A bispectral q-hypergeometric basis for a class of quantum integrable models

For the class of quantum integrable models generated from the $q-$Onsager algebra, a basis of bispectral multivariable $q-$orthogonal polynomials is exhibited. In a first part, it is shown that the multivariable Askey-Wilson polynomials with $N$ variables and $N+3$ parameters introduced by Gasper and Rahman [1] generate a family of infinite dimensional modules for the $q-$Onsager algebra, whose fundamental generators are realized in terms of the multivariable $q-$difference and difference operators proposed by Iliev [2]. Raising and lowering operators extending those of Sahi [3] are also constructed. In a second part, finite dimensional modules are constructed and studied for a certain class of parameters and if the $N$ variables belong to a discrete support. In this case, the bispectral property finds a natural interpretation within the framework of tridiagonal pairs. In a third part, eigenfunctions of the $q-$Dolan-Grady hierarchy are considered in the polynomial basis. In particular, invariant subspaces are identified for certain conditions generalizing Nepomechie's relations. In a fourth part, the analysis is extended to the special case $q=1$. This framework provides a $q-$hypergeometric formulation of quantum integrable models such as the open XXZ spin chain with generic integrable boundary conditions ($q\neq 1$).

An attractive basis for the $q-$Onsager algebra

Let $\textsf{A},\textsf{A}^*$ be the fundamental generators of the $q-$Onsager algebra. A linear basis for the $q-$Onsager algebra is known as the `zig-zag' basis [IT09]. In this letter, an attractive basis for the $q-$Onsager algebra is conjectured, based on the relation between the $q-$Onsager algebra and a quotient of the infinite dimensional algebra ${\cal A}_q$ introduced in [BK05].

Non-Abelian symmetries of the half-infinite XXZ spin chain

The non-Abelian symmetries of the half-infinite XXZ spin chain for all possible types of integrable boundary conditions are classified. For each type of boundary conditions, an analog of the Chevalley-type presentation is given for the corresponding symmetry algebra. In particular, two new algebras arise that are, respectively, generated by the symmetry operators of the model with triangular and special $U_q(gl_2)-$invariant integrable boundary conditions.

Correlation functions of the half-infinite XXZ spin chain with a triangular boundary

The half-infinite XXZ spin chain with a triangular boundary is considered in the massive regime. Two integral representations of correlation functions are proposed using bosonization. Sufficient conditions such that the expressions for triangular boundary conditions coincide with those for diagonal boundary conditions are identified. As an application, summation formulae of the boundary expectation values $\langle σ_1^a\rangle $ with $a=z,\pm$ are obtained. Exploiting the spin-reversal property, relations between $n$-fold integrals of elliptic theta functions are extracted.

New results in the XXZ open spin chain

In this review, I describe a recent approach based on the representation theory of the $q-$Onsager algebra which is used to derive exact results for the XXZ open spin chain. The complete spectrum and eigenstates are obtained as rational functions of a single variable which discrete values correspond to the roots of a certain characteristic polynomial. Comments and open problems are also presented.

A family of tridiagonal pairs and related symmetric functions

A family of tridiagonal pairs which appear in the context of quantum integrable systems is studied in details. The corresponding eigenvalue sequences, eigenspaces and the block tridiagonal structure of their matrix realizations with respect the dual eigenbasis are described. The overlap functions between the two dual basis are shown to satisfy a coupled system of recurrence relations and a set of discrete second-order $q-$difference equations which generalize the ones associated with the Askey-Wilson orthogonal polynomials with a discrete argument. Normalizing the fundamental solution to unity, the hierarchy of solutions are rational functions of one discrete argument, explicitly derived in some simplest examples. The weight function which ensures the orthogonality of the system of rational functions defined on a discrete real support is given.

The q-deformed analogue of the Onsager algebra: Beyond the Bethe ansatz approach

The spectral properties of operators formed from generators of the q-Onsager non-Abelian infinite dimensional algebra are investigated. Using a suitable functional representation, all eigenfunctions are shown to obey a second-order q-difference equation (or its degenerate discrete version). In the algebraic sector associated with polynomial eigenfunctions (or their discrete analogues), Bethe equations naturally appear. Beyond this sector, where the Bethe ansatz approach is not applicable in related massive quantum integrable models, the eigenfunctions are also described. The spin-half XXZ open spin chain with general integrable boundary conditions is reconsidered in light of this approach: all the eigenstates are constructed. In the algebraic sector which corresponds to special relations among the parameters, known results are recovered.

Deformed Dolan-Grady relations in quantum integrable models

A new hidden symmetry is exhibited in the reflection equation and related quantum integrable models. It is generated by a dual pair of operators $\{\textsf{A}, \textsf{A}^*\}\in{\cal A}$ subject to $q-$deformed Dolan-Grady relations. Using the inverse scattering method, a new family of quantum integrable models is proposed. In the simplest case, the Hamiltonian is linear in the fundamental generators of ${\cal A}$. For general values of $q$, the corresponding spectral problem is quasi-exactly solvable. Several examples of two-dimensional massive/massless (boundary) integrable models are reconsidered in light of this approach, for which the fundamental generators of ${\cal A}$ are constructed explicitly and exact results are obtained. In particular, we exhibit a dynamical Askey-Wilson symmetry algebra in the (boundary) sine-Gordon model and show that asymptotic (boundary) states can be expressed in terms of $q-$orthogonal polynomials.

An integrable structure related with tridiagonal algebras

The standard generators of tridiagonal algebras, recently introduced by Terwilliger, are shown to generate a new (in)finite family of mutually commuting operators which extends the Dolan-Grady construction. The involution property relies on the tridiagonal algebraic structure associated with a deformation parameter $q$. Representations are shown to be generated from a class of quadratic algebras, namely the reflection equations. The spectral problem is briefly discussed. Finally, related massive quantum integrable models are shown to be superintegrable.

Hidden symmetries in quantum field theories from extended complex numbers

The 2-dimensional space-time sine-Gordon field theory is extended algebraically within the n-dimensional space of extended complex numbers. This field theory is constructed in terms of an adapted extension of standard vertex operators. A whole set of non-local conserved charges is constructed and studied in this framework. Thereby, an algebraic non-perturbative description is possible for this n-1 parameters family of quantum field theories. Known results are obtained for specific values of the parameters, especially in relation to affine Toda field theories. Different (dual)-models can then be described in this formalism.
