We present a counterexample to Viterbo's volume-capacity conjecture. This implies, in particular, that in contrast with a well-known conjecture, symplectic capacities do not coincide on the class of convex domains in the classical phase space.
The symplectic Zoll property of smooth convex domains in the classical phase space has been extensively studied in recent years and, in particular, has been shown to detect local maximizers of the systolic ratio. We propose a dynamical extension of this property to the non-smooth setting, related to the behavior of the Ekeland-Hofer-Zehnder capacity with respect to hyperplane cuts. Under certain hypotheses, we establish its equivalence to a known topological extension of the Zoll property. In this context, we study the space of non-smooth action-minimizing closed characteristics and show that their dynamical behavior is not as irregular as one might first expect. We classify several types of dynamical behaviors and derive a certain $H^1$-compactness result, which is of independent interest.
In this paper we present some quantitative results concerning symplectic barriers. In particular, we answer a question raised by Sackel, Song, Varolgunes, and Zhu regarding the symplectic size of the $2n$-dimensional Euclidean ball with a codimension-two linear subspace removed.
We prove that the minimal area of a holomorphic triangle whose boundary lies on the union of any three Lagrangian submanifolds is bounded from above by the Lagrangian spectral norm of any pair taken out of the three. We show a relation between this result and the median quasi-state on the 2-sphere. The median quasi-state gives rise to a measure of Poisson non-commutativity of any pair of functions. We answer a question of Entov--Polterovich--Zapolsky by giving a sharp upper bound on the ratio between this measure and the uniform norm of the Poisson bracket of the pair. The sharpness of this bound also implies a lower bound on the defect of the Calabi quasi-morphism.
In this note we establish the existence of a new type of rigidity of symplectic embeddings coming from obligatory intersections with symplectic planes. More precisely, we prove that if a Euclidean ball is symplectically embedded in the Euclidean unit ball, then it must intersect a sufficiently fine grid of two-codimensional pairwise disjoint symplectic planes. Inspired by analogous terminology for Lagrangian submanifolds, we refer to these obstructions as symplectic barriers.
Persistence modules and barcodes are used in symplectic topology to define various invariants of Hamiltonian diffeomorphisms, however numerical methods for computing these barcodes are not yet well developed. In this paper we define one such invariant called the generating function barcode of compactly supported Hamiltonian diffeomorphisms of $ \mathbb{R}^{2n} $ by applying Morse theory to generating functions quadratic at infinity associated to such Hamiltonian diffeomorphisms and provide an algorithm (i.e a finite sequence of explicit calculation steps) that approximates it.
We prove the following isoperimetric type inequality: Given a finite absolutely continuous Borel measure on ${\mathbb R}^n$, halfspaces have maximal measure among all subsets with prescribed barycenter. As a consequence, we make progress towards a solution to a problem of Henk and Pollehn, which is equivalent to a Log-Minkowski inequality for a parallelotope and a centered convex body. Our probabilistic approach to the problem also gives rise to several inequalities and conjectures concerning the truncated mean of certain log-concave random variables.
In this note we study the behavior of symplectic capacities of convex domains in the classical phase space with respect to symplectic $p$-products. As an application, by using a "tensor power trick", we show that it is enough to prove the weak version of Viterbo's volume-capacity conjecture in the asymptotic regime, i.e., when the dimension is sent to infinity. In addition, we introduce a conjecture about higher-order capacities of $p$-products, and show that if it holds, then there are no non-trivial $p$-decompositions of the symplectic ball.
In this paper we introduce a combinatorial formula for the Ekeland-Hofer-Zehnder capacity of a convex polytope in $\mathbb{R}^{2n}$. One application of this formula is a certain subadditivity property of this capacity.
