Sums of Reciprocals of Generalized Triangular Numbers

We compute the sum and the alternating sum of the reciprocals of triangular numbers using two standard methods from calculus: a telescoping series approach and a power series approach. We then extend these results to generalized (higher-order) triangular numbers and derive closed-form expressions for both the non-alternating and alternating series of all orders.

Inductive dimensions of coarse proximity spaces

In this paper, we generalize Dranishnikov's asymptotic inductive dimension to the setting of coarse proximity spaces. We show that in this more general context, the asymptotic inductive dimension of a coarse proximity space is bigger or equal to the inductive dimension of its boundary, and consequently may be strictly bigger than the covering dimension of the boundary. We also give a condition, called complete traceability, on the boundary of the coarse proximity space under which the asymptotic inductive dimension of a coarse proximity space and the inductive dimension of its boundary coincide. Finally, we show that spaces whose boundaries are $Z$-sets and spaces admitting metrizable compactifications have completely traceable boundaries.

Coproducts of proximity spaces

In this paper, we introduce coproducts of proximity spaces. After exploring several of their basic properties, we show that given a collection of proximity spaces, the coproduct of their Smirnov compactifications proximally and densely embeds in the Smirnov compactification of the coproduct of the original proximity spaces. We also show that the dense proximity embedding is a proximity isomorphism if and only if the index set is finite. After constructing a number of examples of coproducts and their Smirnov compactifications, we explore several properties of the Smirnov compactification of the coproduct, including its metrizability, connectedness of the boundary, dimension, and its relation to the Stone-Cech compactification. In particular, we show that the Smirnov compactification of the infinite coproduct is never metrizable and that its boundary is highly disconnected. We also show that the proximity dimension of the Smirnov compactification of the coproduct equals the supremum of the covering dimensions of the individual Smirnov compactifications and that the Smirnov compactification of the coproduct is homeomorphic to the Stone-Cech compactification if and only if each individual proximity space is equipped with the Stone-Cech proximity. We finish with an example of a coproduct with the covering dimension $0$ but the proximity dimension $\infty.$

Boundaries of coarse proximity spaces and boundaries of compactifications

In this paper, we introduce the boundary $\mathcal{U}X$ of a coarse proximity space $(X,\mathcal{B},{\bf b}).$ This boundary is a subset of the boundary of a certain Smirnov compactification. We show that $\mathcal{U}X$ is compact and Hausdorff and that every compactification of a locally compact Hausdorff space induces a coarse proximity structure whose corresponding boundary is the boundary of the compactification. We then show that many boundaries of well-known compactifications arise as boundaries of coarse proximity spaces. In particular, we give four coarse proximity structures whose boundaries are the Gromov, visual, Higson, and Freudenthal boundaries.

Asymptotic dimension of fuzzy metric spaces

In this paper, we define asymptotic dimension of fuzzy metric spaces in the sense of George and Veeramini. We prove that asymptotic dimension is an invariant in the coarse category of fuzzy metric spaces. We also show several consequences of asymptotic dimension in the fuzzy setting which resemble the consequences of asymptotic dimension in the metric setting. We finish with calculating asymptotic dimension of a few fuzzy metric spaces.

Coarse Proximity and Proximity at Infinity

We define coarse proximity structures, which are an analog of small-scale proximity spaces in the large-scale context. We show that metric spaces induce coarse proximity structures, and we construct a natural small-scale proximity structure, called the proximity at infinity, on the set of equivalence classes of unbounded subsets of an unbounded metric space given by the relation of having finite Hausdorff distance. We show that this construction is functorial. Consequently, the proximity isomorphism type of the proximity at infinity of an unbounded metric space $X$ is a coarse invariant of $X$.

Some counterexamples in abstract coarse geometry

We construct an example of a coarse proximity space that is not induced by any coarse structure. We then show how to "stitch" two coarse proximity spaces with homeomorphic boundaries into one coarse proximity space. Finally, we construct a coarse proximity space that is not induced by any asymptotic resemblance structure.

Normality conditions of structures in coarse geometry and an alternative description of coarse proximities

We introduce an alternative description of coarse proximities. We define a coarse normality condition for connected coarse spaces and show that this definition agrees with large scale normality defined in [3] and asymptotic normality defined in [7]. We utilize the alternative definition of coarse proximities to show that a connected coarse space naturally induces a coarse proximity if and only if the connected coarse space is coarsely normal. We conclude with showing that every connected asymptotic resemblance space induces a coarse proximity if and only if the connected asymptotic resemblance space is asymptotically normal.
