From string breaking to quarkonium spectrum

We present a preliminary computation of potentials between two static quarks in $n_f=2$ QCD with O(a) improved Wilson fermions. We explore different smearing choices (HYP, HYP2 and APE) and their effect on the signal to noise ratio in the computed static potentials. This is a part of a larger effort concerning, at first, a precise computation of the QCD string breaking parameters and their subsequent utilization for the recent approach based on Born-Oppenheimer approximation (Bicudo et al. 2020 \cite{Bicudo:2019ymo}) to study quarkonium resonances and bound states.

Bottomonium resonances with $I = 0$ from lattice QCD correlation functions with static and light quarks

We discuss, how to study $I = 0$ quarkonium resonances decaying into pairs of heavy-light mesons using static potentials from lattice QCD. These static potentials can be obtained from a set of correlation functions containing both static and light quarks. As a proof of concept we focus on bottomonium with relative orbital angular momentum $L = 0$ of the $\bar{b} b$ pair corresponding to $J^{P C} = 0^{- +}$ and $J^{P C} = 1^{- -}$. We use static potentials from an existing lattice QCD string breaking study and compute phase shifts and $\mbox{T}$ matrix poles for the lightest heavy-light meson-meson decay channel. We discuss our results in the context of corresponding experimental results, in particular for $Υ(10860)$ and $Υ(11020)$.

$\bar{b}\bar{b}ud$ tetraquark resonances in the Born-Oppenheimer approximation using lattice QCD potentials

We study tetraquark resonances using lattice QCD potentials for a pair of static antiquarks $\bar{b}\bar{b}$ in the presence of two light quarks $ud$. The system is treated in the Born-Oppenheimer approximation and we use the emergent wave method. We focus on the isospin $I=0$ channel, but consider different orbital angular momenta $l$ of the heavy antiquarks $\bar{b}\bar{b}$. We extract the phase shifts and search for $\mbox{S}$ and $\mbox{T}$ matrix poles on the second Riemann sheet. For orbital angular momentum $l=1$ we find a tetraquark resonance with quantum numbers $I(J^P)=0(1^-)$, resonance mass $m=10576^{+4}_{-4} \, \textrm{MeV}$ and decay width $Γ= 112^{+90}_{-103} \textrm{MeV}$, which can decay into two $B$ mesons.

Colour fields of the quark-antiquark excited flux tube

We present colour field density profiles for some of the first SU(3) gluonic excitations of the flux tube in the presence of a static quark-antiquark pair. The results are obtained from a large set of gluonic operators.

Tetraquark resonances computed with static lattice QCD potentials and scattering theory

We study tetraquark resonances with lattice QCD potentials computed for two static quarks and two dynamical quarks, the Born-Oppenheimer approximation and the emergent wave method of scattering theory. As a proof of concept we focus on systems with isospin $I = 0$, but consider different relative angular momenta $l$ of the heavy $b$ quarks. We compute the phase shifts and search for $\mbox{S}$ and $\mbox{T}$ matrix poles in the second Riemann sheet. We predict a new tetraquark resonance for $l = 1$, decaying into two $B$ mesons, with quantum numbers $I(J^P) = 0(1^-)$, mass $m = 10576_{-4}^{+4} \, \textrm{MeV}$ and decay width $Γ= 112_{-103}^{+90} \, \textrm{MeV}$.

$u d \bar{b} \bar{b}$ tetraquark resonances with lattice QCD potentials and the Born-Oppenheimer approximation

We study tetraquark resonances with lattice QCD potentials computed for a static bbar bbar pair in the presence of two lighter quarks u d, the Born-Oppenheimer approximation and the emergent wave method. As a proof of concept we focus on the system with isospin I = 0, but consider different relative angular momenta l of the heavy quarks bbar bbar. For l=0 a bound state has already been predicted with quantum numbers I(JP) = 0(1+). Exploring various angular momenta we now compute the phase shifts and search for S and T matrix poles in the second Riemann sheet. We predict a tetraquark resonance for l =1, decaying into two B mesons, with quantum numbers I(JP) = 0(1-), mass m = 10 \, 576^{+4}_{-4} MeV} and decay width Gamma = 112^{+90}_{-103} MeV.

Flux tubes at Finite Temperature

In this work, we show the flux tubes of the quark-antiquark and quark-quark at finite temperature for SU(3) Lattice QCD. The chromomagnetic and chromoelectric fields are calculated above and below the phase transition.

Including heavy spin effects in the prediction of a $\bar{b} \bar{b} u d$ tetraquark with lattice QCD potentials

We investigate spin effects in four-quark systems consisting of two heavy anti-bottom quarks and two light up/down quarks. To this end we use the Born-Oppenheimer approximation. We utilize potentials of two static antiquarks in the presence of two quarks of finite mass computed via lattice QCD and solve a coupled-channel Schrödinger equation for the anti-bottom-anti-bottom separation. Without taking heavy quark spins into account this approach predicted a $u d \bar b \bar b$ tetraquark bound state with quantum numbers $I(J^P) = 0(1^+)$. We now extend this Born-Oppenheimer approach with coupled channel Schrödinger equations allowing us to incorporate effects due to the heavy $\bar b$ spins. We confirm the existence of the $u d \bar b \bar b$ tetraquark.

Including heavy spin effects in a lattice QCD study of static-static-light-light tetraquarks

In previous works we predicted the existence of a $\bar b \bar b u d$ tetraquark with quantum numbers $I(J^P) = 0(1^+)$ using the static approximation for the $\bar b$ quarks and neglecting heavy spin effects. Since the binding energy is of the same order as expected for these heavy spin effects, it is essential to include them in the computation. Here we present a corresponding method and show evidence that binding is only slightly weakened and that the $\bar b \bar b u d$ tetraquark persists.

Lattice QCD study of heavy-heavy-light-light tetraquark candidates

We investigate heavy-light four-quark systems $ud\bar b \bar b$ with bottom quarks of finite mass which are treated in the framework of NRQCD. We focus on $I(J^P)=0(1^+)$, where we recently found evidence for the existence of a tetraquark state using static bottom quarks. Furthermore, we report on an investigation of the $u \bar d b \bar b$ four-quark system with quantum numbers $I(J^P)=1(1^+)$ again using static bottom quarks.

Flux tubes at Finite Temperature

We show the flux tubes produced by static quark-antiquark, quark-quark and quark-gluon charges at finite temperature. The sources are placed in the lattice with fundamental and adjoint Polyakov loops. We compute the square densities of the chromomagnetic and chromoelectric fields above and below the phase transition. Our results are gauge invariant and produced in pure gauge SU(3). The codes are written in CUDA and the computations are performed with GPUs.

Mapping chiral symmetry breaking in the excited baryon spectrum

We study the conjectured "Insensitivity to Chiral Symmetry Breaking" in the highly excited light baryon spectrum. While the experimental spectrum is being measured at JLab and CBELSA/TAPS, this insensitivity remains to be computed theoretically in detail. As the only existing option to have both confinement, highly excited states and chiral symmetry, we adopt the truncated Coulomb gauge formulation of QCD, considering a linearly confining Coulomb term. Adopting a systematic and numerically intensive variational treatment up to 12 harmonic oscillator shells we are able to access several angular and radial excitations. We compute both the excited spectra of $I=1/2$ and $I=3/2$ baryons, up to large spin $J=13/2$, and study in detail the proposed chiral multiplets. While the static-light and light-light spectra clearly show chiral symmetry restoration high in the spectrum, the realization of chiral symmetry is more complicated in the baryon spectrum than earlier expected.

Tighter bounds on a hypothetical graviton screening mass from the gravitational wave observation GW150914 at LIGO

While quantum gravity is not solved yet, a screening mass for the graviton remains theoretically possible. If such a mass would screen gravity at distances of the order of the cluster galaxy radius, it could account for the universe expansion. The modified Newtonian dynamics model also could be related to a screening graviton mass at inter-galactic scales. Moreover, massive spin-2 theories constitute a very active theoretical topic. We briefly show how the very recent LIGO gravitational wave observation GW150914, emitted by a binary black hole merger distant $\sim 1.3 \times 10^9$ ly from the Earth, tightens the phenomenological bound on a massive graviton or on the screening of gravity.

Investigation of $B\bar B$ four-quark systems using lattice QCD

We investigate $B \bar B$ systems by computing potentials of two static quarks in the presence of two quarks of finite mass using lattice QCD. By solving the Schrödinger equation we check whether these potentials are sufficiently attractive to host bound states. Particular focus is put on the experimentally most promising bottomonium-like tetraquark candidate $Z_b^\pm$ with quantum numbers $I(J^P)=1(1^+)$.

BB interactions with static bottom quarks from Lattice QCD

The isospin, spin and parity dependent potential of a pair of $B$ mesons is computed using Wilson twisted mass lattice QCD with two flavours of degenerate dynamical quarks. The $B$ meson is addressed in the static-light approximation, i.e.\ the $b$ quarks are infinitely heavy. From the results of the $B\,B$ meson-meson potentials, a simple rule can be deduced stating which isospin, spin and parity combinations correspond to attractive and which to repulsive forces. We provide fits to the ground state potentials in the attractive channels and discuss the potentials in the repulsive and excited channels. The attractive channels are most important since they can possibly lead to a bound four-quark state, i.e.\ a $\bar{b}\bar{b}ud$ tetraquark. Using these attractive potentials in the Schrödinger equation, we find indication for such a tetraquark state of two static bottom antiquarks and two light $u/d$ quarks with mass extrapolated down to the physical value.

Gauge fixing and the gluon propagator in renormalizable xi gauges

Covariant $R_ξ$ gauge fixing is notoriously difficult for large lattice volumes, large $ξ$ and small $N_c$. We thoroughly test different convergence techniques, which allows the gauge fixing of lattice configurations with a total volume of (3.25 fm)$^4$, up to $ξ=0.5$. We are able to study the gluon propagator in the infrared region and its dependence on the gauge fixing parameter $ξ$. As expected, the longitudinal gluon dressing functions stay constant at their tree-level value $ξ$. Similar to the Landau gauge, the transverse $R_ξ$ gauge gluon propagators saturate at a non-vanishing value in the deep infrared for all values of $ξ$ studied. We compare with very recent continuum studies and perform a simple analysis of the found saturation with a dynamically generated effective gluon mass.

Exploring possibly existing $q q \bar b \bar b$ tetraquark states with $q q = ud, ss, cc$

We compute potentials of two static antiquarks in the presence of two quarks $qq$ of finite mass using lattice QCD. In a second step we solve the Schrödinger equation, to determine, whether the resulting potentials are sufficiently attractive to host a bound state, which would indicate the existence of a stable $q q \bar b \bar b$ tetraquark. We find a bound state for $qq=(ud-du)/\sqrt{2}$ with corresponding quantum numbers $I(J^ P)=0(1^+)$ and evidence against the existence of bound states with isospin $I=1$ or $qq \in \{cc,ss \}$
