Destabilization effect of exchange dipole-dipole interaction on the spectrum of electric dipolar ultracold Fermi gas

The self-consistent field approach for the electric dipolar ultracold spin-1/2 fermions is discussed. Contribution of the exchange part of the electric dipole interaction is found. Hence we obtain a model of dipolar fermions beyond the self-consistent field approximation. It is shown that the exchange interaction of electric dipolar fermions depends on the spin-polarisation of the system. For instance the electric dipole exchange interaction equals to zero for spin-unpolarised systems, namely all low laying quantum states occupied by two-particles with opposite spins. In opposite limit of the full spin polarisation of the degenerate fermions, then we have one particle in each quantum states, the exchange interaction has maximum value, which is comparable with the self-consistent field part of the dipole-dipole interaction. The self-consistent part of the electric dipole-dipole interaction gives a positive contribution into the spectrum of collective excitations, while the exchange part of the dipole-dipole interaction leads to a negative term in the spectrum. At angles between the equilibrium polarisation and the direction of wave propagation close to $π/2$ the full dipolar part of the spectrum becomes negative. At the electric dipole moment of fermions of order of several Debay the dipolar part is large enough to exceed the Fermi pressure, that reveals in an instability.

Simultaneous dipole and quadrupole moment contribution in the Bogoliubov spectrum: Application of the non-integral Gross-Pitaevskii equation

We present the Gross-Pitaevskii equation for Bose-Einstein condensates (BECs) possessing the electric dipole and the electric quadrupole moments in a non-integral form. These equations are coupled with the Maxwell equations. The model under consideration includes the dipole-dipole, the dipole-quadrupole, and the quadrupole-quadrupole interactions in terms of the electric field created by the dipoles and quadrupoles. We apply this model to obtain the Bogoliubov spectrum for three dimensional BECs with a repulsive short-range interaction. We obtain an extra term in the Bogoliubov spectrum in compare with the dipolar BECs. We show that the quadrupole-quadrupole interaction gives a positive contribution in the Bogoliubov spectrum. Hence this spectrum is stable.

Twisted behavior of dipolar BECs: Dipole-dipole interaction beyond the self-consistent field approximation and exchange electric dipole interaction

Dipole-dipole interaction is a long-range interaction, hence we could expect that the self-consistent field approximation might be applied. In most cases it is correct, but dipolar BECs reveal a surprise. Structure of the self-consistent field term requires that interacting particles are in different quantum states, while in BECs all particles in a single quantum state. This fact requires to consider the two-particle polarisation, which describes dipole-dipole interaction, in more details. We present this consideration and show an astonishing result that the two-particle quantum correlation in dipolar BECs reveals in the same form as the self-consistent field term.

Comment on "Spin Contribution to the Ponderomotive Force in a Plasma"

Several years ago, G. Brodin, A. P. Misra, and M. Marklund considered "Spin Contribution to the Ponderomotive Force in a Plasma" Phys. Rev. Lett. \textbf{105}, 105004 (2010). They applied a two fluid model of electron gas where spin-up and spin-down electrons are considered as two different species. Their approach to this problem appears to be in disagreement with the Pauli equation. The correct model is presented in this comment.

Spin-electron acoustic waves: The Landau damping and ion contribution in the spectrum

Separated spin-up and spin-down quantum kinetics is derived for more detailed research of the spin-electron acoustic waves. Kinetic theory allows to obtain spectrum of the spin-electron acoustic waves including effects of occupation of quantum states more accurately than quantum hydrodynamics. We apply quantum kinetic to calculate the Landau damping of the spin-electron acoustic waves. We have considered contribution of ions dynamics in the spin-electron acoustic wave spectrum. We obtain contribution of ions in the Landau damping in temperature regime of classic ions. Kinetic analysis for ion-acoustic, zero sound, and Langmuir waves at separated spin-up and spin-down electron dynamics is presented as well.

Separated spin-up and spin-down evolution of degenerated electrons in two dimensional systems: Dispersion of longitudinal collective excitations in plane and nanotube geometry

Applying the separated spin evolution quantum hydrodynamics to two-dimensional electron gas in plane samples and nanotubes located in external magnetic fields we find new kind of wave in electron gas, which is called the spin-electron acoustic wave. Separate spin-up electrons and spin-down electrons evolution reveals in replacement of the Langmuir wave by the couple of hybrid waves. One of two hybrid waves is the modified Langmuir wave. Another hybrid wave is the spin-electron acoustic wave. We study dispersion of these waves in two dimensional structures of electrons. We also consider dependence of dispersion properties on spin polarisation of electrons in external magnetic field.

Oblique propagation of longitudinal waves in magnetized spin-1/2 plasmas: Independent evolution of spin-up and spin-down electrons

We consider quantum plasmas of electrons and motionless ions. We describe separate evolution of spin-up and spin-down electrons. We present corresponding set of quantum hydrodynamic equations. We assume that plasmas are placed in an uniform external magnetic field. We account different occupation of spin-up and spin-down quantum states in equilibrium degenerate plasmas. This effect is included via equations of state for pressure of each species of electrons. We study oblique propagation of longitudinal waves. We show that instead of two well-known waves (the Langmuir wave and the Trivelpiece--Gould wave), plasmas reveal four wave solutions. New solutions exist due to both the separate consideration of spin-up and spin-down electrons \textit{and} different occupation of spin-up and spin-down quantum states in equilibrium state of degenerate plasmas.

Exchange effects in magnetized quantum plasmas

We apply the many-particle quantum hydrodynamics including the Coulomb exchange interaction to magnetized quantum plasmas. We consider a number of wave phenomenon under influence of the Coulomb exchange interaction. Since the Coulomb exchange interaction affects longitudinal and transverse-longitudinal waves we focus our attention to the Langmuir waves, Trivelpiece-Gould waves, ion-acoustic waves in non-isothermal magnetized plasmas, the dispersion of the longitudinal low-frequency ion-acoustic waves and low-frequencies electromagnetic waves at $T_{e}\gg T_{i}$ . We obtained the numerical simulation of the dispersion properties of different types of waves.

Radiative corrections to the Coulomb law and model of dense quantum plasmas: Dispersion of waves in magnetized quantum plasmas

Two kinds of the quantum electrodynamic radiative corrections to electromagnetic interaction and their influence on properties of highly dense quantum plasmas are considered. Linear radiative correction to the Coulomb interaction are considered. Its contribution in the spectrum of the Langmuir waves is presented. The second kind of the radiative corrections is related to nonlinearity of the Maxwell equations for strong electromagnetic field. Its contribution in spectrum of transverse waves of magnetized plasmas is briefly discussed. At consideration of the Langmuir wave spectrum we included effect of different distribution of the spin-up and spin-down electrons revealing in a shift of the Fermi pressure.

Separated spin-up and spin-down quantum hydrodynamics of degenerated electrons: spin-electron acoustic wave appearance

Quantum hydrodynamic (QHD) model of charged spin-1/2 particles contains physical quantities defined for all particles of a species including particles with spin-up and with spin-down. Different population of states with different spin direction is included in the spin density (magnetization). In this paper we derive a QHD model, which separately describes spin-up electrons and spin-down electrons. Hence we consider electrons with different projection of spin on the preferable direction as two different species of particles. We show that numbers of particles with different spin direction do not conserve. Hence the continuity equations contain sources of particles. These sources are caused by the interactions of spins with magnetic field. Terms of similar nature arise in the Euler equation. We have that z-projection of the spin density is no longer an independent variable. It is proportional to difference between concentrations of electrons with spin-up and electrons with spin-down. In terms of new model we consider propagation of waves in magnetized plasmas of degenerate electrons and motionless ions. We show that new form of QHD equations gives all solutions obtained from traditional form of QHD equations with no distinguish of spin-up and spin-down states. But it also reveals a sound-like solution we call the spin-electron acoustic wave. Coincidence of most solutions is expected since we started derivation with the same basic equation.

Hydrodynamic and kinetic models for spin-1/2 electron-positron quantum plasmas: Annihilation interaction, helicity conservation, and wave dispersion in magnetized plasmas

We discuss complete theory of spin-1/2 electron-positron quantum plasmas, when electrons and positrons move with velocities mach smaller than the speed of light. We derive a set of two fluid quantum hydrodynamic equations consisting of the continuity, Euler, spin (magnetic moment) evolution equations for each species. We explicitly include the Coulomb, spin-spin, Darwin and annihilation interactions. The annihilation interaction is the main topic of the paper. We consider contribution of the annihilation interaction in the quantum hydrodynamic equations and in spectrum of waves in magnetized electron-positron plasmas. We consider propagation of waves parallel and perpendicular to an external magnetic field. We also consider oblique propagation of longitudinal waves. We derive set of quantum kinetic equations for electron-positron plasmas with the Darwin and annihilation interactions. We apply the kinetic theory for the linear wave behavior in absence of external fields. We calculate contribution of the Darwin and annihilation interactions in the Landau damping of the Langmuir waves. We should mention that the annihilation interaction does not change number of particles in the system. It does not related to annihilation itself, but it exists as a result of interaction of an electron-positron pair via conversion of the pair into virtual photon. A pair of the non-linear Schrodinger equations for electron-positron plasmas including the Darwin and annihilation interactions. Existence of conserving helicity in electron-positron quantum plasmas of spinning particles with the Darwin and annihilation interactions is demonstrated. We show that annihilation interaction plays an important role in quantum electron-positron plasmas giving contribution of the same magnitude as the spin-spin interaction.

Exchange effects in Coulomb quantum plasmas: Dispersion of waves in 2D and 3D mediums

We describe quantum hydrodynamic equations with the Coulomb exchange interaction for three and two dimensional plasmas. Explicit form of the force densities are derived. We present non-linear Schrodinger equations (NLSEs) for the Coulomb quantum plasmas with the exchange interaction. We show contribution of the exchange interaction in the dispersion of the Langmuir, and ion-acoustic waves. We consider influence of the spin polarization ratio on strength of the Coulomb exchange interaction. This is important since exchange interaction between particles with same spin direction and particles with opposite spin directions are different. At small particle concentrations $n_{0}<<10^{25}cm^{-3}$ and small polarization the exchange interaction gives small decrease of the Fermi pressure. With increasing of polarization role of the exchange interaction becomes more important, so that it can overcome the Fermi pressure. The exchange interaction also decreases contribution of the Langmuir frequency. Ion-acoustic waves do not exist in limit of large polarization since the exchange interaction changes the sign of pressure. At large particle concentrations $n_{0}>>10^{25}cm^{-3}$ the Fermi pressure prevails over the exchange interaction for all polarizations. Similar picture we obtain for two dimensional quantum plasmas.

Influence of finite size of molecules on spectrum of fully polarized dipolar BECs: Generalization of Bogoliubov's spectrum

We discuss complete theory of point-like particles in fully polarized BECs describing difference in behaviour of electrically- and magnetically polarized BECs. Next we present generalization of this theory on finite size particles to include contribution of size of real molecules on dynamical properties of dipolar BECs. As an application of obtained equation we calculate spectrum of linear collective excitations getting generalization of the Bogoliubov's spectrum. We show absence of roton instability due to positivity of polarization contribution in the excitation spectrum. We found that new type of instabilities appears in small wave length limit due to finite size of molecules.

Ion sound and dust acoustic waves at finite size of plasma particles

We consider influence of finite size of ions on properties of classic plasmas. We focus our attention on the ion sound for electron-ion plasmas. We also consider dusty plasmas, where we account finite size of ions and particles of dust and consider the dispersion of dust acoustic waves. Finite size of particles affects classical plasma properties. Finite size of particles gives considerable contribution for small wave lengths, which is area of appearing of quantum effects. Consequently, it is very important to consider finite size of ions in quantum plasmas as well.

NLSE for quantum plasmas with the radiation damping

We consider contribution of the radiation damping in the quantum hydrodynamic equations for spinless particles. We discuss possibility of obtaining of corresponding non-linear Schrodinger equation (NLSE) for the macroscopic wave function. We compare contribution of the radiation damping with weakly (or semi-) relativistic effects appearing in the second order by v/c. The radiation damping appears in the third order by v/c. So it might be smaller than weakly relativistic effects, but it gives damping of the Langmuir waves which can be considerable.

On a consistent macroscopic description for a spin quantum plasma with interparticle interactions

Quantum mechanical averaging of the particle concentration operator is an effective starting point for derivation of the many-particle quantum hydrodynamic equations. In many-particle quantum systems, we have to separate the ordered motion of the local center of mass (velocity field), the thermal, and the quantum motion. The quantum mechanical average process, invoked here, is completely determined, and is different from the usual averaging processes that introduces undefined probabilities for quantum states. It is shown that the Madelung decomposition for the $N$-particle spinor wave function allows the correct introduction of the velocity field, and gives explicit expressions for the quantum contributions to both the momentum, and the spin flux. The formalism also contains plasma effects produced by the Coulomb and spin-spin interparticle interactions. It is shown that both interactions appear in plasma dynamics as effective electric and magnetic fields. As result we find a fully coherent description for spin quantum plasma in the self-consistent field approximation for interparticle interactions. A simple consequence - the change brought about by interparticle correlations on the propagation of electrostatic waves in a spin quantum plasma - is discussed.

Non-integral form of the Gross-Pitaevskii equation for polarized molecules

The Gross-Pitaevskii equation for polarized molecules is an integro-differential equation, consequently it is complicated for solving. We find a possibility to represent it as a non-integral nonlinear Schrodinger equation, but this equation should be coupled with two linear equations describing electric field. These two equations are the Maxwell equations. We recapture the dispersion of collective excitations in the three dimensional electrically polarized BEC with no evolution of the electric dipole moment directions. We trace the contribution of the electric dipole moment. We explicitly consider the contribution of the electric dipole moment in the interaction constant for the short-range interaction. We show that the spectrum of dipolar BEC reveals no instability at repulsive short-range interaction. Nonlinear excitations are also considered. We present dependence of the bright soliton characteristics on the electric dipole moment.

The quantum hydrodynamic description of quantum gases with different interactions

We describe recent development of quantum hydrodynamics for ultracold Bose particle studying and consider different kinds of interactions. The method of derivation of equations describing the evolution of the neutral Bose particle system at low temperatures is described. Despite the fact that we consider the neutral particles we account the short-range interaction between particles. We consider the particles in the Bose-Einstein condensate (BEC) state. This method is called the method of quantum hydrodynamics, because natural for of the quantum mechanics rewritten in terms of material fields of observable quantities in three dimensional space is the set of equations, which look like the hydrodynamics equations. It can be shown that from the quantum hydrodynamics equations can be derived macroscopic non-linear Schrodinger equation. Most famous non-linear Schrodinger equation is the Gross-Pitaevskii (GP) equation, which contains nonlinearity of the third degree. There are generalizations of the GP equation. New term appears in the GP equation at account of the three-particle interaction. This term contains nonlinearity of the fifth degree. At more detailed account of the two particle interaction we come to the nonlocal non-linear Schrodinger equation. This equation contains spatial derivatives of the order parameter in the non-linear terms caused by the interaction. In this terminology the GP equation corresponds to the first order by the interaction radius. For the BEC of the neutral particles with anisotropic long-range dipole-dipole interaction the generalization of the GP equation was also suggested. Detailed analyses of the applicability conditions shows that this equation valid for the system of dipoles parallel to each other, which do not change their direction, and where the dipole-dipole interaction interferences translational motion of particles.
