Leveraging Generative AI for Enhancing Domain-Driven Software Design

Domain-Driven Design (DDD) is a key framework for developing customer-oriented software, focusing on the precise modeling of an application's domain. Traditionally, metamodels that describe these domains are created manually by system designers, forming the basis for iterative software development. This paper explores the partial automation of metamodel generation using generative AI, particularly for producing domain-specific JSON objects. By training a model on real-world DDD project data, we demonstrate that generative AI can produce syntactically correct JSON objects based on simple prompts, offering significant potential for streamlining the design process. To address resource constraints, the AI model was fine-tuned on a consumer-grade GPU using a 4-bit quantized version of Code Llama and Low-Rank Adaptation (LoRA). Despite limited hardware, the model achieved high performance, generating accurate JSON objects with minimal post-processing. This research illustrates the viability of incorporating generative AI into the DDD process, improving efficiency and reducing resource requirements, while also laying the groundwork for further advancements in AI-driven software development.

Evaluating Vision Transformer Models for Visual Quality Control in Industrial Manufacturing

One of the most promising use-cases for machine learning in industrial manufacturing is the early detection of defective products using a quality control system. Such a system can save costs and reduces human errors due to the monotonous nature of visual inspections. Today, a rich body of research exists which employs machine learning methods to identify rare defective products in unbalanced visual quality control datasets. These methods typically rely on two components: A visual backbone to capture the features of the input image and an anomaly detection algorithm that decides if these features are within an expected distribution. With the rise of transformer architecture as visual backbones of choice, there exists now a great variety of different combinations of these two components, ranging all along the trade-off between detection quality and inference time. Facing this variety, practitioners in the field often have to spend a considerable amount of time on researching the right combination for their use-case at hand. Our contribution is to help practitioners with this choice by reviewing and evaluating current vision transformer models together with anomaly detection methods. For this, we chose SotA models of both disciplines, combined them and evaluated them towards the goal of having small, fast and efficient anomaly detection models suitable for industrial manufacturing. We evaluated the results of our experiments on the well-known MVTecAD and BTAD datasets. Moreover, we give guidelines for choosing a suitable model architecture for a quality control system in practice, considering given use-case and hardware constraints.

Untersuchung der Wirkung von Data Storytelling auf das Datenverstaendnis von Dashboard-Nutzern

With the increasing use of big data and business analytics, data storytelling has gained popularity as an effective means of communicating analytical insights to audiences to support decision making and improve business performance. However, there is little empirical evidence on the impact of data storytelling on data understanding. This study validates the concept of data storytelling as a construct in terms of its impact on users' data understanding. Based on empirical data analysis, the results of this study show that data storytelling competence is positively associated with organizational performance, which is partly due to the quality of the decision is conveyed. These results provide a theoretical basis for further investigation of potential antecedents and consequences of data storytelling.

NP-completeness of Partial Chirotope Extendibility

In the monograph "Axioms and Hulls" (1992) Donald Knuth studies some axiomatizations of geometric situations. The structures described by one of the axiom systems are called CC-systems. Knuth proves that it is NP-complete to decide, whether a partially defined CC-system can be extended to a complete CC-system. The aim of this note is to show that Knuth's proof of this result also implies that it is NP-complete to decide the extendability of partially defined chirotopes.
