Size, shape, density, and atmospheric limit of (50000) Quaoar revealed from 14 years of stellar occultation

We present results from 28 stellar occultations by the large Trans-Neptunian Object (50000) Quaoar registered between 2018 and 2025. By performing a joint analysis of this occultation data-set, along with other 9 published events, we were able to fit an oblate ellipsoid shape, with equatorial semi-axes, a and b of 566.1+2.5-2.2 km, and a polar semi-axis, c, of 511.2+3.6-3.7 km. It provides an equivalent volumetric diameter of 1094.4 +/- 4.6 km and polar oblateness of 0.097 +/- 0.011. Considering an absolute magnitude of H = 2.79 +/- 0.35, we derive a geometric albedo of pV = 0.125 +/- 0.038. We have derived new upper limits to the surface pressure of a CH4 atmosphere of 0.15 nbar (1-sigma) and 0.65 nbar (3-sigma). We also provide a table with the 36 new astrometric positions for Quaoar. Using the new system mass derived from Weywot's orbit around Quaoar, we calculated a density of 1.760 +/- 0.109 g/cm3. Moreover, from the derived size and rotation period (8.8394 +/- 0.0002 hours (Ortiz et al. 2003)), we calculate that, if Quaoar is in Maclaurin hydrostatic equilibrium state, it would have a density of 1.859 +/- 0.200 g/cm3. This result, within the error bars, is compatible with the value we found. Therefore, this work shows that Quaoar can be a Maclaurin object, being eligible as a dwarf planet.

Study of the chemical composition of fluoroalkylamines used in agriculture and medicine in the field of plasma incineration between 500 K and 20,000 K

Active ingredients containing fluorinated organic compounds such as Fluoroalkylamines or pyrimidine-based molecules are promising in the field of agriculture (pesticides and herbicides) and pharmacology (antibiotics). The massive use of these molecules will result in a massive increase in waste containing this type of molecule. Developed countries have restrictive waste management policies, which is not the case in developing countries. In the latter, we are witnessing a proliferation of storage areas and open-air disposal of waste, sometimes from developed countries. These practices have enormous consequences on the environment such as air, soil and water pollution and therefore on human health. One of the solutions already proven on solid waste would be the use of plasma torches. These torches can reach high temperatures (5,000 K to 20,000 K). However, the use of these means of treatment is not without danger since toxic or lethal molecules could be produced. In order to understand these difficulties, we propose to study the influence of air on the chemical composition of a plasma based on fluoroalkylamines (trifluoroethylamine: C2H4F3N, nonafluoropentylamine: C5H4F9N, etc.), at atmospheric pressure and at atmospheric pressure. local thermodynamic equilibrium (E.T.L), in a temperature range from 500 K to 20,000 K. In order to obtain the chemical composition of the plasma, we use the Gibbs free energy minimization method. The results obtained show that dangerous and toxic gaseous chemical species such as CF2, CO, HCN and HF appear at low temperatures with high concentration.

Influence of Perfluorinated Ionomer in PEDOT:PSS on the Rectification and Degradation of Organic Photovoltaic Cells

Poly(3,4-ethylenedioxythiophene):poly(styrenesulfonate) (PEDOT:PSS) is widely used to build optoelectronic devices. However, as a hygroscopic water-based acidic material, it brings major concerns for stability and degradation, resulting in an intense effort to replace it in organic photovoltaic (OPV) devices. In this work, we focus on the perfluorinated ionomer (PFI) polymeric additive to PEDOT:PSS. We demonstrate that it can reduce the relative amplitude of OPV device burn-in, and find two distinct regimes of influence. At low concentrations there is a subtle effect on wetting and work function, for instance, with a detrimental impact on the device characteristics, and above a threshold it changes the electronic and device properties. The abrupt threshold in the conducting polymer occurs for PFI concentrations greater than or equal to the PSS concentration and was revealed by monitoring variations in transmission, topography, work-function, wettability and OPV device characteristics. Below this PFI concentration threshold, the power conversion efficiency (PCE) of OPVs based on poly(3-hexylthiophene-2,5-diyl):[6,6]-phenyl-C61-butyric acid methyl ester (P3HT:PCBM) are impaired largely by low fill-factors due to poor charge extraction. Above the PFI concentration threshold, we recover the PCE before it is improved beyond the pristine PEDOT:PSS layer based OPV devices. Supplementary to the performance enhancement, PFI improves OPV device stability and lifetime. Our degradation study leads to the conclusion that PFI prevents water from diffusing to and from the hygrosopic PEDOT:PSS layer, which slows down the deterioration of the PEDOT:PSS layer and the aluminum electrode. These findings reveal mechanisms and opportunities that should be taken into consideration when developing components to inhibit OPV degradation.

Modelling and Analysing the Landing Gear System: a Solution with Event-B/Rodin

This paper presents a solution to the landing gear system case study using Event-B and Rodin. We study the whole system (both the digital part and the controlled part). We use feature augmentation to build an abstract model of the whole system and structural refinement to detail more specifically the digital part. The required safety properties are formalised and proved. We propose a specific approach to deal with a family of reachability properties. The experimentations conducted during the study are supported by the Rodin tools. We show that the presented solution is systematic and it can be applied to similar case studies.

Hyperbolic Dispersion Dominant Regime Identified through Spontaneous Emission Variations near Metamaterial Interfaces

Surface plasmon polariton, hyberbolic dispersion of energy and momentum, and emission interference provide opportunities to control photoluminescence properties. However, the interplays between these regimes need to be understood to take advantage of them in optoelectronic applications. Here, we investigate broadband variations induced by hyperbolic metamaterial (HMM) multilayer nanostructures on the spontaneous emission of selected organic chromophores. Experimental and calculated spontaneous emission lifetimes are shown to vary non-monotonously near HMM interfaces. With the SPP and interference dominant regimes. With the HMM number of pairs used as the analysis parameter, the lifetime is shown to be independent of the number of pairs in the surface plasmon polaritons, and emission interference dominant regimes, while it decreases in the Hyperbolic Dispersion dominant regime. We also show that the spontaneous emission lifetime is similarly affected by transverse positive and transverse negative HMMs. This work has broad implications on the rational design of functional photonic surfaces to control the luminescence of semiconductor chromophores.

Numerical calculation of the transport coefficients in thermal plasmas

-We have performed a new efficient method to calculate numerically the transport coefficients at high temperature. The collision theory was treated to study singularities that occur when evaluating the collision cross section. The transport coefficients (viscosity, diffusion coefficient, thermal and electrical conductivity) depend strongly on nature of the interaction between the particles that form the plasma and that is why it is necessary to determine the interaction potential accurately.

Multilevel Contracts for Trusted Components

This article contributes to the design and the verification of trusted components and services. The contracts are declined at several levels to cover then different facets, such as component consistency, compatibility or correctness. The article introduces multilevel contracts and a design+verification process for handling and analysing these contracts in component models. The approach is implemented with the COSTO platform that supports the Kmelia component model. A case study illustrates the overall approach.

Definition of a New Level One Test Case Measurements of Equilibrium Radiation from an Inductively Coupled Plasma in the Near-UV to Near-IR Spectral Region for a Titan-Type N2-CH4 Mixture. Preliminary Results

A test case, using a similar methodology and experimental set-up than previous test case TC5-Level 1 is presented in this paper. An inductively coupled plasma torch, working at atmospheric pressure, is used to create N2-CH4 Titan-like plasma (98%N2 - 2%CH4). The operating frequency and power are 64 MHz and 3 kW respectively. This kind of apparatus allows obtaining plasma in chemical and quasi-thermal equilibrium The spectral measurements cover the [300-800] nm range and are performed inside the induction coil. Each interesting spectrum is calibrated and compared to the line-by-line spectral code SPARTAN used for the simulation of the radiative emission of entry-type plasma. Finally, a discussion is proposed about the nucleation phenomenon which is occurred in the ICP torch with the N2-CH4 plasma. Preliminary studies show the synthesis of nanostructured carbon on the quartz tube.

Overview on Studies of Martian Like Co2-N2 Mixture by Inductively Coupled Plasma Torch

The purpose of the work is to make an overview on the results obtained through the studies on martian plasmas created by inductively coupled plasma torches (ICP). As the main advantage of the ICP torch is the absence of electrode compared to the others various test facilities, the radiative properties of this kind of plasmas are of interest to propose test cases in order to validate radiation models. ICP torches can work under various operating conditions in terms of pressure, enthalpy or flow. As a consequence, the studied plasma can be either at thermodynamical equilibrium or out of equilibrium, without problems of stability in time. The presentation concerns only the plasmas formed with a martian like CO2-N2 mixture and all the parameters of test facilities will be precised. The following paper corresponds to the first step of a global paper which will be proposed later and it reports only the oral presentation which has been done during the third International Workshop of RHTG.
