E-theory for $C^\ast$-Categories

$E$-theory was originally defined concretely by Connes and Higson and further work followed this construction. We generalise the definition to $C^\ast$-categories. $C^\ast$-categories were formulated to give a theory of operator algebras in a categorical picture and play important role in the study of mathematical physics. In this context, they are analogous to $C^\ast$-algebras and so have invariants defined coming from $C^\ast$-algebra theory but they do not yet have a definition of $E$-theory. Here we define $E$-theory for both complex and real graded $C^\ast$-categories and prove it has similar properties to $E$-theory for $C^\ast$-algebras.

Coarse Homotopy Groups

In this note on coarse geometry we revisit coarse homotopy. We prove that coarse homotopy indeed is an equivalence relation, and this in the most general context of abstract coarse structures. We introduce (in a geometric way) coarse homotopy groups. The main result is that the coarse homotopy groups of cone of a compact simplicial complex coincide with the usual homotopy groups of the underlying compact simplicial complex. To prove this we develop geometric triangulation techniques for cones which we expect to be of relevance also in different contexts.

Descent and the $KH$-assembly map

In this article we show that a general notion of descent in coarse geometry can be applied to the study of injectivity of the $KH$-assembly map. We also show that the coarse assembly map is injective in general for finite coarse $CW$-complexes.

An Analytic Novikov Conjecture for Semigroups

In this article we formulate a version of the analytic Novikov conjecture for semigroups rather than groups, and show that the descent argument from coarse geometry generalises effectively to this new situation.

The $K$-theory spectrum of the reduced group $C^\ast$-algebra is a functor

We construct $C^\ast$-categories that are anologues of the categories used in controlled algebraic $K$-theory. We then show that the reduced $C^\ast$-algebra of a finitely presented group and an associated controlled $C^\ast$-category have equivalent $K$-theory spectra, and that, at least in certain special cases, the associated $C^\ast$-category depends functorially on the group. Thus in these cases the $K$-theory spectrum of the reduced group $C^\ast$-algebra is a functor.

The General Notion of Descent in Coarse Geometry

In this article, we introduce the notion of a functor on coarse spaces being coarsely excisive- a coarse analogue of the notion of a functor on topological spaces being excisive. Further, taking cones, a coarsely excisive functor yields a topologically excisive functor, and for coarse topological spaces there is an associated coarse assembly map from the topologically exicisive functor to the coarsely excisive functor. We conjecture that this coarse assembly map is an isomorphism for uniformly contractible spaces with bounded geometry, and show that the coarse isomorphism conjecture, along with some mild technical conditions, implies that a correspoding equivariant assembly map is injective. Particular instances of this equivariant assembly map are the maps in the Farrell-Jones conjecture, and in the Baum-Connes conjecture.

The $KH$-Isomorphism Conjecture and Algebraic $KK$-theory

In this article we prove that the $KH$-asembly map, as defined by Bartels and L{ü}ck, can be described in terms of the algebraic $KK$-theory of Cortinas and Thom. The $KK$-theory description of the $KH$-assembly map is similar to that of the Baum-Connes assembly map. In very elementary cases, methods used to prove the Baum-Connes conjecture also apply to the $KH$-isomorphism conjecture.

Algebraic $K$-theory Spectra and Factorisations of Analytic Assembly Maps

In this article we use existing machinery to define connective $K$-theory spectra associated to topological ringoids. Algebraic $K$-theory of discrete ringoids, and the analytic $K$-theory of Banach categories are obtained as special cases. As an application, we show how the analytic assembly maps featuring in the Novikov and Baum-Connes conjectures can be factorised into composites of assembly maps resembling those appearing in algebraic $K$-theory and maps coming from completions of certain topological ringoids into Banach categories. These factorisations are proved by using existing characterisations of assembly maps along with our unified picture of algebraic and analytic $K$-theory.

KK-theory of C*-categories and the analytic assembly map

We define KK-theory spectra associated to C*-categories and look at certain instances of the Kasparov product at this level. This machinery is used to give a description of the analytic assembly map as a natural map of spectra.

Coarse homology theories

In this paper we develop an axiomatic approach to coarse homology theories. We prove a uniqueness result concerning coarse homology theories on the category of `coarse CW-complexes'. This uniqueness result is used to prove a version of the coarse Baum-Connes conjecture for such spaces.
