Magnetically Induced Schrödinger Cat States: The Shadow of a Quantum Space

Schrödinger cat states, which are superpositions of macroscopically distinct states, are potentially critical resources for upcoming quantum information technologies. In this paper, we introduce a scheme to generate entangled Schrödinger cat states in a non-relativistic electric dipole system situated on a two-dimensional plane, along with an external potential and a uniform strong magnetic field perpendicular to the plane. Additionally, our findings demonstrate that this setup can lead to the phenomenon of collapse and revival of entanglement for a specific range of our model parameters

Quantum ballet by gravitational waves: Generating entanglement's dance of revival-collapse and memory within the quantum system

Recent proposals are emerging for the experimental detection of entanglement mediated by classical gravity, carrying significant theoretical and observational implications. In fact, the detection of gravitational waves (GWs) in LIGO provides an alternative laboratory for testing various gravity-related properties. By employing LIGO's arms as oscillators interacting with gravitational waves (GWs), our study demonstrates the potential for generating quantum entanglement between two mutually orthogonal modes of simple harmonic oscillators. Our findings reveal unique entanglement dynamics, including periodic "collapse and revival" influenced by GW oscillations, alongside a distinct "quantum memory effect." Effectively, each harmonic oscillator feels a temperature. We believe that these forecasts may hold significance towards both theoretically probing and experimentally verifying various properties of classical gravitational waves.

Symmetry Duality: Exploring Exotic Oscillators And Dissipative Dynamics Through The Glass Of Newton-Hooke

Motivated by the symmetry in the non-relativistic limit of anti-de Sitter geometry, we employ planar dynamical models featuring exotic (deformed) harmonic oscillators, presented through direct and indirect Lagrangian representations. The latter introduces Bateman dissipative oscillator system. Analyzing these dynamic systems with a first-order Lagrangian scheme, our phase-space-based approach utilizes the moment map components to reveal the underlying symmetry algebra. This obtained algebra, interpreted as an extended version of Newton-Hooke (NH) cosmological symmetry algebras, has the potential to cast an augmented non-relativistic shadow over the expanding universe, offering an insightful perspective on extended NH spacetime in 2+1 dimensions through our dynamical realizations.

The hidden Lorentz Covariance of Quantum Mechanics

This paper introduces a systematic algorithm for deriving a new unitary representation of the Lorentz algebra ($so(1,3)$) and an irreducible unitary representation of the extended (anti) de-Sitter algebra ($so(2,4)$) on $\mathcal{L}^{2}(\mathcal{R}^{3},\frac{1}{r})$. This representation is equivalent to a representation on $\mathcal{L}^{2}(\mathcal{R}^{3})$, and the corresponding similarity transformation is identified. An explicit representation in terms of differential operators is given, and it is shown that the inner product is Lorentz invariant. Ensuring Lorentz covariance demands a modification of the Heisenberg algebra, recognized as a phase space algebra at the interface of gravitational and quantum realms (IGQR), which we consider subordinate to Lorentz covariance. It is also demonstrated that time evolution can be cast in a manifestly covariant form. Each mass sector of the Hilbert space carries a representation of the Lorentz algebra, and the (anti) de-Sitter algebra on each mass sector contracts to the Poincare algebra in the flat configuration and momentum space limits. Finally, we show that three-dimensional fuzzy space also carries a unitary representation of these algebras, algebraically equivalent to the $\mathcal{L}^{2}(\mathcal{R}^{3},\frac{1}{r})$ representation but not necessarily equivalent as representations. Several outstanding issues are identified for future exploration.

Low frequency gravitational waves emerge Berry phase

The detection of low frequency gravitational waves (LFGWs) astronomy has marked an advent of new era in the domain of astrophysics and general relativity. Using the framework of interaction between GWs and a point two-particles like detector, within linearized gravity approach, we propose a toy detector model whose quantum state is being investigated at a low-frequency of GWs. The detector is in simultaneous interaction with GWs and an external time-dependent (tuneable) two-dimensional harmonic potential. We observe that the interaction with low frequency GWs naturally provides adiabatic approximation in the calculation, and thereby can lead to a quantal geometric phase in the quantum states of the detector. Moreover this can be controlled by tuning the frequency of the external harmonic potential trap. We argue that such geometric phase detection may serve as a manifestation of the footprint of GWs. More importantly, our theoretical model may be capable of providing a layout for the detection of very small frequency GWs through Berry phase.

Symmetries of $κ$ Minkowski space-time: A possibility of exotic momentum space geometry?

The quest for a quantum gravity phenomenology has inspired a quantum notion of space-time, which motivates us to study the fate of the relativistic symmetries of a particular model of quantum space-time, as well as its intimate connection with the plausible emergent curved "physical momentum space". We here focus on the problem of Poincare symmetry of $κ$-Minkowski type non-commutative (quantum) space-time, where the Poincare algebra, on its own, remains undeformed, but in order to retain the structure of the space-time non-commutative (NC) algebra, action of the algebra generators on the operator-valued space-time manifold must be enveloping algebra valued that lives in entire phase space i.e. the cotangent bundle on the space-time manifold (at classical level). Further, we constructed a model for a spin-less relativistic massive particle enjoying the deformed Poincare symmetry, using the first order form of geometric Lagrangian, that satisfies a new deformed dispersion relation and explored a feasible regime of a future Quantum Gravity theory in which the momentum space becomes curved. In this scenario there is only a mass scale (Planck mass $m_{p}$), but no length scale. Finally, we relate the deformed mass shell to the geodesic distance in this curved momentum space, where the mass of the particle gets renormalized as a result of noncommutativity. We show, that under some circumstances, the Planck mass provides an upper bound for the observed renormalized mass.

Our Trysts with `Bal' and Noncommutative Geometry

This contributory article begins with our fond and sincere reminiscences about our beloved Prof. A.P. Balachandran. In the main part, we discuss our recent formulation of quantum mechanics on (1+1)D noncommutative space-time using Hilbert-Schmidt operators. As an application, we demonstrate how geometrical phase in a system of time-dependent forced harmonic oscillator living in the Moyal space-time can emerge.

Some Aspects of Quantum Mechanics and Quantum Field Theory on Quantum Space- Time

This thesis is devoted to studying various aspects of quantum mechanics on non-commutative space-time and to capture some of the surviving aspects of symmetries of quantum field theory on such space-time, illustrated through toy models in (0 + 1) dimension. This allows one to gain some insights into this and other related issues in a more transparent manner.

Spectral triple with real structure on fuzzy sphere

Here we have illustrated the construction of a real structure on fuzzy sphere $S^2_*$ in its spin-1/2 representation. Considering the SU(2) covariant Dirac and chirality operator on $S^2_*$ given by Watamura et. al. in [6], we have shown that the real structure is consistent with other spectral data for KO dimension-4 fulfilling the zero order condition, where we find it necessary to enlarge the symmetry group from SO(3) to the full orthogonal group O(3). However the first order condition is violated thus paving the way to construct a toy model for an SU(2) gauge theory to capture some features of physics beyond standard model following Connes et.al. [9].

Fingerprints of the quantum space-time in time-dependent quantum mechanics: An emergent geometric phase

We show the emergence of Berry phase in a forced harmonic oscillator system placed in the quantum space-time of Moyal type, where the time 't' is also an operator. An effective commutative description of the system gives a time dependent generalised harmonic oscillator system with perturbation linear in position and momentum. The system is then diagonalised to get a generalised harmonic oscillator and then its adiabatic evolution over time-period $\mathcal{T}$ is studied in Heisenberg picture to compute the expression of geometric phase-shift.

A note on broken dilatation symmetry in planar noncommutative theory

A study of a riveting connection between noncommutativity and the anomalous dilatation (scale) symmetry is presented for a generalized quantum Hall system due to time dilatation transformations. On using the "Peierls substitution" scheme, it is shown that noncommutativity between spatial coordinates emerges naturally at a large magnetic field limit. Thereafter, we derive a path-integral action for the corresponding noncommutative quantum system and discuss the equivalence between the considered noncommutative system and the generalized Landau problem thus rendering an effective commmutative description. By exploiting the path-integral method due to Fujikawa, we derive an expression for the unintegrated scale or dilatation anomaly for the generalized Landau system, wherein the anomalies are identified with Jacobian factors arising from measure change under scale transformation and is subsequently renormalised. In fact, we derive exact expressions of anomalous Ward identities from which one may point out the existence of scale anomaly which is a purely quantum effect induced from the noncommutative structure between spatial coordinates.

A Conformally Invariant Unified Theory of Maxwell Fields and Linearized Gravity as Emergent Fields

A Lorentz and conformally invariant `Schrödinger-like' equation for a massless complex scalar function $ψ$ is derived from an invariant action, and it is shown how the same $ψ$ can be used to calculate both the gravitational field $h_{μν}$ of linearized Einstein gravity in the TT gauge and the electromagnetic field $F_{μν}$ in the Lorenz gauge, and that the main difference between classical and quantum aspects of such fields lies in a certain condition that the underlying scalar wave must satisfy to keep it nondispersive. It is also shown how the existence of gravitons can be inferred from the state-dependent quantum noise they create in a model detector.

Emergence of Geometric phase shift in Planar Non-commutative Quantum Mechanics

Appearance of adiabatic geometric phase shift in the context of noncommutative quantum mechanics is studied using an exactly solvable model of 2D simple harmonic oscilator in Moyal plane, where momentum non-commutativity are also considered along with spatial noncommutativity. After finding a suitable Bopp shift, that bridges the noncommutative phase space operators with their effective commutative counterparts, having their dependence on the non-commutative parameters, we study the adiabatic evolution in the Heisenberg picture. An explicit expression for the geometric phase shift under adiabatic approximation is then found without using any perturbative technique. Lastly, this phase is found to be related to the Hannay angle of a classically analogous system, by studying the evolution of the coherent state of this system.

Effect of Non-commutativity of space-time on Thermodynamics of Photon gas

Doubly special relativity(DSR) introduce a minimal length scale i.e. the Planck length scale, which is independent length scale in addition to the speed of light in the normal special theory of relativity(STR). Doubly special relativity leads to study the $κ$-Minkowski space-time. In this paper, we present the result of our investigation on the thermodynamics of photon gas in the $κ$-Minkowski space-time. For studying this, we start with the $κ$-deformed dispersion relation and keep terms upto first order in the deformation parameter $a$ and we study that how does $κ$-deformed dispersion relation affect the thermodynamics of photon gas. In the limit, deformation parameter $a \rightarrow 0$, we get back all the results in the special theory of relativity(STR)\cite{partition}.

Effect of dynamical noncommutativity on the limiting mass of white dwarfs

The discovery of the existence of an upper bound on the mass of a white dwarf star is considered as one of the finest of twentieth century astrophysics. On approaching this limiting mass of $1.4M_\odot$, known as the Chandrasekhar mass-limit, a white dwarf is believed to spark of with an explosion called type Ia supernova, which is considered to be a standard candle. But since the last decade, observations of several over-luminous, peculiar type Ia supernovae indicate that the Chandrasekhar-limit be significantly larger. By postulating noncommutativity between the components of momentum variables, we show that the mass of white dwarfs can be enhanced significantly and arrive at a new super-Chandrasekhar mass limit of about $4.68M_\odot$. This can provide a plausible explanation for the origin of over-luminous peculiar type Ia supernovae.

Particle Dynamics and Lie-algebraic type of Non-commutativity of space-time

In this paper, we present the results of our investigation relating particle dynamics and non-commutativity of space-time by using Dirac's constraint analysis. In this study, we re-parameterise the time $t=t(τ)$ along with $x=x(τ)$ and treat both as configuration space variables. Here, $τ$ is a monotonic increasing parameter and the system evolves with this parameter. After constraint analysis, we find the deformed Dirac brackets similar to the $κ$-deformed space-time and also, get the deformed Hamilton's equations of motion. Moreover, we study the effect of non-commutativity on the generators of Galilean group and Poincare group and find undeformed form of the algebra. Also, we work on the extended space analysis in the Lagrangian formalism. We find the primary as well as the secondary constraints. Strikingly on calculating the Dirac brackets among the phase space variables, we obtain the classical version of $κ$-Minkowski algebra.

Connecting dissipation and noncommutativity: A Bateman system case study

Quantum effects on a pair of Bateman oscillators embedded in an ambient noncommutative space (Moyal plane) is analyzed using both path integral and canonical quantization schemes within the framework of Hilbert-Schmidt operator formulation. We adopt a method which is distinct from the one which employs 't Hooft's scheme of quantization, carried out earlier in the literature where the ambient space was taken to be commutative. Our quantization shows that we end up finally again with a Bateman system except that the damping factor undergoes renormalization. The corresponding expression shows that the renormalized damping factor can be non-zero even if "bare" one is zero to begin with. Conversely, the noncommuatative parameter $θ$, taken to be a free one now, can be fine-tuned to get a vanishing renormalized damping factor. This indicates a duality between dissipative commutative theory and non-dissipative noncommutative theory.

Quantum mechanics with space-time noncommutativity

We construct an effective commutative Schrödinger equation in Moyal space-time in $(1+1)$-dimension where both $t$ and $x$ are operator-valued and satisfy $\left[ \hat{t}, \hat{x} \right] = i θ$. Beginning with a time-reparametrised form of an action we identify the actions of various space-time coordinates and their conjugate momenta on quantum states, represented by Hilbert-Schmidt operators. Since time is also regarded as a configuration space variable, we show how an `induced' inner product can be extracted, so that an appropriate quantum mechanical interpretation is obtained. We then discuss several other applications of the formalism developed so far.
