Shifted second moment of the Riemann zeta function and a Fourier type kernel

We compute the second moment of the Riemann zeta function for shifted arguments over a domain that extends the ones in the literature. We use the Riemann-Siegel formula for the error term in the approximate functional equation and take the products of all the terms into account. We also show that, as a function of imaginary shifts on the critical line, the the second moment behaves like a Fourier-Cauchy type kernel on a class of functions. This is reminiscent of orthogonal functions.

Weyl formula and thermodynamics of geometric flow

We study the Weyl formula for the asymptotic number of eigenvalues of the Laplace-Beltrami operator with Dirichlet boundary condition on a Riemannian manifold in the context of geometric flows. Assuming the eigenvalues to be the energies of some associated statistical system, we show that geometric flows are directly related with the direction of increasing entropy chosen. For a closed Riemannian manifold we obtain a volume preserving flow of geometry being equivalent to the increment of Gibbs entropy function derived from the spectrum of Laplace-Beltrami operator. Resemblance with Arnowitt, Deser, and Misner (ADM) formalism of gravity is also noted by considering open Riemannian manifolds, directly equating the geometric flow parameter and the direction of increasing entropy as time direction.

A $p$-arton Model for Modular Cusp Forms

We propose to associate to a modular form (an infinite number of) complex valued functions on the $p$-adic numbers $\mathbb{Q}_p$ for each prime $p$. We elaborate on the correspondence and study its consequence in terms of the Mellin transforms and the $L$-functions related to the forms. Further we discuss the case of products of Dirichlet $L$-functions and their Mellin duals, which are convolution products of $\vartheta$-series. The latter are intriguingly similar to non-holomorphic Maass forms of weight zero as suggested by their Fourier coefficients.

Phase operator on $L^2(\mathbb{Q}_p)$ and the zeroes of Fisher and Riemann

The distribution of the non-trivial zeroes of the Riemann zeta function, according to the Riemann hypothesis, is tantalisingly similar to the zeroes of the partition functions (Fisher and Yang-Lee zeroes) of statistical mechanical models studied by physicists. The resolvent function of an operator akin to the phase operator, conjugate to the number operator in quantum mechanics, turns out to be important in this approach. The generalised Vladimirov derivative acting on the space $L^2(\mathbb{Q}_p)$ of complex valued locally constant functions on the $p$-adic field is rather similar to the number operator. We show that a `phase operator' conjugate to it can be constructed on a subspace $L^2(p^{-1}\mathbb{Z}_p)$ of $L^2(\mathbb{Q}_p)$. We discuss (at physicists' level of rigour) how to combine this for all primes to possibly relate to the zeroes of the Riemann zeta function. Finally, we extend these results to the family of Dirichlet $L$-functions, using our recent construction of Vladimirov derivative like pseudodifferential operators associated with the Dirichlet characters.

Matrix Model for Riemann Zeta via its Local Factors

We propose the construction of an ensemble of unitary random matrices (UMM) for the Riemann zeta function. Our approach to this problem is `$p$-iecemeal', in the sense that we consider each factor in the Euler product representation of the zeta function to first construct a UMM for each prime $p$. We are able to use its phase space description to write the partition function as the trace of an operator that acts on a subspace of square-integrable functions on the $p$-adic field. This suggests a Berry-Keating type Hamiltonian. We combine the data from all primes to propose a Hamiltonian and a matrix model for the Riemann zeta function.

Pseudodifferential Operators on $\mathbf{Q}_p$ and $L$-Series

We define a family of pseudodifferential operators on the Hilbert space $L^2(\mathbf{Q}_p)$ of complex valued square-integrable functions on the $p$-adic number field $\mathbf{Q}_p$. The Riemann zeta-function and the related Dirichlet $L$-functions can be expressed as a trace of these operators on a subspace of $L^2(\mathbf{Q}_p)$. We also extend this to the $L$-functions associated with modular (cusp) forms. Wavelets on $L^2(\mathbf{Q}_p)$ are common sets of eigenfunctions of these operators.

Enhanced Symmetry of the $p$-adic Wavelets

Wavelet analysis has been extended to the $p$-adic line $\mathbb{Q}_p$. The $p$-adic wavelets are complex valued functions with compact support. As in the case of real wavelets, the construction of the basis functions is recursive, employing scaling and translation. Consequently, wavelets form a representation of the affine group generated by scaling and translation. In addition, $p$-adic wavelets are eigenfunctions of a pseudo-differential operator, as a result of which they turn out to have a larger symmetry group. The enhanced symmetry of the $p$-adic wavelets is demonstrated.

From Phase Space to Integrable Representations and Level-Rank Duality

We explicitly find representations for different large $N$ phases of Chern-Simons matter theory on $S^2\times S^1$. These representations are characterised by Young diagrams. We show that no-gap and lower-gap phase of Chern-Simons-matter theory correspond to integrable representations of $SU(N)_k$ affine Lie algebra, where as upper-cap phase corresponds to integrable representations of $SU(k-N)_k$ affine Lie algebra. We use phase space description of arXiv:0711.0133 to obtain these representations and argue how putting a cap on eigenvalue distribution forces corresponding representations to be integrable. We also prove that the Young diagrams corresponding to lower-gap and upper-cap representations are related to each other by transposition under level-rank duality. Finally we draw phase space droplets for these phases and show how information about eigenvalue and Young diagram descriptions can be captured in topologies of these droplets in a unified way.

Emergent Phase Space Description of Unitary Matrix Model

We show that large $N$ phases of a $0$ dimensional generic unitary matrix model (UMM) can be described in terms of topologies of two dimensional droplets on a plane spanned by eigenvalue and number of boxes in Young diagram. Information about different phases of UMM is encoded in the geometry of droplets. These droplets are similar to phase space distributions of a unitary matrix quantum mechanics (UMQM) ($(0 + 1)$ dimensional) on constant time slices. We find that for a given UMM, it is possible to construct an effective UMQM such that its phase space distributions match with droplets of UMM on different time slices at large $N$. Therefore, large $N$ phase transitions in UMM can be understood in terms of dynamics of an effective UMQM. From the geometry of droplets it is also possible to construct Young diagrams corresponding to $U(N)$ representations and hence different large $N$ states of the theory in momentum space. We explicitly consider two examples : single plaquette model with $\text{Tr} U^2$ terms and Chern-Simons theory on $S^3$. We describe phases of CS theory in terms of eigenvalue distributions of unitary matrices and find dominant Young distributions for them.

On the Exchange Interactions in Holographic p-adic CFT

There is a renewed interest in conformal field theories (CFT) on ultrametric spaces (p-adic field and its algebraic extensions) in view of their natural adaptability in the holographic setting. We compute the contributions from the exchange interactions to the four-point correlator of the CFT using Witten diagrams with three-scalar interaction vertex. Together with the contributions from the bulk four-point interaction, the contact term, these provide a complete answer. We remark on the singularity structure in Mellin space, and argue that all these models are analogues of adS_2/CFT_1.

Phase Space Distribution of Riemann Zeros

We present the partition function of a most generic $U(N)$ single plaquette model in terms of representations of unitary group. Extremising the partition function in large N limit we obtain a relation between eigenvalues of unitary matrices and number of boxes in the most dominant Young tableaux distribution. Since, eigenvalues of unitary matrices behave like coordinates of free fermions whereas, number of boxes in a row is like conjugate momenta of the same, a relation between them allows us to provide a phase space distribution for different phases of the unitary model under consideration. This proves a universal feature that all the phases of a generic unitary matrix model can be described in terms of topology of free fermi phase space distribution. Finally, using this result and analytic properties of resolvent that satisfy Dyson-Schwinger equation, we present a phase space distribution of unfolded zeros of Riemann zeta function.

Phase Space Distribution for Two-Gap Solution in Unitary Matrix Model

We analyze the dynamics of weakly coupled finite temperature $U(N)$ gauge theories on $S^3$ by studying a class of effective unitary matrix model. Solving Dyson-Schwinger equation at large $N$, we find that different phases of gauge theories are characterized by gaps in eigenvalue distribution over a unit circle. In particular, we obtain no-gap, one-gap and two-gap solutions at large $N$ for a class of matrix model we are considering. The same effective matrix model can equivalently be written as a sum over representations (or Young diagrams) of unitary group. We show that at large $N$, Young diagrams corresponding to different phases can be classified in terms of discontinuities in number of boxes in two consecutive rows. More precisely, the representation, where there is no discontinuity, corresponds to no-gap and one-gap solution, where as, a diagram with one discontinuity corresponds to two-gap phase, mentioned above. This observation allows us to write a one to one relation between eigenvalue distribution function and Young tableaux distribution function for each saddle point, in particular for two-gap solution. We find that all the saddle points can be described in terms of free fermions with a phase space distribution for no-gap, one-gap and two-gap phases.

Schwinger-Dyson approach to Liouville Field Theory

We discuss Liouville field theory in the framework of Schwinger-Dyson approach and derive a functional equation for the three-point structure constant. We argue the existence of a second Schwinger-Dyson equation on the basis of the duality between the screening charge operators and obtain a second functional equation for the structure constant. We discuss the utility of the two functional equations to fix the structure constant uniquely.

Some insights in the structure of correlation functions in Liouville and Toda field theories

We discuss some aspects of Liouville field theory, starting from operator equation of motion in presence of two screening charges and re-derive the dual zero mode Schwinger Dyson equations for the two screening charges from the path integral. Using functional methods we show the familiar pole structure of Liouville correlation function using the partition function. Next we discuss a generalized structure of the correlation functions obtained from the zero mode functional equations. From this structure we infer the use of the Barnes double Gamma functions to construct a part of the denominator of the correlators and also use Weyl symmetry of the theory to deduce more information about the rest. We similarly extend these arguments in the case of Toda field theories where we make a general statement about the denominator of the three point function and Sine-Liouvile field theory where we only obtain an infinite product structure.

The DeWitt Equation in Quantum Field Theory

We take a new look at the DeWitt equation, a defining equation for the effective action functional in quantum field theory. We present a formal solution to this equation, and discuss the equation in various contexts, and in particular for models where it can be made completely well defined, such as the Wess-Zumino model in two dimensions.

Variation of the gas and radiation content in the sub-Keplerian accretion disk around black holes and its impact to the solutions

We investigate the variation of the gas and the radiation pressure in accretion disks during the infall of matter to the black hole and its effect to the flow. While the flow far away from the black hole might be non-relativistic, in the vicinity of the black hole it is expected to be relativistic behaving more like radiation. Therefore, the ratio of gas pressure to total pressure (beta) and the underlying polytropic index (gamma) should not be constant throughout the flow. We obtain that accretion flows exhibit significant variation of beta and then gamma, which affects solutions described in the standard literature based on constant beta. Certain solutions for a particular set of initial parameters with a constant beta do not exist when the variation of beta is incorporated appropriately. We model the viscous sub-Keplerian accretion disk with a nonzero component of advection and pressure gradient around black holes by preserving the conservations of mass, momentum, energy, supplemented by the evolution of beta. By solving the set of five coupled differential equations, we obtain the thermo-hydrodynamical properties of the flow. We show that during infall, beta of the flow could vary upto ~300%, while gamma upto ~20%. This might have a significant impact to the disk solutions in explaining observed data, e.g. super-luminal jets from disks, luminosity, and then extracting fundamental properties from them. Hence any conclusion based on constant gamma and beta should be taken with caution and corrected.
