Ricci curvature lower bounds on Sasakian manifolds

Measure contraction property is a synthetic Ricci curvature lower bound for metric measure spaces. We consider Sasakian manifolds with non-negative Tanaka-Webster Ricci curvature equipped with the metric measure space structure defined by the sub-Riemannian metric and the Popp measure. We show that these spaces satisfy the measure contraction property $MCP(0,N)$ for some positive integer $N$. We also show that the same result holds when the Sasakian manifold is equipped with a family of Riemannian metrics extending the sub-Riemannian one.

On the Jordan-Kinderlehrer-Otto scheme

In this paper, we prove that the Jordan-Kinderlehrer-Otto scheme for a family of linear parabolic equations on the flat torus converges uniformly in space.

On measure contraction property without Ricci curvature lower bound

Measure contraction properties $MCP(K,N)$ are synthetic Ricci curvature lower bounds for metric measure spaces which do not necessarily have smooth structures. It is known that if a Riemannian manifold has dimension $N$, then $MCP(K,N)$ is equivalent to Ricci curvature bounded below by $K$. On the other hand, it was observed in \cite{Ri} that there is a family of left invariant metrics on the three dimensional Heisenberg group for which the Ricci curvature is not bounded below. Though this family of metric spaces equipped with the Harr measure satisfy $MCP(0,5)$. In this paper, we give sufficient conditions for a $2n+1$ dimensional weakly Sasakian manifold to satisfy $MCP(0,2n+3)$. This extends the above mentioned result on the Heisenberg group in \cite{Ri}.

Ricci curvature type lower bounds for sub-Riemannian structures on Sasakian manifolds

Measure contraction properties are generalizations of the notion of Ricci curvature lower bounds in Riemannian geometry to more general metric measure spaces. In this paper, we give sufficient conditions for a Sasakian manifold equipped with a natural sub-Riemannian distance to satisfy these properties. Moreover, the sufficient conditions are defined by the Tanaka-Webster curvature. This generalizes the earlier work in \cite{AgLe1} for the three dimensional case and in \cite{Ju} for the Heisenberg group. To obtain our results we use the intrinsic Jacobi equations along sub-Riemannian extremals, coming from the theory of canonical moving frames for curves in Lagrangian Grassmannians \cite{LiZe1, LiZe2}. The crucial new tool here is a certain decoupling of the corresponding matrix Riccati equation. It is also worth pointing out that our method leads to exact formulas for the measure contraction in the case of the corresponding homogeneous models in the considered class of sub-Riemannian structures.

Matrix Factorizations via the Inverse Function Theorem

We give proofs of QR factorization, Cholesky's factorization, and LDU factorization using the inverse function theorem. As a consequence, we obtain analytic dependence of these matrix factorizations which does not follow immediately using Gaussian elimination.

Generalized Li-Yau estimates and Huisken's monotonicity formula

We prove a generalization of the Li-Yau estimate for a board class of second order linear parabolic equations. As a consequence, we obtain a new Cheeger-Yau inequality and a new Harnack inequality for these equations. We also prove a Hamilton-Li-Yau estimate, which is a matrix version of the Li-Yau estimate, for these equations. This results in a generalization of Huisken's monotonicity formula for a family of evolving hypersurfaces. Finally, we also show that all these generalizations are sharp in the sense that the inequalities become equalities for a family of fundamental solutions, which however different from the Gaussian heat kernels on which the equality was achieved in the classical case.

Displacement interpolations from a Hamiltonian point of view

One of the most well-known results in the theory of optimal transportation is the equivalence between the convexity of the entropy functional with respect to the Riemannian Wasserstein metric and the Ricci curvature lower bound of the underlying Riemannian manifold. There are also generalizations of this result to the Finsler manifolds and manifolds with a Ricci flow background. In this paper, we study displacement interpolations from the point of view of Hamiltonian systems and give a unifying approach to the above mentioned results.

On curvature and hyperbolicity of monotone Hamiltonian systems

Assume that a Hamiltonian system is monotone. In this paper, we give several characterizations on when such a system is Anosov. Assuming that a monotone Hamiltonian system has no conjugate point, we show that there are two distributions which are invariant under the Hamiltonian flow. We show that a monotone Hamiltonian flow without conjugate point is Anosov if and only if these distributions are transversal. We also show that if the reduced curvature of the Hamiltonian system is non-positive, then the flow is Anosov if and only if the reduced curvature is negative somewhere along each trajectory.

A Remark on the Potentials of Optimal Transport Maps

Optimal maps, solutions to the optimal transportation problems, are completely determined by the corresponding c-convex potential functions. In this paper, we give simple sufficient conditions for a smooth function to be c-convex when the cost is given by minimizing a Lagrangian action.

The Ma-Trudinger-Wang curvature for natural mechanical actions

The Ma-Trudinger-Wang curvature --- or cross-curvature --- is an object arising in the regularity theory of optimal transportation. If the transportation cost is derived from a Hamiltonian action, we show its cross-curvature can be expressed in terms of the associated Jacobi fields. Using this expression, we show the least action corresponding to a harmonic oscillator has zero cross-curvature, and in particular satisfies the necessary and sufficient condition \Athreew\ for the continuity of optimal maps. We go on to study gentle perturbations of the free action by a potential, and deduce conditions on the potential which guarantee either that the corresponding cost satisfies the more restrictive condition \Athrees\ of Ma, Trudinger and Wang, or in some cases has positive cross-curvature. In particular, the quartic potential of the anharmonic oscillator satisfies \Athrees\ in the perturbative regime.

New examples on spaces of negative sectional curvature satisfying Ma-Trudinger-Wang conditions

In this paper, we study the Ma-Trudinger-Wang (MTW) conditions for cost functions $c$ which are of the form $c=l\circ d$, where $d$ is a Riemannian distance function with constant sectional curvature. In this case, the MTW conditions are equivalent to some computable conditions on the function $l$. As a corollary, we give some new costs on Riemannian manifolds of constant negative curvature for which the MTW conditions are satisfied.
