Next-to-leading power threshold effects for resummed prompt photon production

We assess and compare different methods for including leading threshold logarithms at next-to-leading-power in prompt photon production at hadron colliders, for both the direct and parton fragmentation mechanisms. We do this in addition to next-to-leading logarithmic threshold and joint resummation at leading power. We study the size of these effects and their scale variations for LHC kinematics. We find that the next-to-leading power effects have a noticeable effect on the photon transverse momentum distribution, typically of order $\mathcal{O}(10\%)$, depending on the method of inclusion. Our results indicate that next-to-leading power terms can reduce the scale dependence of the distribution considerably.

NECTAR: Non-Interactive Smart Contract Protocol using Blockchain Technology

Blockchain-driven technologies are considered disruptive because of the availability of dis-intermediated, censorship-resistant and tamper-proof digital platforms of distributed trust. Among these technologies, smart contract platforms have the potential to take over functions usually done by intermediaries like banks, escrow or legal services. In this paper, we introduce a novel protocol aiming to execute smart contracts as part of a blockchain transaction validation. We enable extensions in the execution of smart contracts while guaranteeing their privacy, correctness and verifiability. Man-in-the-middle attacks are prevented, since no communication between participants is requested, and contract validations do not imply the re-execution of the code by all the nodes in the network. However, proofs of correct execution are stored on the blockchain and can be verified by multiple parties. Our solution is based on programming tools which optimize the time execution and the required memory while preserving the embedded functionality.

Updates of PDFs for the 2nd LHC run

I present results on continuing updates in PDFs within the framework now called MMHT14 due to both theory improvements and the inclusion of new data sets, including most of the up-to-date LHC data. A new set of PDFs is essentially finalised, with no changes expected to the PDFs presented here.

Soft-collinear effects for prompt photon production via fragmentation

We study the impact of leading soft-collinear effects on threshold and joint-resummed calculations for the production of prompt photons via parton fragmentation, complementing a previous study for direct production. We assess these effects for both fixed-target and collider kinematics. We find them to be small, but noticeable and comparable to the direct case.

Single-top production at hadron colliders

We review the recent theoretical progress in single-top physics at hadron colliders. Apart from single-top production within the Standard Model we treat certain aspects of single-top production in beyond Standard Model scenarios.

Angular correlations in t-channel single top production at the LHC

When a top quark decays there is a large amount of angular correlation, in its rest frame, between its spin orientation and the direction of flight of the charged lepton from its decay. In this letter we investigate the prospects of measuring this angular correlation using the MC@NLO framework. The strength of the correlation is investigated for different spin bases. The robustness against variations of PDF sets and uncertainties, factorization scale dependence, center-of-mass energy, and the jet R-parameter, is also examined.

Soft-collinear effects in prompt photon production

We extend next-to-leading logarithmic threshold and joint resummation for prompt photon production to include leading collinear effects. The impact of these effects is assessed for both fixed-target and collider kinematics. We find them in general to be small, but noticeable.
