Towards cosmology with Void Lensing: how to find voids sensitive to weak-lensing and numerically interpret them

In this work, we present a study of the void lensing signal or the excess surface mass density (ESMD) around cosmic voids. First, we propose a new void-finder algorithm that is designed to capture the ESMD around voids. We compare our algorithm applied to projected slices with the ZOBOV void finder and find significantly deeper weak-lensing profiles for voids defined by our algorithm in the context of a realistic galaxy mock. Then we test the consistency between the measurements of the ESMD as measured through the shear of background galaxies and directly calculated through the dark matter density profiles of the same voids. We found inconsistencies for voids with diameter $\geq 100h^{-1}\mathrm{Mpc}$ along the line-of-sight, but the consistency holds for smaller voids, meaning that we are indeed probing the underlying dark matter field by measuring the shear around these voids. Moreover, we show that voids found in the projected slices, which are highly sensitive to lensing, are correlated to $3$D voids exhibiting intrinsic alignments between them.

DEMNUni: The imprint of massive neutrinos on the cross-correlation between cosmic voids and CMB lensing

Cosmic voids are a powerful probe of cosmology and are one of the core observables of upcoming galaxy surveys. The cross-correlations between voids and other large-scale structure tracers such as galaxy clustering and galaxy lensing have been shown to be very sensitive probes of cosmology and among the most promising to probe the nature of gravity and the neutrino mass. However, recent measurements of the void imprint on the lensed Cosmic Microwave Background (CMB) have been shown to be in tension with expectations based on LCDM simulations, hinting to a possibility of non-standard cosmological signatures due to massive neutrinos. In this work we use the DEMNUni cosmological simulations with massive neutrino cosmologies to study the neutrino impact on voids selected in photometric surveys, e.g. via Luminous Red Galaxies, as well as on the void- CMB lensing cross-correlation. We show how the void properties observed in this way (size function, profiles) are affected by the presence of massive neutrinos compared to the neutrino massless case, and show how these can vary as a function of the selection method of the void sample. We comment on the possibility for massive neutrinos to be the source of the aforementioned tension. Finally, we identify the most promising setup to detect signatures of massive neutrinos in the voids-CMB lensing cross-correlation and define a new quantity useful to distinguish among different neutrino masses by comparing future observations against predictions from simulations including massive neutrinos.

Cosmic voids and BAO with relative baryon-CDM perturbations

We study the statistics of various large-scale structure tracers in gravity-only cosmological simulations including baryons and cold dark matter (CDM) initialized with two different transfer functions, and simulated as two distinct fluids. This allows us to study the impact of baryon-CDM relative perturbations on these statistics. In particular, we focus on the statistics of cosmic voids, as well as on the matter and halo real-space 2-point correlation function and baryon acoustic oscillations (BAO) peak. We find that the void size function is affected at the 1-2% level at maximum, and that the impact is more important at higher redshift, while the void density profile and void bias are roughly unaffected. We do not detect a sizeable impact of relative baryon-CDM perturbations on the real-space correlation functions of matter and halos or the BAO peak, which is in line with results from previous works. Our results imply that it would be hard to use voids or real-space correlation functions to constrain baryon-CDM relative perturbations, but also that we might not have to include them in models for the analysis of future cosmological surveys data.

Redshift drift test of exotic singularity universes

We discuss how dynamical dark energy universes with exotic singularities may be distinguished from the standard $Λ$CDM model on the basis of their redshift drift signal, for which measurements both in the acceleration phase and in the deep matter era will be provided by forthcoming astrophysical facilities. Two specific classes of exotic singularity models are studied: sudden future singularity models and finite scale factor singularity models. In each class we identify the models which can mimic $Λ$CDM and play the role of dark energy as well as models for which redshift drift signals are significantly different from $Λ$CDM and the test can differentiate between them.
