit of large twist $L\sim\ln s$. Finally, we provide the first orders of weak and strong coupling for the first $γ^{(n)}(g,L)$ (and hence $f^{(r)}_n(g)$).

Beyond cusp anomalous dimension from integrability

We study the first sub-leading correction $O((\ln s)^0)$ to the cusp anomalous dimension in the high spin expansion of finite twist operators in ${\cal N}=4$ SYM theory. Since this approximation is still governed by a linear integral equation (derived already from the Bethe Ansatz equations in a previous paper), we finalise it better in order to study the weak and strong coupling regimes. In fact, we emphasise how easily the weak coupling expansion can be obtained, confirms the known four loop result and predicts the higher orders. Eventually, we pay particular attention to the strong coupling regime showing agreement and predictions in comparison with string expansion; speculations on the 'universal' part (upon subtracting the collinear anomalous dimension) are brought forward.

The generalised scaling function: a note

A method for determining the generalised scaling function(s) arising in the high spin behaviour of long operator anomalous dimensions in the planar $sl(2)$ sector of ${\cal N}=4$ SYM is proposed. The all-order perturbative expansion around the strong coupling is detailed for the prototypical third and fourth scaling functions, showing the emergence of the O(6) Non-Linear Sigma Model mass-gap from different SYM 'mass' functions. Remarkably, only the fourth one gains contribution from the non-BES reducible densities and also shows up, as first, NLSM interaction and specific model dependence. Finally, the computation of the $n$-th generalised function is sketched and might be easily finalised for checks versus the computations in the sigma model or the complete string theory.

Strong coupling for planar ${\cal N}=4$ SYM theory: an all-order result

We propose a scheme for determining a generalised scaling function, namely the Sudakov factor in a peculiar double scaling limit for high spin and large twist operators belonging to the $sl(2)$ sector of planar ${\cal N}=4$ SYM. In particular, we perform explicitly the all-order computation at strong 't Hooft coupling regarding the first (contribution to the) generalised scaling function. Moreover, we compare our asymptotic results with the numerical solutions finding a very good agreement and evaluate numerically the non-asymptotic contributions. Eventually, we illustrate the agreement and prediction on the string side.

K-string tensions at finite temperature and integrable models

It has recently been pointed out that simple scaling properties of Polyakov correlation functions of gauge systems in the confining phase suggest that the ratios of k-string tensions in the low temperature region is constant up to terms of order T^3. Here we argue that, at least in a three-dimensional Z_4 gauge model, the above ratios are constant in the whole confining phase. This result is obtained by combining numerical experiments with known exact results on the mass spectrum of an integrable two-dimensional spin model describing the infrared behaviour of the gauge system near the deconfining transition.

Confinement in the q-state Potts field theory

The q-state Potts field theory describes the universality class associated to the spontaneous breaking of the permutation symmetry of q colors. In two dimensions it is defined up to q=4 and exhibits duality and integrability away from critical temperature in absence of magnetic field. We show how, when a magnetic field is switched on, it provides the simplest model of confinement allowing for both mesons and baryons. Deconfined quarks (kinks) exist in a phase bounded by a first order transition on one side, and a second order transition on the other. The evolution of the mass spectrum with temperature and magnetic field is discussed.

Hubbard's Adventures in ${\cal N}=4$ SYM-land? Some non-perturbative considerations on finite length operators

As the Hubbard energy at half filling is believed to reproduce at strong coupling (part of) the all loop expansion of the dimensions in the SU(2) sector of the planar $ {\cal N}=4$ SYM, we compute an exact non-perturbative expression for it. For this aim, we use the effective and well-known idea in 2D statistical field theory to convert the Bethe Ansatz equations into two coupled non-linear integral equations (NLIEs). We focus our attention on the highest anomalous dimension for fixed bare dimension or length, $L$, analysing the many advantages of this method for extracting exact behaviours varying the length and the 't Hooft coupling, $λ$. For instance, we will show that the large $L$ (asymptotic) expansion is exactly reproduced by its analogue in the BDS Bethe Ansatz, though the exact expression clearly differs from the BDS one (by non-analytic terms). Performing the limits on $L$ and $λ$ in different orders is also under strict control. Eventually, the precision of numerical integration of the NLIEs is as much impressive as in other easier-looking theories.

On the finite size corrections of anti-ferromagnetic anomalous dimensions in ${\cal N}=4$ SYM

Non-linear integral equations derived from Bethe Ansatz are used to evaluate finite size corrections to the highest (i.e. {\it anti-ferromagnetic}) and immediately lower anomalous dimensions of scalar operators in ${\cal N}=4$ SYM. In specific, multi-loop corrections are computed in the SU(2) operator subspace, whereas in the general SO(6) case only one loop calculations have been finalised. In these cases, the leading finite size corrections are given by means of explicit formulæand compared with the exact numerical evaluation. In addition, the method here proposed is quite general and especially suitable for numerical evaluations.
