Strong monogamies of no-signaling violations for bipartite correlation Bell inequalities

The phenomenon of monogamy of Bell inequality violations is interesting both from the fundamental perspective as well as in cryptographic applications such as the extraction of randomness and secret bits. In this article, we derive new and stronger monogamy relations for violations of Bell inequalities in general no-signaling theories. These relations are applicable to the class of binary output correlation inequalities known as XOR games, and to a restricted set of unique games. In many instances of interest, we show that the derived relation provides a significant strengthening over previously known results. The result involves a shift in paradigm towards the importance in monogamies of the number of inputs of one party which lead to a contradiction from local realistic predictions.

Multiaccess quantum communication and product higher rank numerical range

In the present paper we initiate the study of the product higher rank numerical range. The latter, being a variant of the higher rank numerical range [M.--D. Choi {\it et al.}, Rep. Math. Phys. {\bf 58}, 77 (2006); Lin. Alg. Appl. {\bf 418}, 828 (2006)], is a natural tool for studying construction of quantum error correction codes for multiple access channels. We review properties of this set and relate it to other numerical ranges, which were recently introduced in the literature. Further, the concept is applied to the construction of codes for bi--unitary two--access channels with a hermitian noise model. Analytical techniques for both outerbounding the product higher rank numerical range and determining its exact shape are developed for this case. Finally, the reverse problem of constructing a noise model for a given product range is considered.

Constructive entanglement test from triangle inequality

We derive a simple lower bound on the geometric measure of entanglement for mixed quantum states in the case of a general multipartite system. The main ingredient of the presented derivation is the triangle inequality applied to the root infidelity distance in the space of density matrices. The obtained bound leads to entanglement criteria with a straightforward interpretation. Proposed criteria provide an experimentally accessible, powerful entanglement test.

Conjectured strong complementary-correlations tradeoff

We conjecture new uncertainty relations which restrict correlations between results of measurements performed by two separated parties on a shared quantum state. The first uncertainty relation bounds the sum of two mutual informations when one party measures a single observable and the other party measures one of two observables. The uncertainty relation does not follow from Maassen-Uffink uncertainty relation and is much stronger than Hall uncertainty relation derived from the latter. The second uncertainty relation bounds the sum of two mutual informations when each party measures one of two observables. We provide numerical evidence for validity of conjectured uncertainty relations and prove them for large classes of states and observables.

Sensitivity of the decay of entanglement of quantum dot spin qubits to the magnetic field

We study the decay of entanglement of quantum dot electron-spin qubits under hyperfine interaction mediated decoherence. We show that two qubit entanglement of a single entangled initial state may exhibit decay characteristic of the two disentanglement regimes in a single sample, when the external magnetic field is changed. The transition is manifested by the supression of time-dependent entanglement oscillations which are superimposed on the slowly varying entanglement decay related to phase decoherence (which result in oscillatory behaviour of entanglement sudden death time as a function of the magnetic field). This unique behaviour allows us to propose the double quantum dot two-electron spin Bell state as a promising candidate for precise measurements of the magnetic field.

Separability in terms of a single entanglement witness

The separability problem is formulated in terms of a characterization of a single entanglement witness. More specifically, we show that any (in general multipartite) state \varrho is separable if and only if a specially constructed entanglement witness W_{\varrho} is weakly optimal, i.e., its expectation value vanishes on at least one product vector. Interestingly, the witness can always be chosen to be decomposable. Our result changes the conceptual aspect of the separability problem and rises some questions about properties of positive maps.

Symmetry-based estimation of lower bound on secure key rate of noisy private states

Quantum private states are the states that represent some amount of perfect secure key. A simple symmetry of any generalised private quantum state (ie. the states that represent perfect key but not fully random) is provided and extended on Devetak-Winter so called ccq (classical-classical-quantum) and cqq (classical-quantum-quantum) lower bound on secure key. This symmetry is used to develop a practical method of estimating the Alice measurement that is optimal form the perspective of single shot Devetak-Witner lower bound on secure key. The method is particularly good when the noise does not break the symmetry of the state with respect to the lower bound formula. It suggest a general paradigm for quick estimation of quantum communication rates under the symmetry of a given resource like state and/or channel.

Free randomness amplification using bipartite chain correlations

A direct analysis of the protocol of randomness amplification using Bell inequality violation is performed in terms of the convex combination of no-signaling boxes required to simulate quantum violation of the inequality. The probability distributions of bits generated by a Santha-Vazirani source are shown to be mixtures of permutations of Bernoulli distributions with parameter defined by the source. An intuitive proof is provided for the range of partial randomness from which perfect randomness can be extracted using quantum correlations violating the chain inequalities. Exact values are derived in the asymptotic limit of a large number of measurement settings.

Anomalous decay of quantum correlations of quantum dot qubits

We study the evolution of quantum correlations, quantified by the geometric discord, of two excitonic quantum dot qubits under the influence of the phonon environment. We show that the decay of these correlations differs substantially form the decay of entanglement. Instead of displaying sudden death type behavior, the geometric discord shows a tendency to undergo transitions between different types of decay, is sensitive to non-local phase factors, and may already be enhanced by weak environment-mediated interactions. Hence, two-qubit quantum correlations are more robust under decoherence processes, while showing a richer and more complex spectrum of behavior under unitary and non-unitary evolution.

Collectibility for Mixed Quantum States

Bounds analogous to entropic uncertainty relations allow one to design practical tests to detect quantum entanglement by a collective measurement performed on several copies of the state analyzed. This approach, initially worked out for pure states only [Phys. Rev. Lett. 107, 150502 (2011)], is extended here for mixed quantum states. We define collectibility for any mixed states of a multipartite system. Deriving bounds for collectibility for positive partially transposed states of given purity provides a new insight into the structure of entangled quantum states. In case of two qubits the application of complementary measurements and coincidence based detections leads to a new test of entanglement of pseudopure states.

Convergence to equilibrium under a random Hamiltonian

We analyze equilibration times of subsystems of a larger system under a random total Hamiltonian, in which the basis of the Hamiltonian is drawn from the Haar measure. We obtain that the time of equilibration is of the order of the inverse of the arithmetic average of the Bohr frequencies. To compute the average over a random basis, we compute the inverse of a matrix of overlaps of operators which permute four systems. We first obtain results on such a matrix for a representation of an arbitrary finite group and then apply it to the particular representation of the permutation group under consideration.

Quantum privacy witness

While it is usually known that the mean value of a single observable is enough to detect entanglement or its distillability, the counterpart of such an approach in the case of quatum privacy has been missing. Here we develop the concept of a privacy witness, i.e. a single observable that may detect presence of the secure key even in the case of bound entanglement. Then we develop the notion of secret key estimation based on few observables and discuss the witness decomposition into local measurements. The surprising property of the witness is that with the help of a low number of product mesurements involved it may still report the key values that are {\it strictly above} distillable entanglement of the state. For an exemplary four-qubit state studied in a recent experiment [K. Dobek {\em et al.}, Phys. Rev. Lett. {\bf 106}, 030501 (2011)] this means 6 Pauli operator product measurements versus 81 needed to carry out the complete quantum state tomography. The present approach may be viewed as a paradigm for the general program of experimentally friendly detection and estimation of task-dedicated quantum entanglement.

Collective Uncertainty Entanglement Test

For a given pure state of a composite quantum system we analyze the product of its projections onto a set of locally orthogonal separable pure states. We derive a bound for this product analogous to the entropic uncertainty relations. For bipartite systems the bound is saturated for maximally entangled states and it allows us to construct a family of entanglement measures, we shall call collectibility. As these quantities are experimentally accessible, the approach advocated contributes to the task of experimental quantification of quantum entanglement, while for a three-qubit system it is capable to identify the genuine three-party entanglement.

Aspects of multistation quantum information broadcasting

We study quantum information transmission over multiparty quantum channel. In particular, we show an equivalence of different capacity notions and provide a multiletter characterization of a capacity region for a general quantum channel with $k$ senders and $m$ receivers. We point out natural generalizations to the case of two-way classical communication capacity.

A few steps more towards NPT bound entanglement

We consider the problem of existence of bound entangled states with non-positive partial transpose (NPT). As one knows, existence of such states would in particular imply nonadditivity of distillable entanglement. Moreover it would rule out a simple mathematical description of the set of distillable states. Distillability is equivalent to so called n-copy distillability for some n. We consider a particular state, known to be 1-copy nondistillable, which is supposed to be bound entangled. We study the problem of its two-copy distillability, which boils down to show that maximal overlap of some projector Q with Schmidt rank two states does not exceed 1/2. Such property we call the the half-property. We first show that the maximum overlap can be attained on vectors that are not of the simple product form with respect to cut between two copies. We then attack the problem in twofold way: a) prove the half-property for some classes of Schmidt rank two states b) bound the required overlap from above for all Schmidt rank two states. We have succeeded to prove the half-property for wide classes of states, and to bound the overlap from above by c<3/4. Moreover, we translate the problem into the following matrix analysis problem: bound the sum of the squares of the two largest singular values of matrix A \otimes I + I \otimes B with A,B traceless 4x4 matrices, and Tr A^\dagger A + Tr B^\dagger B = 1/4.

"Interaction--free'' interaction: entangling evolution via quantum Zeno effect

The effect of entangling evolution induced by frequently repeated quantum measurement is presented. The interesting possibility of conditional freezing the system in maximally entangled state out of Zeno effect regime is also revealed. The illustration of the phenomena in terms of dynamical version of ``interaction free'' measurement is presented. Some general conclusions are provided.
