Traveling waves for combustion reaction-diffusion-convection equations: the full range of wave speeds

We consider traveling wave solutions to a reaction--diffusion--convection equation with a combustion-type reaction term. While a necessary condition for the existence of traveling waves is $c \geq H^*:=\sup_{0<u \leq θ} \big(-\frac{1}{u} \int_0^u h(σ)\,dσ\big)$, where $c$ denotes the wave speed, $θ\in(0,1)$ the ignition threshold, and $h$ the convective term, the available results in \cite{DZ25,MM03} establish existence and nonexistence only under the restriction $c \geq -\min_{u\in[0,1]} h(u)$. In this note, we close this gap by covering the entire range $c\ge H^*$.

Traveling waves for bistable reaction-diffusion-convection equations with discontinuous density-dependent coefficients

Continuing our previous study \cite{DJKZ} on the monostable reaction-diffusion-convection equation, we analyze the bistable case under weak regularity assumptions. Our approach applies monostable results on the subintervals where the reaction term $g$ has constant sign, thereby establishing both existence and nonexistence of bistable traveling wave solutions. We extend the results of \cite{MMM04}, obtained for $p=2$ under higher regularity assumptions ($d \in C^1[0,1]$, $g,h \in C[0,1]$), to the $p$-Laplacian with $p>1$ in our weak regularity setting.

Traveling waves for monostable reaction-diffusion-convection equations with discontinuous density-dependent coefficients

This paper concerns wave propagation in a class of scalar reaction-diffusion-convection equations with $p$-Laplacian-type diffusion and monostable reaction. We introduce a new concept of a non-smooth traveling wave profile, which allows us to treat discontinuous diffusion with possible degenerations and singularities at 0 and 1, as well as only piecewise continuous convective velocity. Our approach is based on comparison arguments for an equivalent non-Lipschitz first-order ODE. We formulate sufficient conditions for the existence and non-existence of these generalized solutions and discuss how the convective velocity affects the minimal wave speed compared to the problem without convection. We also provide brief asymptotic analysis of the profiles, for which we need to assume power-type behavior of the diffusion and reaction terms.

Traveling waves in reaction-diffusion-convection equations with combustion nonlinearity

This paper concerns the existence and properties of traveling wave solutions to reaction-diffusion-convection equations on the real line. We consider a general diffusion term involving the $p$-Laplacian and combustion-type reaction term. We extend and generalize the results established for $p=2$ to the case of singular and degenerate diffusion. Our approach allows for non-Lipschitz reaction as well. We also discuss the shape of the traveling wave profile near equilibria, assuming power-type behavior of the reaction and diffusion terms.

An existence result for anisotropic quasilinear problems

We study existence of solutions for a boundary degenerate (or singular) quasilinear equation in a smooth bounded domain under Dirichlet boundary conditions. We consider a weighted $p-${L}aplacian operator with a coefficient that is {locally bounded inside the domain and satisfying certain additional integrability assumptions}. Our main result applies for boundary value problems involving continuous non-linearities having no growth restriction, but provided the existence of a sub and a supersolution is guaranteed. As an application, we present an existence result for a boundary value pro\-blem with a non-linearity $f(u)$ satisfying $f(0) \leq 0$ and having $(p-1)-$sublinear growth at infinity.

On partially free boundary solutions for elliptic problems with non-Lipschitz nonlinearities

We show that the elliptic equation with a non-Lipschitz right-hand side, $-Δu = λ|u|^{β-1}u - |u|^{α-1}u$ with $λ>0$ and $0<α<β<1$, considered on a smooth star-shaped domain $Ω$ subject to zero Dirichlet boundary conditions, might possess a nonnegative ground state solution which violates Hopf's maximum principle only on a nonempty subset $Γ$ of the boundary $\partialΩ$ such that $Γ\neq \partialΩ$.

On the eigenvalue problem involving the weighted $p$-Laplacian in radially symmetric domains

We investigate the following eigenvalue problem \begin{align*} \begin{cases} -\operatorname{div}\left( L(x) |\nabla u| ^{p-2}\nabla u\right)=λK(x)|u|^{p-2}u \quad \text{in } A_{R_1}^{R_2} , u=0\quad \text{on } \partial A_{R_1}^{R_2} , \end{cases} \end{align*} where $A_{R_1}^{R_2}:=\{x\in\mathbb{R}^N: R_1<|x| 0$ is a parameter, the weights $L$ and $K$ are measurable with $L$ positive a.e. in $A_{R_1}^{R_2}$ and $K$ possibly sign-changing in $A_{R_1}^{R_2}$. We prove the existence of the first eigenpair and discuss the regularity and positiveness of eigenfunctions. %apriori bounds of any eigenfunction as well as local boundedness. The asymptotic estimates for $u(x)$ and $\nabla u(x)$ as $|x|\to R_1^+$ or $R_2^-$ are also investigated.

On full Zakharov equation and its approximations

We study the solvability of the Zakharov equation $$Δ^2 u + (κ-ω^2)Δu - κ\,\text{div} \left(e^{-|\nabla u|^2} \nabla u\right) = 0$$ in a bounded domain under homogeneous Dirichlet or Navier boundary conditions. This problem is a consequence of the system of equations derived by Zakharov to model the Langmuir collapse in plasma physics. Assumptions for the existence and nonexistence of a ground state solution as well as the multiplicity of solutions are discussed. Moreover, we consider formal approximations of the Zakharov equation obtained by the Taylor expansion of the exponential term. We illustrate that the existence and nonexistence results are substantially different from the corresponding results for the original problem.

Convergence to traveling waves in the Fisher-Kolmogorov equation with a non-Lipschitzian reaction term

We consider the semi linear Fisher-Kolmogorov-Petrovski-Piscounov equation for the advance of an advantageous gene in biology. Its non-smooth reaction function $f(u)$ allows for the introduction of travelling waves with a new profile. We study existence, uniqueness, and long-time asymptotic behavior of the solutions $u(x,t)$, $(x,t)\in \mathbb{R}\times \mathbb{R}_+$. We prove also the existence and uniqueness (up to a spatial shift) of a travelling wave $U$. Our main result is the uniform convergence (for $x\in \mathbb{R}$) of every solution $u(x,t)$ of the Cauchy problem to a single traveling wave $U(x-ct + ζ)$ as $t\to \infty$. The speed $c$ and the travelling wave $U$ are determined uniquely by $f$, whereas the shift $ζ$ is determined by the initial data.

Caccioppoli--type estimates and Hardy--type inequalities derived from degenerated $p$--harmonic problems

We obtain Caccioppoli--type estimates for nontrivial and nonnegative solutions to the anticoercive partial differential inequalities of elliptic type involving degenerated $p$--Laplacian: $-Δ_{p,a} u:= -\mathrm{div}(a(x)|\na u|^{p-2}\na u)\ge b(x)Φ(u)$, where $u$ is defined in a domain $Ω$. Using Caccioppoli--type estimates, we obtain several variants of Hardy--type inequalities in weighted Sobolev spaces.
