Net-Charge Fluctuations in Finite Volume PNJL Model: A Probe for the QCD Critical Point

The QCD Critical Point is a pivotal feature of the phase diagram of strongly interacting matter. Signatures of the critical point are expected to manifest through the non-monotonic behavior of higher-order moments of conserved quantities, such as net-baryon ($\Delta B$), net-charge ($\Delta Q$), and net-strangeness ($\Delta S$), as a function of collision energy. These moments are connected to the thermodynamic susceptibilities, as well as to the correlation length developed in the system, which diverges at the critical point. The non-monotonic behavior of higher-order moments and their volume-independent products near the critical region supports the presence of a critical point in a finite system existing for a finite time, due to their sensitivity to critical fluctuations. These fluctuations are believed to provide key evidence in the search for the QCD Critical Point. We present the higher order moments, such as mean (M), variance $(\sigma^2)$, skewness (S), and kurtosis $(\kappa)$ and their volume-independent moment products $(M/\sigma^{2}, s\sigma, \kappa\sigma^{2})$ of net-charge multiplicity distributions in the three-flavor finite volume, finite density Polyakov loop enhanced Nambu-Jona-Lasinio (PNJL) model. The work has been performed at energies similar to RHIC BES energies from 7.7 GeV to 200 GeV, including 2.4 and 3 GeV in the present model. Our findings are compared with the STAR net-charge data at various collision energies to explore signals of the QCD critical point. Additionally, we contrast our results with predictions from the Ultra-relativistic Quantum Molecular Dynamics (UrQMD) model, the Hadron Resonance Gas (HRG) model, and available lattice QCD data. The present results offer a useful tool for extracting the freeze-out parameters in the heavy-ion collision by comparing them with the STAR net-charge result and other net-charge theoretical models.

Net-Strangeness Fluctuations and Their Experimental Implications in the SU(3) PNJL Model Using the Subensemble Acceptance Method for the search of QCD Critical Point

The critical end point (CEP) is a key feature of the Quantum Chromodynamics (QCD) phase diagram, where critical phenomena cause higher-order moments of conserved charges net-baryon ($\Delta B$), net-charge ($\Delta Q$), and net-strangeness ($\Delta S$) to exhibit non-monotonic behavior. These moments and their volume-independent products are sensitive to the correlation length, making them crucial observables in the search for the CEP. In this study, we investigate net-strangeness fluctuations using the finite-volume Polyakov-loop extended Nambu-Jona-Lasinio (PNJL) model, incorporating six-quark and eight-quark interactions at energy scales relevant to the RHIC beam energy scan. Our results are compared to STAR net-kaon data and the Hadron Resonance Gas (HRG) model to assess the CEP's existence. Since direct measurement of conserved charges is experimentally challenging, net-proton, net-pion, and net-kaon are used as proxies for $\Delta B$, $\Delta Q$, and $\Delta S$. We employ the Subensemble Acceptance Method (SAM) to analyze the acceptance dependence of $\kappa\sigma^{2}$ for net-strangeness fluctuations. Our findings establish a direct mapping between the subvolume (particle fraction) and the total volume (conserved quantities), providing insights into the role of experimental acceptance in fluctuation measurements.

Dynamics of Hot QCD Matter 2024 -- Bulk Properties

The second Hot QCD Matter 2024 conference at IIT Mandi focused on various ongoing topics in high-energy heavy-ion collisions, encompassing theoretical and experimental perspectives. This proceedings volume includes 19 contributions that collectively explore diverse aspects of the bulk properties of hot QCD matter. The topics encompass the dynamics of electromagnetic fields, transport properties, hadronic matter, spin hydrodynamics, and the role of conserved charges in high-energy environments. These studies significantly enhance our understanding of the complex dynamics of hot QCD matter, the quark-gluon plasma (QGP) formed in high-energy nuclear collisions. Advances in theoretical frameworks, including hydrodynamics, spin dynamics, and fluctuation studies, aim to improve theoretical calculations and refine our knowledge of the thermodynamic properties of strongly interacting matter. Experimental efforts, such as those conducted by the ALICE and STAR collaborations, play a vital role in validating these theoretical predictions and deepening our insight into the QCD phase diagram, collectivity in small systems, and the early-stage behavior of strongly interacting matter. Combining theoretical models with experimental observations offers a comprehensive understanding of the extreme conditions encountered in relativistic heavy-ion and proton-proton collisions.

Fluctuations of conserved charges with finite size PNJL model

Fluctuations of baryon, charge and strangeness have been investigated in Polyakov loop enhanced Nambu--Jona-Lasinio model. Multiple reflection expansion method has been incorporated to include the surface and curvature energy along with the system volume. The results of different fluctuations are then compared with the available experimental data from the heavy ion collision.

Finite size effect on Dissociation and Diffusion of chiral partners in Nambu-Jona-Lasinio model

Along with masses of pion and sigma meson modes, their dissociation into quark medium provide a detail spectral structures of the chiral partners. Present article has studied a finite size effect on that detail structure of chiral partners by using the framework of Nambu-Jona-Lasinio model. Through this dissociation mechanism, their diffusions and conductions are also studied. The masses, widths, diffusion coefficients, conductivities of chiral partners are merged at different temperatures in restore phase of chiral symmetry, but merging points of all are shifted in lower temperature, when one introduce finite size effect into the picture. The strengths of diffusions and conductions are also reduced due to finite size consideration.

Finite temperature properties of a modified Polyakov$-$Nambu$-$Jona-Lasinio model

Thermodynamic properties of strongly interacting matter are investigated using the Polyakov loop enhanced Nambu$-$Jona-Lasinio model along with some modifications to include the hadrons. Various observables are shown to have a close agreement with the numerical data of QCD on lattice. The advantage of the present scheme over a similar study using a switching function is that here no extra parameters are to be fitted. As a result the present scheme can be easily extended for finite chemical potentials.

Finite size effect on thermodynamics of hadron gas in high-multiplicity events of proton-proton collisions at the LHC

Multiple Reflection Expansion (MRE) formalism has been applied to hadron resonance gas (HRG) model to study the finite-size effect on thermodynamics of small systems of hadron gas at the chemical freeze-out temperature in high-multiplicity events of proton-proton (pp) colisions at the LHC. Comparison with larger systems of heavy-ion (AA) collisions helps in undersanding the usefulness of the effect on small systems. Thermodynamic properties of these systems at the chemical freeze-out, with and without system-size effect, are contrasted with those for infinite hadronic phase of strongly interacting matter at ideal thermodynamic limit, as provided by LQCD calculations. On introduction of finite size effect, the small hadronic systems produced in high-multiplicity pp events, unlike those in AA collisions, remain away from ideal thermodynamic limit. Knudsen number estimations validate the findings.

Higher moments on strangeness fluctuation using PNJL model

The strangeness fluctuation of QGP matter has been investigated in three flavor finite volume Polyakov loop extended Nambu-Jona--Lasinio model. The ratio of fourth order moment to second order moment (kurtosis) and the third order moment to second order moment (skewness) of strangeness fuctuations have been studied and compared with the experimental data. The cross correlations related to baryon number, strangeness and electric charge conservation have also been discussed. Skewness and kurtosis of strangeness fluctuation in PNJL model have similar features along the collision energy of heavy ion experiments.

Estimating transport coefficients in hot and dense quark matter

We compute the transport coefficients, namely, the coefficients of shear and bulk viscosity as well as thermal conductivity for hot and dense quark matter. The calculations are performed within the Nambu- Jona Lasinio (NJL) model. The estimation of the transport coefficients is made using a quasiparticle approach of solving the Boltzmann kinetic equation within the relaxation time approximation. The transition rates are calculated in a manifestly covariant manner to estimate the thermal-averaged cross sections for quark-quark and quark-antiquark scattering. The calculations are performed for finite chemical potential also. Within the parameters of the model, the ratio of shear viscosity to entropy density has a minimum at the Mott transition temperature. At vanishing chemical potential, the ratio of bulk viscosity to entropy density, on the other hand, decreases with temperature with a sharp decrease near the critical temperature, and vanishes beyond it. At finite chemical potential, however, it increases slowly with temperature beyond the Mott temperature. The coefficient of thermal conductivity also shows a minimum at the critical temperature.

Thermodynamic Properties of Strongly Interacting Matter in a Finite Volume using the Polyakov-Nambu-Jona-Lasinio model

We present the thermodynamic properties of strongly interacting matter in finite volume in the framework of Polyakov loop enhanced Nambu$-$Jona-lasinio model within mean field approximation. We considered both the 2 flavor and 2+1 flavor matter. Our primary observation was a qualitative change in the phase transition properties that resulted in the lowering of the temperature corresponding to the critical end point. This would make it favorable for detection in heavy-ion experiments that intend to create high density matter with considerably small temperatures. We further demonstrate the possibility of obtaining chiral symmetry restoration even within the confined phase in finite volumes.

QCD phase diagram using PNJL model with eight-quark interactions

We present the phase diagram and the fluctuations of different conserved charges like quark number, charge and strangeness at vanishing chemical potential for the 2+1 flavor Polyakov Loop extended Nambu--Jona-Lasinio model with eight-quark interaction terms using three-momentum cutoff regularisation. The main effect of the higher order interaction term is to shift the critical end point to the lower value of the chemical potential and higher value of the temperature. The fluctuations show good qualitative agreement with the lattice data.

Correlation between conserved charges in PNJL Model with multi-quark interactions

We present a study of correlations among conserved charges like baryon number, electric charge and strangeness in the framework of 2+1 flavor Polyakov loop extended Nambu-Jona-Lasinio model at vanishing chemical potentials, up to fourth order. Correlations up to second order have been measured in Lattice QCD which compares well with our estimates given the inherent difference in the pion masses in the two systems. Possible physical implications of these correlations and their importance in understanding the matter obtained in heavy-ion collisions are discussed. We also present comparison of the results with the commonly used unbound effective potential in the quark sector of this model.

Susceptibilities with multi-quark interactions in PNJL model

We have investigated the fluctuations and the higher order susceptibilities of quark number, isospin number, electric charge and strangeness at vanishing chemical potential for 2+1 flavor Polyakov loop extended Nambu--Jona-Lasinio model. The calculations are performed for the bound effective potential in the quark sector requiring up to eight quark interaction terms. These have been contrasted to the lattice results which currently have somewhat heavier quarks in the light flavor sector. The results show sufficient qualitative agreement. For comparison we also present the results obtained with the conventional effective potential containing upto six quark interaction terms.

Investigation of Phase Diagram and Bulk Thermodynamic Properties using PNJL Model with Eight-Quark Interactions

We present the bulk thermodynamic properties and phase diagram of strongly interacting matter in an extension of the 3-flavor NJL and PNJL models of QCD. Using a three momentum cut-off scheme, we have extended the multiquark interaction terms up to eight order so that the stability of the vacuum is ensured in these models. We explore the effects of various combinations of the two eight-quark couplings $g_1$ and $g_2$ and present a comparative study between the NJL and PNJL models as well as Lattice QCD data. The main effect of the eight-quark interaction term is to shift the critical end point in the $T-μ$ phase diagram to a lower value of $μ$ and higher value of $T$, thus bringing them closer to Lattice QCD results.

Mesonic Excitations of QGP: Study with an Effective Model

We study the correlations between quark-antiquark pairs in different quantum number channels in a deconfined plasma by using an effective model of QCD. Using the three flavour PNJL model, the finite temperature spectral functions for different mesonic states are studied at zero and nonzero quark chemical potentials. It is found that in the $η$ channel resonance structures survive above the chiral transition temperature $\tc$, while the kaonic states seem to get washed off just above $\tc$. The sensitivity of the structures to the anomaly term are carefully investigated.
