Exclusive Quark and Gluon Dijet Production as Probes of GPDs at Collider Energies

We study exclusive electroproduction of dijets in the collinear factorization framework as a probe of generalized parton distributions (GPDs). For quark dijet production, we extend previous analyses by including contributions from helicity GPDs and by assessing an additional leading-order electromagnetic channel governed by elastic nucleon form factors. Furthermore, we investigate exclusive gluon dijet production. We compare our prediction to HERA data and provide projections for measurements at the future Electron-Ion Collider.

A Unified Neural-Network Framework for Nucleon Imaging from Numerical Simulations of QCD

Parton distributions encode the momentum-space structure and, in their generalizations, the spatial tomography of quarks and gluons inside hadrons, the building blocks of visible matter. We present a unified neural-network approach that learns these distributions directly from matrix elements calculated via numerical simulations of quantum chromodynamics (QCD) on the lattice by fitting two complementary inputs simultaneously: data matched to physical quantities via known momentum-space and coordinate-space formalisms. Utilizing data from both methods stabilizes the extraction and mitigates biases that can arise when either is used alone. We validate the method on controlled mock data and apply it to lattice-QCD matrix elements to extract parton distribution functions (PDFs). We show benefits of such an approach for determining the physical quantities. We further extend the framework to zero-skewness generalized parton distributions and demonstrate nucleon tomography within the same neural-network parameterization. Our results provide an adaptable and systematically improvable approach for extracting partonic distributions from Euclidean correlators. It can incorporate polarization, additional channels, and future experimental constraints from current and future facilities, such as the Electron-Ion Collider.

Improved phenomenology of $πN$ transition distribution amplitudes

To study cross sections and polarization asymmetries for the processes $e p \to e n π^+$ and $e p \to e p π^0$ in the backward region, we develop a flexible phenomenological model for nucleon-to-pion transition distribution amplitudes ($πN$ TDAs), which are used in the QCD collinear factorization description of the scattering amplitudes. Our model is based on the two-component factorized Ansatz for the corresponding spectral densities, quadruple distribution. It takes into account the constraints for $πN$ TDAs arising from the threshold pion production theorem and also includes a forward limit contribution that can be fitted to experimental data. We examine the sensitivity of observable predictions to various modelling assumptions.

Study of deeply virtual Compton scattering at the future Electron-Ion Collider

This study presents the impact of future measurements of deeply virtual Compton scattering (DVCS) with the ePIC detector at the electron-ion collider (EIC), currently under construction at Brookhaven National Laboratory. The considered process is sensitive to generalized parton distributions (GPDs), the understanding of which is a cornerstone of the EIC physics programme. Our study marks a milestone in the preparation of DVCS measurements at EIC and provides a reference point for future analyses. In addition to presenting distributions of basic kinematic variables obtained with the latest ePIC design and simulation software, we examine the impact of future measurements on the understanding of nucleon tomography and DVCS Compton form factors, which are directly linked to GPDs. We also assess the impact of radiative corrections and background contribution arising from exclusive $π^0$ production.

Nucleon tomography and total angular momentum of valence quarks from synergy between lattice QCD and elastic scattering data

We present an exploratory work on integrating lattice-QCD results with experimental data for elastic scattering. Within the framework of generalized parton distributions (GPDs), this approach allows for the extraction of detailed information about nucleon tomography and the total angular momentum carried by valence quarks. To accomplish this reliably, we introduce a new quantity, the "double ratio", which significantly reduces the systematic uncertainties inherent in lattice QCD computations. Moreover, we introduce a "shadow" term in the extraction procedure, which is sensitive only to lattice-QCD results. This term allows us to investigate the model dependence of the extraction, providing a more flexible description of the nucleon that goes beyond the previously considered bell-shaped distribution.

Systematic description of hadron's response to non-local QCD probes: Froissart-Gribov projections in analysis of deeply virtual Compton scattering

We revisit the application of the Froissart-Gribov (FG) projections in the analysis of amplitudes for the Deeply Virtual Compton Scattering (DVCS), providing essential information on generalized parton distributions (GPDs). The pivotal role of these projections in a systematic description of a hadron's response to the string-like QCD probes characterised by different values of angular momentum $J$ is emphasised. For the first time, we establish a relationship between the FG projections and GPDs for spin-$\frac{1}{2}$ targets, and we investigate these quantities in various GPD models. Finally, we provide the first numerical estimates for the FG projections based on the DVCS amplitudes directly extracted from experimental data. We argue the method of the FG projections deserves a broad application in the DVCS phenomenology.

Combining lattice QCD and phenomenological inputs on generalised parton distributions at moderate skewness

We present a systematic study demonstrating the impact of lattice QCD data on the extraction of generalised parton distributions (GPDs). For this purpose, we use a previously developed modelling of GPDs based on machine learning techniques fulfilling the theoretical requirements of polynomiality, a form of positivity constraint and known reduction limits. A special care is given to estimate the uncertainty stemming from the ill-posed character of the connection between GPDs and the experimental processes usually considered to constrain them, like deeply virtual Compton scattering (DVCS). Mock lattice QCD data inputs are included in a Bayesian framework to the prior model which is fitted to reproduce the most experimentally accessible information of a phenomenological model by Goloskov and Kroll. We highlight the impact of the precision, correlation and kinematic coverage of lattice data on GPD extraction at moderate $ξ$ which has only been brushed in the literature so far, paving the way for a joint extraction of GPDs.

The ECFA Early Career Researcher's Panel: composition, structure, and activities, 2021 -- 2022

The European Committee for Future Accelerators (ECFA) Early Career Researcher's (ECR) panel, which represents the interests of the ECR community to ECFA, officially began its activities in January 2021. In the first two years, the panel has defined its own internal structure, responded to ECFA requests for feedback, and launched its own initiatives to better understand and support the diverse interests of early career researchers. This report summarises the panel composition and structure, as well as the different activities the panel has been involved with during the first two years of its existence.

Phenomenology of diphoton photoproduction at next-to-leading order

We develop the analysis of diphoton exclusive photoproduction in the kinematics where a collinear QCD factorization framework applies, namely nearly forward large invariant mass diphoton production. We work at the leading twist level and at the next-to-leading order (NLO) in the strong coupling constant $α_S$. We compare our predictions for cross-sections with Born order calculations for the experimental conditions accessible to JLab experiments and show the interesting sensitivity of our results to various models of generalized parton distributions (GPDs). The NLO corrections are rather large and negative but do not prevent the studied reaction from being a promising tool for the extraction of C-dd GPDs, which do not contribute to either spacelike or timelike deeply virtual Compton scattering amplitudes.

Collinear factorization of diphoton photoproduction at next to leading order

We calculate in the framework of collinear factorization the amplitude for the photoproduction of a near forward large mass diphoton at leading twist and next to leading order (NLO) in $α_s$. We demonstrate the validity of factorization at this order, which was never achieved for such a reaction where the coefficient function describes a $2 \to 3$ hard process. While the Born order amplitude was purely imaginary and only probed the $x=\pm ξ$ cross-over line of generalized parton distributions (GPD) domain, the NLO result contains both a real and an imaginary part and probes the whole domain of definition of quark GPDs. The phenomenology of our results for medium (JLab) and higher energy (EIC) experiments will be developed in a future study.

NLO collinear factorization of large mass diphoton photoproduction amplitude

We calculate large mass diphoton exclusive photoproduction in the framework of collinear QCD factorization at next to leading order in αs and at leading twist. Collinear divergences of the coefficient function are absorbed by the evolution of the generalized parton distributions (GPDs). This result enlarges the existing factorization proofs to 2 -> 3 processes, opening new reactions to a trustable extraction of GPDs.

Results of the 2021 ECFA Early-Career Researcher Survey on Training in Instrumentation

The European Committee for Future Accelerators (ECFA) Early-Career Researchers (ECR) Panel was invited by the ECFA Detector R&D Roadmap conveners to collect feedback from the European ECR community. A working group within the ECFA ECR panel held a Townhall Meeting to get first input, and then designed and broadly circulated a detailed survey to gather feedback from the larger ECR community. A total of 473 responses to this survey were received, providing a useful overview of the experiences of ECRs in instrumentation training and related topics. This report summarises the feedback received, and is intended to serve as an input to the ECFA Detector R&D Roadmap process.

Electron-Ion Collider in China

Lepton scattering is an established ideal tool for studying inner structure of small particles such as nucleons as well as nuclei. As a future high energy nuclear physics project, an Electron-ion collider in China (EicC) has been proposed. It will be constructed based on an upgraded heavy-ion accelerator, High Intensity heavy-ion Accelerator Facility (HIAF) which is currently under construction, together with a new electron ring. The proposed collider will provide highly polarized electrons (with a polarization of $\sim$80%) and protons (with a polarization of $\sim$70%) with variable center of mass energies from 15 to 20 GeV and the luminosity of (2-3) $\times$ 10$^{33}$ cm$^{-2}$ s$^{-1}$. Polarized deuterons and Helium-3, as well as unpolarized ion beams from Carbon to Uranium, will be also available at the EicC. The main foci of the EicC will be precision measurements of the structure of the nucleon in the sea quark region, including 3D tomography of nucleon; the partonic structure of nuclei and the parton interaction with the nuclear environment; the exotic states, especially those with heavy flavor quark contents. In addition, issues fundamental to understanding the origin of mass could be addressed by measurements of heavy quarkonia near-threshold production at the EicC. In order to achieve the above-mentioned physics goals, a hermetical detector system will be constructed with cutting-edge technologies. This document is the result of collective contributions and valuable inputs from experts across the globe. The EicC physics program complements the ongoing scientific programs at the Jefferson Laboratory and the future EIC project in the United States. The success of this project will also advance both nuclear and particle physics as well as accelerator and detector technology in China.
