Double circulant self-dual and LCD codes over Galois rings

This paper investigates the existence, enumeration and asymptotic performance of self-dual and LCD double circulant codes over Galois rings of characteristic $p^2$ and order $p^4$ with $p$ and odd prime. When $p \equiv 3 \pmod{4},$ we give an algorithm to construct a duality preserving bijective Gray map from such a Galois ring to $\mathbb{Z}_{p^2}^2.$ Using random coding, we obtain families of asymptotically good self-dual and LCD codes over $\mathbb{Z}_{p^2},$ for the metric induced by the standard $\mathbb{F}_p$-valued Gray maps.

On the proximity of large primes

By a sphere-packing argument, we show that there are infinitely many pairs of primes that are close to each other for some metrics on the integers. In particular, for any numeration basis $q$, we show that there are infinitely many pairs of primes the base $q$ expansion of which differ in at most two digits. Likewise, for any fixed integer $t,$ there are infinitely many pairs of primes, the first $t$ digits of which are the same. In another direction, we show that, there is a constant $c$ depending on $q$ such that for infinitely many integers $m$ there are at least $c\log \log m$ primes which differ from $m$ by at most one base $q$ digit.

Two weight $\mathbb{Z}_{p^k}$-codes, $p$ odd prime

We show that regular homogeneous two-weight $\mathbb{Z}_{p^k}$-codes where $p$ is odd and $k\geqslant 2$ with dual Hamming distance at least four do not exist. The proof relies on existence conditions for the strongly regular graph built on the cosets of the dual code.

$Θ_S-$cyclic codes over $A_k$

We study $Θ_S-$cyclic codes over the family of rings $A_k.$ We characterize $Θ_S-$cyclic codes in terms of their binary images. A family of Hermitian inner-products is defined and we prove that if a code is $Θ_S-$cyclic then its Hermitian dual is also $Θ_S-$cyclic. Finally, we give constructions of $Θ_S-$cyclic codes.

Constructions of optimal LCD codes over large finite fields

In this paper, we prove existence of optimal complementary dual codes (LCD codes) over large finite fields. We also give methods to generate orthogonal matrices over finite fields and then apply them to construct LCD codes. Construction methods include random sampling in the orthogonal group, code extension, matrix product codes and projection over a self-dual basis.

New Classes of $p$-ary Few Weights Codes

In this paper, several classes of three-weight codes and two-weight codes for the homogeneous metric over the chain ring $R=\mathbb{F}_p+u\mathbb{F}_p+\cdots +u^{k-1}\mathbb{F}_{p},$ with $u^k=0,$ are constructed, which generalises \cite{SL}, the special case of $p=k=2.$ These codes are defined as trace codes. In some cases of their defining sets, they are abelian. Their homogeneous weight distributions are computed by using exponential sums. In particular, in the two-weight case, we give some conditions of optimality of their Gray images by using the Griesmer bound. Their dual homogeneous distance is also given. The codewords of these codes are shown to be minimal for inclusion of supports, a fact favorable to an application to secret sharing schemes.

Twisted Centralizer Codes

Given an $n\times n$ matrix $A$ over a field $F$ and a scalar $a\in F$, we consider the linear codes $C(A,a):=\{B\in F^{n\times n}\mid \,AB=aBA\}$ of length $n^2$. We call $C(A,a)$ a twisted centralizer code. We investigate properties of these codes including their dimensions, minimum distances, parity-check matrices, syndromes, and automorphism groups. The minimal distance of a centralizer code (when $a=1$) is at most $n$, however for $a\ne 0,1$ the minimal distance can be much larger, as large as $n^2$.

Long quasi-polycyclic $t-$CIS codes

We study complementary information set codes of length $tn$ and dimension $n$ of order $t$ called ($t-$CIS code for short). Quasi-cyclic and quasi-twisted $t$-CIS codes are enumerated by using their concatenated structure. Asymptotic existence results are derived for one-generator and have co-index $n$ by Artin's conjecture for quasi cyclic and special case for quasi twisted. This shows that there are infinite families of long QC and QT $t$-CIS codes with relative distance satisfying a modified Varshamov-Gilbert bound for rate $1/t$ codes. Similar results are defined for the new and more general class of quasi-polycyclic codes introduced recently by Berger and Amrani.

On linear complementary-dual multinegacirculant codes

Linear codes with complementary-duals (LCD) are linear codes that intersect with their dual trivially. Multinegacirculant codes of index $2$ that are LCD are characterized algebraically and some good codes are found in this family. Exact enumeration is performed for indices 2 and 3, and for all indices $t$ for a special case of the co-index by using their concatenated structure. Asymptotic existence results are derived for the special class of such codes that are one-generator and have co-index a power of two by means of Dickson polynomials. This shows that there are infinite families of LCD multinegacirculant codes with relative distance satisfying a modified Varshamov-Gilbert bound.

Structure and Performance of Generalized Quasi-Cyclic Codes

Generalized quasi-cyclic (GQC) codes form a natural generalization of quasi-cyclic (QC) codes. They are viewed here as mixed alphabet codes over a family of ring alphabets. Decomposing these rings into local rings by the Chinese Remainder Theorem yields a decomposition of GQC codes into a sum of concatenated codes. This decomposition leads to a trace formula, a minimum distance bound, and to a criteria for the GQC code to be self-dual or to be linear complementary dual (LCD). Explicit long GQC codes that are LCD, but not QC, are exhibited.

On constacyclic codes over $\mathbb{Z}_4[u]/\langle u^2-1\rangle$ and their Gray images

We first define a new Gray map from $R=\mathbb{Z}_4+u\mathbb{Z}_4$ to $\mathbb{Z}^{2}_{4}$, where $u^2=1$ and study $(1+2u)$-constacyclic codes over $R$. Also of interest are some properties of $(1+2u)$-constacyclic codes over $R$. Considering their $\mathbb{Z}_4$ images, we prove that the Gray images of $(1+2u)$-constacyclic codes of length $n$ over $R$ are cyclic codes of length $2n$ over $\mathbb{Z}_4$. In many cases the latter codes have better parameters than those in the online database of Aydin and Asamov. We also give a corrected version of a table of new cyclic $R$-codes published by Özen et al. in Finite Fields and Their Applications, {\bf 38}, (2016) 27-39.

Two-weight and three-weight codes from trace codes over $\mathbb{F}_p+u\mathbb{F}_p+v\mathbb{F}_p+uv\mathbb{F}_p$

We construct an infinite family of two-Lee-weight and three-Lee-weight codes over the non-chain ring $\mathbb{F}_p+u\mathbb{F}_p+v\mathbb{F}_p+uv\mathbb{F}_p,$ where $u^2=0,v^2=0,uv=vu.$ These codes are defined as trace codes. They have the algebraic structure of abelian codes. Their Lee weight distribution is computed by using Gauss sums. With a linear Gray map, we obtain a class of abelian three-weight codes and two-weight codes over $\mathbb{F}_p$. In particular, the two-weight codes we describe are shown to be optimal by application of the Griesmer bound. We also discuss their dual Lee distance. Finally, an application to secret sharing schemes is given.

Three-weight codes and the quintic construction

We construct a class of three-Lee-weight and two infinite families of five-Lee-weight codes over the ring $R=\mathbb{F}_2 +v\mathbb{F}_2 +v^2\mathbb{F}_2 +v^3\mathbb{F}_2 +v^4\mathbb{F}_2,$ where $v^5=1.$ The same ring occurs in the quintic construction of binary quasi-cyclic codes. %The length of these codes depends on the degree $m$ of ring extension. They have the algebraic structure of abelian codes. Their Lee weight distribution is computed by using character sums. Given a linear Gray map, we obtain three families of binary abelian codes with few weights. In particular, we obtain a class of three-weight codes which are optimal. Finally, an application to secret sharing schemes is given.

Trace Codes with Few Weights over $\mathbb{F}_p+u\mathbb{F}_p$

We construct an infinite family of two-Lee-weight and three-Lee-weight codes over the chain ring $\mathbb{F}_p+u\mathbb{F}_p.$ They have the algebraic structure of abelian codes. Their Lee weight distribution is computed by using Gauss sums. Then by using a linear Gray map, we obtain an infinite family of abelian codes with few weights over $\mathbb{F}_p$. In particular, we obtain an infinite family of two-weight codes which meets the Griesmer bound with equality. Finally, an application to secret sharing schemes is given.

Decomposition of bent generalized Boolean functions

A one to one correspondence between regular generalized bent functions from $\F_2^n$ to $\Z_{2^m},$ and $m-$tuples of Boolean bent functions is established. This correspondence maps self-dual (resp. anti-self-dual) generalized bent functions to $m-$tuples of self-dual (resp. anti self-dual) Boolean bent functions. An application to the classification of regular generalized bent functions under the extended affine group is given.

Construction of MDS self-dual codes from orthogonal matrices

In this paper, we give algorithms and methods of construction of self-dual codes over finite fields using orthogonal matrices. Randomization in the orthogonal group, and code extension are the main tools. Some optimal, almost MDS, and MDS self-dual codes over both small and large prime fields are constructed.

On self-dual double negacirculant codes

Double negacirculant (DN) codes are the analogues in odd characteristic of double circulant codes. Self-dual DN codes of odd dimension are shown to be consta-dihedral. Exact counting formulae are derived for DN codes. The special class of length a power of two is studied by means of Dickson polynomials, and is shown to contain families of codes with relative distances satisfying a modified Gilbert-Varshamov bound.

$Z_4$-codes and their Gray map images as orthogonal arrays

A classic result of Delsarte connects the strength (as orthogonal array) of a linear code with the minimum weight of its dual: the former is one less than the latter. We show that Delsarte's observation extends to codes over arbitrary finite rings. Since the paper of Hammons \emph{et al.}, there is a lot of interest in codes over rings, especially in codes over $Z_4$ and their (usually non-linear) binary Gray map images. We show that Delsarte's observation extends to codes over arbitrary finite commutative rings with identity. Also, we show that the strength of the Gray map image of a $Z_4$ code is one less than the minimum Lee weight of its Gray map image.
